Yeah I was about to say these people spent a lifetime using immigrant labor. They probably still get kicks out of having someone beneath them wipe their asses

Graphy ,

I can’t think of a single thing that I’d describe as a freedom I’m missing out on being married.

Graphy ,

Eh prom was the last time I saw a bunch of people I was fond of. Granted I graduated before Facebook was a thing but I bet everyone these days says “we’ll stay in touch” but never does.

Prom shouldn’t be important but I hope people have fun memories

Graphy ,

Same with my Filipino dad who as a chef used hundreds of Mexican workers. When I was in grade school living in south Florida all the Brazilian kids would call all the other South American kids Mexicans.

I like how the kid cops and judges are corrupt. The only inaccurate part was the competent public defender.

If you try to watch them on the mutualofomaha site they’re sadly heavily edited and complete shit. The videos on that site edit the original episodes from the 60s and repackaged them with a new host.

Was able to find full length videos on internet archives. The episode from this clip is called Land of the Quaking Earth.

Hong Kong

I just expected like a flat New York “too tame to be fun” city but was met with mountains, beaches, and so many bizarre but charming events.

Not that I don’t like New York but it has changed a lot. I don’t want to say it lost its personality but I feel like a lot of big cities have become idk.. commercialized?

The food in Hong Kong was pretty disappointing tho or maybe I built it up too much in my head. I went to so many restaurants that were recommended to me by either locals or expats and they were all so bland. Which is wild because I didn’t have to go far across the border into China to find amazing dishes.

Idk you ever hold a tiny beetle and get to feel how oddly strong and grippy their legs are?

I just picture a giant beetle mask

It's been around a year since a lot of us quit Reddit, myself included. I'm happy with Lemmy, but I still feel a bit lost online since leaving the old site. Discussion?

Been thinking of making a post like this for some time, apologies if some of this is not completely relevant: this community seems more like it's about Reddit the platform/product than Reddit the social "thing", but I'm sure a lot of people have similar experiences to mine. Maybe on some instances more than others....

Graphy ,

I do feel like a lot of people here are on guard and that doesn’t make for the best vibes.

My wife was asking me the other day how my “shitty Reddit” was doing. I told her it was like someone rounded up all the little twerps that require you to add fine print to everything you say on Reddit.

Also if you post more casual things to a specific sub then you’re almost guaranteed to get downvotes from people just browsing the ‘all’ feed. Like who gives a shit about downvotes but it does make it harder to gauge if they’re from people in the community not interested or just randos.

As a joke I was looking for general everyday items they might’ve sold but now I feel like I’m on a new list.

I did find cool Hawaiian satellite shirts that I kinda want now

I really liked the first Moana but I can’t think of any story worth telling for a sequel.

I like to use my impact driver to really dig in those fasteners. The crunching sound means it’s not going anywhere

My hobby project car right now is a “lesbian wagon” for my niece

Naturally as it’s a JS Subaru the bushings are shot

Subaru had a fun campaign targeting lesbians in the 90s after they noticed that lesbians were driving their cars.

Just drop a can of Pringles on that bad boy

I can’t imagine tackling someone for stealing from a tj maxx.

“Stop him! he’s getting away with a bag of stale snacks, a cracked pink salt lamp, and some scratched nonstick pans!”

Graphy ,

I’ve got two labs and our roomba does a pretty good job.

I did end up buying two though because if you try to bring one upstairs and manually empty it then it starts bugging out if the base is on a different floor.

Graphy ,

I’ve recently test driven far too many cars before pulling the trigger on my midlife crisis car.

The amount of new cars with shit tablets you won’t be able to easily replace in the future is astounding. You should’ve seen my face when I borrowed my neighbors Tesla and it didn’t even have CarPlay. I was just picturing myself sawing a hole in the dash to fit a double din.

Graphy ,

I’ve settled on a 718 cayman but all the dealers I’ve called/met basically put me on a waiting list but said don’t get my hopes up on an allocation. So now I’m just looking for a used GTS that’s not extortion pricing.

I love Miata’s! I used to hang out with a couple guys who did meetups next to where I live at “Tail of the Dragon”

While attempting to stack another brick around the assembly, Daghlian accidentally dropped it onto the core and thereby caused the core to go well into supercriticality, a self-sustaining critical chain reaction. He quickly moved the brick off the assembly, but received a fatal dose of radiation. He died 25 days later from acute [radiation poisoning].

Holy shit and I’m still scared to drop shit into a pot of oil

Graphy ,

Just kinda stand there and daydream

Recently installed a tankless electric system so I sadly no longer get kicked out for running out of hot water lol

Graphy ,

That and even if I agree with a lot of the posts you’ll notice that they’re posted by the same people at a very alarming rate. I’ve ran through and blocked anyone who posts the same topic every 6 minutes. Since then my feed has been less monotonous and slightly more authentic.

Graphy ,

Just remember that starting a new project is always the fun part. Think we’ve all got a mountain of unfinished projects that we’ve been meaning to return to.

Graphy , (edited )

As a country fan you don’t really expect much from modern country singers so sturgill Simpson might be a good pick.

I remember a while back he was snubbed from the CMAs so he busked outside of the event and called trump a “fascist fucking pig” while taking donations for the ACLU.

Dawg like a year ago I came back into the office for the first time since Covid and all the 20 year olds had somewhere between pedo stashes and handlebars. Zoomers crack me up they’re great

How do I not stop feeling like I am doing nothing outside work?

I am professionally a software developer for 8 years and I simply don't have ideas for personal projects (Can't find any problem that I can fix with programming). At times I feel like that's natural and I shouldn't worry about it. But on the other hand, I do like to imagine having something personal that I can work on so that...

