Just seen a post with a content warning because it contained a mention of food.

I have opinions, but it would be uncharitable to share them.

@DJDarren This is a complicated and delicate issue.

There are people here with eating disorders, for whom being unexpectedly exposed to food pictures and discussion is very problematic.

There are also people here with eating disorders, for whom seeing food behind a CW gives the impression that food is itself the problem, and this too is harmful.

There's no right answer here. The option I lean towards, after discussing this a lot with people who are affected in both ways, is to use a food hashtag that makes it easy to mute or ignore. But that too is not a perfect answer.

Folk are just trying their best to be as considerate as possible, and there are various different ways to approach this.

@RolloTreadway @intheseheels @matt Yeah, I get that it’s a tricky one, I really do.

I suppose I rolled my eyes a bit because I’m grumpy and tired today. Also, I’m a Certified Fat Lad with my own personal issues around food and bingeing, but can’t imagine seeing a mention of good soup causing any particular distress.

But yeah, each CW ultimately comes from a place of compassion.
