Weren't you banned for posting negative articles about Biden?

I got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against

Donald Trump

I’ve said this and I say it openly and not a lot of people dispute it: I’ve done more for Black Americans than anybody with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln. Nobody has even been close.

You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?

Mysterious ‘Dark Fungi’ Are Lurking Everywhere ( www.scientificamerican.com )

The land, water and air around us are chock-full of DNA fragments from fungi that mycologists can’t link to known organisms. These slippery beings are so widespread scientists are calling them “dark fungi.” It’s a comparison to the equally elusive dark matter and dark energy that permeates the universe.

They listen to way too much Bauhaus while lurking.

Thomas is clearly insane.

I disagree. He's sane. He's just corrupt.

I watched Fury Road and Furiosa back to back and I noticed something interesting. (Spoilers inside, obviously.)

It seems to me that George Miller agrees with the fan belief that the Mad Max films are a series of tales rather than a chronology or anything like that, because there are some huge discontinuities, and I am fairly sure that is intentional. You may dispute this, but you will have to come up with some convoluted explanations for...

FlyingSquid OP ,

She didn't have to be there for the tree to grow. And we don't even know if that happened because even the history man said it was just one story.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Furiosa was also retold by the History Man, but he was pretty old, so he must have retold it not that long after it happened, and he was with Furiosa starting at the point that she was taken by Dementus.

I guess that would make Furiosa possibly more accurate than either Road Warrior or Fury Road. Especially since the History Man isn't even in Fury Road, which implies it was retold after he died.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It's in the movie. At the very end:

Narrator: And so began the journey north to safety, to our place in the sun. Among us we found a new leader - the man who came from the sky... the Gyro-Captain. And just as Pappagallo had planned, we traveled far beyond the reach of men on machines. The juice, the precious juice, was hidden in the vehicles.

[camera on Feral Kid]

Narrator: As for me, I grew to manhood, and in the fullness of time, I became the leader... the Chief of the Great Northern Tribe.

[camera on Max, pulling away from him]

Narrator: And the Road Warrior? That was the last we ever saw of him. He lives now... only in my memories.

The government is so fucking stupid sometimes. I think both ideas are bad, but a kill switch would be so much better strategically than selling it to a third party who could just send the data to China anyway and still be influenced by CCP demands.

At least some African Christian nations have sense. Not you though, Uganda.

FlyingSquid Mod ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Seriously? Aside from heading an organization responsible for 2000 years of overall misery, we can talk about some of the recent stuff:

  • Continuing to cover up for and defend pedophile clergy.

  • Not demanding that diocese pay the money they are told to pay in court over pedophile cases rather than challenge it.

  • Saying that victims should report to the church, not the police.

  • Telling people in HIV-ridden areas of Africa that condoms are sinful.

  • Catholic hospitals which refuse to perform abortions, even in emergencies where the woman will die.

  • Sitting on a golden throne in a magnificent palace full of priceless artwork while millions of his faithful starve.

I can keep going...

A Catholic friend of mine once told me that while it's good that there has been more of a focus on sexual abuse from Catholics, there was also incredibly harsh corporal punishment when he was in Catholic school. Also very damaging to children. And I am guessing that at least some of those unmarked graves in the Catholic "residential schools" for indigenous peoples were children who were beaten to death.

Disney told L.A. residents to move to Florida for a planned campus. They did, it was canceled and now they're suing ( www.latimes.com )

Walt Disney Co. continues to face fallout from its scuttled plans to move 2,000 California employees to a proposed Florida campus — a controversial decision the company reversed last year following the return of Chief Executive Bob Iger....

Don't they know what Disney expects of them? Did they not see the employee training video?

I was being facetious. Yes, it's from a WWII called Der Fuherer's Face and the whole thing is a dream.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

That is what I was hoping to hear.

And I still say doing a stunt that even makes it look like you've done some real damage to Stonehenge right in the middle of a religious festival does not make you look like the good guys. People in another thread said it spread awareness. Who isn't aware? I'm fully aware of climate change and there's fuck all I can do about it.

But at least it was not permanent vandalism.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Denial is not lack of awareness.

I don't know exactly how I would spread awareness, but I know exactly how I wouldn't: Making people think I damaged a beloved ancient monument during a religious festival... a religious festival, as someone else pointed out, for people who venerate nature.

How about, as an idea, paint bombing Shell Oil headquarters?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Cool. When are you going to get on that? Or are you expecting others to kill on your behalf?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

So you asked me for a solution, came up with a different solution, and now you expect me to implement the one that you came up with?

Because that is not a rational train of thought. I hope you realize that.

FlyingSquid , (edited )
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I was not expecting you to do anything.

Your words:

Like everyone else, I’ll follow you.

You literally told everyone else to follow me into the murder spree when I asked why you haven't started it.

What a silly lie.

And, again, I said at the beginning that I didn't know what the solution was, just that this was not a good one. I just came up with something on the fly because you asked.

Have you ever pissed someone off into getting your way? Have you ever heard of anyone pissing people off into getting their way? I haven't. Which is why I said this was a bad idea.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, you tell me exactly what I'm supposed to do.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, now what can I do when I'm so sick that I have to rest for hours after walking the dogs for 30 minutes?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

So you're saying don't look like you're vandalizing an ancient monument during a religious festival held by nature worshipers? I agree and that was my point.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I was paying attention. That doesn't mean I don't wait for experts to say that it really isn't permanent.

Unless you are assuming the environmental protesters were geologists and familiar with whether or not things like getting into cracks would make a difference at Stonehenge. I don't see a reason to make such an assumption.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

As I said to someone else, the amount of labor I can do right now is about 30 minutes of walking every few hours.

But I'm not sure why I have to do anything to point out that pissing people off is not likely to get people on your side.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You're right, I will disparage people who think that the way to help is to piss people off.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Ok, now please explain, since no one else will, why pissing people off is a good way to achieve that.

Have you ever convinced anyone of something by pissing them off?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Am I not allowed to be concerned about both climate change and an important ancient monument? Are you not able to be concerned about more than one thing at a time?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Why would the oil industry give a shit if people paint stonehenge?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

How do you know what I'm more angry about?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

That's a little different from disrespecting a religious festival, isn't it?

FlyingSquid , (edited )
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I've been saying that for a while. Not only does this open up many trans women to additional harassment, it also opens it up to any cis woman someone decides looks too masculine to be a "real" woman.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don't know that I would say that normalizing heterosexual behavior when it shouldn't be normalized is homophobia. Misguided, bad science, poor bias, I would say any of that. But I don't think you can credibly say that all of those scientists who just aren't noticing homosexual mating practices are bigots.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Where does the Bible describe an asexual heaven? Do you mean because Revelation says the only people who get to go to heaven are a small number of men?

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

If it were somehow magically possible to force people to use turn signals but only when they turn at intersections or change lanes, I think it would, in fact, make the world a better place. Because it would mean less car crashes.

But it's not possible, which is why it's a dumb idea.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I enjoy some Westerns, but the more we actually think about that era, the worse it gets. Apart from the West being relatively open to ex-slaves, it was still full of bigoted Confederate soldiers and people who had no qualms about killing "Redskins." On top of that, the whole idea of people ready to shoot each other over a card game has been supplanted by much worse real-life insanity.

The only movie I can think of that shows how crazy the whole "everyone wants to shoot each other over the slightest thing" Western concept was a movie called The Gunfighter with Gregory Peck. (The irony in the title is intentional.)

It's available on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-XwuC-44JY

Since your point was unrelated to mine, the only thing I don't understand is why you replied to me about it.