Graphy ,

I should probably say that I’m more of a product manager these days so I don’t think I feel quite the pressure you feel to have an impressive git backlog but at one point I did feel that way

I’ll get asked by fresh college grads all the time what I’m working on at home and It’ll take me a second to realize what they’re talking about bc I haven’t worked on a real non-work related project at home in years

If anything I’ll get new devs who I’ll invite to lunch and they’ll be nervous so I try to break the ice by asking what have they been up to or what their hobbies are. They’ll start speed running through their list of pretty obviously pointless github projects that remind me of the fluff ones I did when I first started. It’s adorable

The only personal projects that ever get my attention are the ones that the person describing them is obviously passionate about. You’ll see them grinning ear to ear when telling you how many hours it took to fix a bug.

This is a very ranty way of saying that you shouldn’t stress about projects at home. I was told early on that social skills carry you further than technical skills which is probably bullshit but I was never going to be an amazing coder so let me have this one

Graphy ,

I just picture Tom Knapp casually tossing his Benelli into the air then catching it and turning ten drones into orange dust.

Graphy OP ,

Anyone know what year this came out?

Graphy ,

I feel like your YT algo and mine look exactly the same, ProdigalFrog. Which funny enough makes it a pain to post on here bc I’m
Like “now I’m just stealing something PF would’ve posted”.

Graphy ,

I equally find Steven Mould insightful and creepy. I can’t quite describe why tho I’m sure he’s a fine dude.

Graphy ,

Speaking of obstructing your sight, I’ve been test driving a lot bc I’m looking for my midlife crisis car rn. I’ve never had a shorter car before and I’m looking at maybe a Porsche rn which sits low.

The amount of bushes placed where you need to see oncoming traffic is stupid. Also all the blackout tinted windows that keep you from seeing traffic in front. I’m second guessing owning a shorter car

Graphy , (edited )

Hah what a crock of biased shit
take one look at this photo and tell me it’s for safety and not so this strip mall can look slightly less shitty

This photo doesn’t even really stress how bad it gets right now in the spring because anywhere with sand/rocks will be a thick bush. Even in the photo the gray car in the middle is cutting into both lanes so a guy making a right has a bush and that to look forward to. If you decide to go north and take a left to get out then you’ve gotta dodge oncoming traffic and pedestrians leaving a busy store.

You should always take it slow and crawl out of a blind corner but obstacles make it harder for no reason. In this lot if you crawl out enough to see left and right half of your car is already in the oncoming lane and you’ve crashed.

Porsche etc drivers are the ones specifically where that is often a necessity due to how difficult theircars can be to spot.

Lmao so let’s throw bushes everywhere so people and cars can’t see, gotcha. Jfc people

That same hamster now spends most its time not being picked in overwatch.

Yeah I’m always glad that certain communities are thriving on here but they tend to bleed over into every single thread.

I find it most annoying when someone’s just casually venting and someone else comes in swinging. I get that it’s especially hard on the internet to tell if someone’s venting or looking for solutions.

Like at this point I think it’s safe to say everyone on Lemmy has seen the same pro Linux, fuck cars, and fuck capitalism posts a million times. I think we do without one post dogpiling on some poor dude if they’re like “man traffic sucked the big one today!”

That’s me playing polybridge.

“Well I think triangles are strong and don’t really know any other shapes so…”

My wife works for the NPS and her old coworker invited us to help out with their eclipse event in Ohio. Apparently they’re already prepping to close all the parking lots and are real worried they won’t have enough rangers.

House Republicans had a bad day: Most of them voted against a sweeping funding bill. One threatened to overthrow Speaker Johnson. Another Republican resigned early. And Santos caused turmoil in N.Y. ( www.nbcnews.com )

Friday began with House conservatives holding a press conference to trash the $1.2 trillion spending bill their leaders negotiated with Democrats, sparking some fears about its prospects. ...

Graphy ,

Side rant but one of my Comp Sci professors was a house member and he was gone for a few weeks out of a semester.

I hated him because he required us to still go to class just to have his TA hand out some shitty worksheet.

When he was there he was also a shitty professor

Are we all fucked?

I'm worried for the world. All I've been thinking about is WW3 and this shit makes me want to vomit. I can't even smoke weed anymore without having a near panic attack. I feel unmotivated. I wake up and immediately just want to go back to bed. I'm not trying to spread fear but the Doomsday clock is 90 seconds till midnight,...

Graphy ,

You couldn’t get 75% of people to agree that water’s wet, so have fun with that

Graphy ,

Lol I don’t think that link makes anyone more optimistic.

Policies had wide-ranging support, with the most popular being conserving forests and land (54% public support), more solar, wind and renewable power (53%), adopting climate-friendly farming techniques (52%) and investing more in green businesses and jobs (50%).

When you start breaking it down by actual ways to stop climate change and the highest yes vote they can get is 54%? And that’s a 54% for something I thought wouldn’t even be controversial.

I’m just saying it’s ok for someone to take a step back from the news if it’s gonna cause them to stress out. There’s not a whole lot people can actually do in their day to day and I don’t think fighting on a forum with ten people is helping anyone

Graphy ,

Something tells me the “fuck the rainforest” group and the “go windmills” group might not be the same group lmao

Im sorry I forgot jokes weren’t allowed or you’re just being thick because it’s the internet and that’s what people do on it.

I’m guessing that there’s not that much overlap between a group that’d vote against conservation of forests while voting for a pivot to renewables.

So it seems like you're just making shit up to justify telling people to ignore climate change.

lol I think you’ve already forgotten the assignment

Graphy OP ,

Idk why but to me the most surprising part of this video was him dropping 7k on a candy roller.

Jfc he also bought a candy coater/tumbler looking thing
