Morning everyone. Not a particularly happy morning for me. Apart from feeling rubbish and oh so tired, I have this year's bullshit appraisal meeting at ten.
I used to get very anxious about these, but now they just annoy the hell out of me. It's meaningless; I have to pretend that I've developed professionally and plan to make significant career progress in the next twelve months, when there's no possibility for either (and I've spent all my time dealing with data problems).
At least the senior colleague who's doing the appraisal knows that this is the case.
@RolloTreadway Morning. You have all my sympathies for today. Appraisals are such pointless things, especially when you've been in the same job for a long time.
We now have "let's talk" chats about our work over the past year, and at my most recent one I basically told my line manager that I think they're bullshit and I don't think about my work in terms of objectives and achievements, and she actually heard me.
Roll on 11am, when you can get on with proper stuff, not bullshit appraisals.
@sheepnik 11am could unfortunately be a transition straight over into a team meeting! It's not clear yet whether that's going ahead though, hopefully not.
You know, I wouldn't mind having an appraisal so much if I believed any good could come of it. I certainly see why they exist for our paramedics. But for people like me, it's all about 'progression' that exists exclusively in the imagination of our board.
How are you doing today? Back to work as well, I presume?
@RolloTreadway I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that your team meeting doesn't go ahead. That sounds like the perfect recipe for a write off of a day.
Apart from being confused about what day it is, I'm doing ok today, thank you. We get an extra day off with this bank holiday, (supposedly in honour of the monarch's birthday), so I'm not working today. It's pissing it down and it's half term, so I'm not going anywhere or have any great plans. Try and finish a chicken is my only goal.
@RolloTreadway Just remember; You’re still getting paid.
That little adage has run through my mind an awful lot these past few years, when thigns have felt shitty at work. I know there’s more to working than that, but sometimes you have to remind yourself.
@DJDarren True. Hard to think about that right now, mind you, without also thinking about how I should be getting paid more, but the Government refused to do any work towards the new pay deal that was due to start last month.
@RolloTreadway I know right!!!??? And yes, maybe there are people who see their current position as a starting point and they want to acquire skills to move on to something else, but I haven't even gotten completely comfortable in my role and I just wanna do my work in peace!
