Screengrab from Reddit. The post shows a blue Ford Mustang convertible with the word "GOOF" sprayed on the side. OP has posted the following; "From B.C., Canada. So some asshole sprayed my car and now I gotta take it in to a shop to get it fixed. Insurance is covering it and I only have to pay a $300 deductible. The car is 30 years old and the original paint is “fragile” and old with quite a few chips. Do you think they will be able to get this off without damaging the original paint, or am I in for a new paint job? Thoughts?" I have replied with "COCK PISS PARTRIDGE", in reference to the Alan Partridge episode where that was sprayed on his Rover 800. My comment has since been deleted. By nazis.

    I was 13 during the stupid Blur v Oasis nonsense that the papers cooked up, but being 13 meant that I chose a tribe, and Oasis were my tribe. I think because they came across as more dangerous, more rock n’ roll.

    But the nostalgia smash I get from the opening bars of End of a Century confirms my later realisation that I chose wrong.

    Every now and then, while trying to help some of the guys at work with tech issues, I’m reminded that what I consider to be very basic computer literacy is very much not.

    Like, I’ve just had to explain to one guy that Chrome is a browser on his phone, and that’s how he should access the company’s HR portal. He’s in his 50s.

    At least half of the people here don’t know how to save a website to their home screen.

    It’s really eye opening.

    We have a very, very basic HR portal website that doesn’t need a username, just a password. This is used for accident reporting and holiday booking.

    It’s amazing how many people don’t/can’t use it because they “can’t log in”.

    We’ve had it for a good five years. I set my password on day one, saved it in my Keychain, and have logged in 100% of the time since. I’ve literally never had a problem accessing it.

    I’ve just had to show one guy (who’s the same age as I am) how to reset his password and save the page to his home screen.

    In my mind this is really basic shit. There shouldn’t be anything complicated about this in the slightest.

    But there is, and it serves as a good reminder that what I might think is good and efficient might be a barrier to someone else.

    I guess it gives me another view on the “Just use Linux” crowd.

    Many of the people I work with don’t seem to realise that Android and iOS are two completely different operating systems; do you think they’re going to jump through the hoops of installing Ubuntu instead of just using whatever their computer already has?

    It’s also just hit me like a ton of bricks that the resistance I got to rolling out pre-use check QR codes on the machinery at work wasn’t (necessarily) because people were being obstinate in not wanting to use their own phones, but because they just didn’t know how they worked.

    I put these weird looking squares on things and expected people to already know how to operate them.

    Morning everyone. Not a particularly happy morning for me. Apart from feeling rubbish and oh so tired, I have this year's bullshit appraisal meeting at ten.

    I used to get very anxious about these, but now they just annoy the hell out of me. It's meaningless; I have to pretend that I've developed professionally and plan to make significant career progress in the next twelve months, when there's no possibility for either (and I've spent all my time dealing with data problems).

    At least the senior colleague who's doing the appraisal knows that this is the case.

    I suppose I rolled my eyes a bit because I’m grumpy and tired today. Also, I’m a Certified Fat Lad with my own personal issues around food and bingeing, but can’t imagine seeing a mention of good soup causing any particular distress.

    But yeah, each CW ultimately comes from a place of compassion.

    I know it's a bit gauche to talk of money, but our council tax bill has just come in and it's a little shy of three grand. The roads around here are riddled with potholes, the rubbish collection guys are more like 'throw rubbish all over the place' guys, the local libraries no longer exist (both ones near me have been closed) and services (police etc) have all publicly had their funding slashed. So what are we paying such a high premium for?

    What’s funny about getting unsolicited dietary advice from thin people is how, if I ignore them, or tell them to go fuck themselves, then that just reinforces in their mind what a disgusting, self-pitying mess I am.

    And if I gratefully accept their advice they’ll continue to think they’re better than me.

    Either way, they come away feeling superior.

    Been reading a thread about Britain’s ‘obesity epidemic’, and it’s amazing how many thin people know how to fix it.

    People clamber over themselves to wax lyrical about how we should encourage more exercise (we should), and how fast food joints should be held to account (they should), but the loudest voices never talk about it being a mental health issue.

    I’m a fat fuck, I know I should exercise more and eat better. I did that for a year once and lost 30kg. Then I put it all back on again.

    I know exactly how to lose weight, but it’s really. fucking. hard. Like, the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do. You have to spend months or years depriving yourself of the things that you’ve learned bring you a shard of happiness.

    But say you manage that and you lose loads of weight and everyone is complementing you on how good you look. Then what?

    Then you have to spend every waking moment being aware of the things you just can’t have, because you can’t be trusted.
