Sometimes it works the other way. We cannot get our teenage daughter to eat anything but junk food half the time and yet she's far thinner than either of us were as teenagers. Neither of us can understand it.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

No, she also shovels it down as most teenagers do.

I wouldn't anger Count Vigo of Carpathia like that. Remember what happened the last time?

OTOH, someone who posts several anti-Trump (or anti-Biden) articles every day is likely digging down to some questionable sites to find the content.

That's exactly what was happening and why this rule had to be implemented.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Is that show still on? I sort of forgot about it.

FlyingSquid ,

It helps people who skim notice the important parts of a post.

I'm not gay, but I do wish I was more fabulous.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You haven't seen me with glitter in my hair. Everyone is disappointed.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You can most certainly put glitter on a bald pate. It sticks more easily. And what is the point of non-fabulous hair?

I'm just saying I could learn a lesson or two from people behind the scenes at a drag show.

Here's the question- was it a trial run for Trump in the debate with Biden? Let this guy do it, see how it plays with the MAGA types, then plan on Trump doing the same thing.

I'm not trying to sound conspiratorial, this would be a pretty standard political move.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you, but the problem is I can't read those words. What are they with a Latin alphabet without translation? Google Translate translates the words into English.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you, that's what I was hoping for!

Also, definitely Gorky. He's the most famous.

Damn, Fetterman. What happened? You used to be cool.

The PBS show Frontier House disabused me of any notion that it would be anything but insanely difficult to survive after societal collapse. Three families had to live as if they were in the 19th century in a valley in (I think) Montana over a summer to prepare for winter.

None of them would have done it. Not even the couple who busted their ass and wouldn't have had children to feed.

I don't think I will ever stop being astounded that it was revealed that the Brexit campaign was a big fraud and the British government just said, "oh well, too bad."

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

At the very least, Labour should have run on a ticket saying that people were led on and Brexit would not happen without another vote, but they basically said that the people had spoken as well.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

When it's revealed there was fraud behind the original vote?

From the end of the article:

Reading too much into the language seems, at this point, to be less of a danger than reading too little into it.

So the answer to "why it matters" in the headline is that it doesn't and I wasted my fucking time reading it.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Because U.S. prison guards and the IDF aren't already declared to be terrorist groups.

Letting us know that bad people say bad things is not news.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It looks like it's getting the reception it's getting because, as @Cheradenine said, it's two weeks old and it's already been rebutted.

I realize rule 1 says within 30 days, but this sort of thing is a story that can change from one day to the next.

Very few people think Hamas are good. They just know, like I do, that Israel is not at war with Hamas. Not really. They're at war with all of Gaza. They don't care whether you're a member of Hamas or not. They don't care if you're a baby or you're 99 years old. And don't give me the "Hamas hides amongst them" bullshit. That in no way justifies the thousands of dead children.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

If you agree, what does it matter that Hamas says bad things?

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

And, again, I don't see the relevance of this information. It changes nothing as far as I can tell.

Yeah, well, not every country can have a dictator that holds mock elections.

Chinese military harassed Dutch warship enforcing UN sanctions on North Korea, Netherlands says ( www.cnn.com )

A Dutch warship was harassed by Chinese military aircraft in the East China Sea on Friday, the Netherlands said, becoming the latest country to accuse Beijing’s forces of initiating potentially unsafe encounters in international waters....

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Don't fuck with the Dutch, China. They'll get all colonize the spice islands on your ass. (No offense to the indigenous islanders.)

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It was not immediately clear what type of munition was used in the attack, including whether or not it had been a Western weapon.

This is the perfect example of reporting before the fog of war has cleared. Whether or not it was a Western weapon would have been useful information if they had just waited for either clarification or to be told there would be no clarification.

So by "Democrats," you mean "members of the Democratic party who have been elected in their districts or states, not necessarily because all of the Democrats in that state wanted them to run," and not "registered Democrats," which is what this is about.

Or are you under the bizarre impression that America is a direct democracy?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Do you think you would pay any less in tax if there was no library?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

a rate of 0.4119 mills

I would suggest that the tax cut in that case is so negligible as to be essentially nonexistent from a taxpayer's perspective.

No right wing wave in Finland as Left Alliance take record result in EU elections ( yle.fi )

Finland's results in the European election bucked a continent-wide trend of rising support for parties on the outer fringe of right-wing politics, with the Left Alliance and the National Coalition winning big at the expense of the nationalist Finns Party....

I just looked at the temperatures and honestly, it doesn't get much colder than it gets here in Indiana and it doesn't get as horribly hot either.

Besides, give it 10 years and climate change will make the Baltic coast feel like the French Riviera.

I just remembered that my dad said that about the same trip. That he was able to get around the city because pretty much everyone spoke English, so they could just help him out. The signage was the issue for him.

This was back in 1989 and, just by coincidence, this morning I found a postcard he sent me from Leningrad, because he got permission to take the train there from Helsinki. He wrote that he hoped one day I would learn about Peter the Great and visit the beautiful city he founded. Always the professor. Zero for two, unfortunately. I know basically nothing about Peter the Great and, even though the name St. Petersburg/Petrograd should be a clue, I didn't even know he founded it.

One of my grandmothers' surname was the name of a city in a country that no one in that family came from as far back as we can trace.

All we can think is that, over the centuries of European conquest, that country conquered the country they lived in and gave my ancestor that surname.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You want to know what's really bad? He said that in 2016 and he was still elected.

As someone who owns a dog that is way too good at killing moles (and bringing them through the dog door as a trophy), after a while, there are no more moles around to kill.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

That sure sounds like the spez we all know, doesn't it?

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Fair enough. I guess up to now, it seemed to me like people were implying that this was a conscious bias.

FlyingSquid Mod ,

I expect you to understand that you contradicted your own point with your own link that you clearly didn't read.

And now you are linking to some food blog about what insects people eat rather than anything scientific as if it means something.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

If you didn't read it, it's weird that you thought it supported your point when it actually did the exact opposite.

So you were purposefully undermining yourself?
