Fun fact: what that audio guy was describing is called "room tone" and correct it's used for both patching and as a base sitting under all the other audio elements for the mix (music, dialogue, sound FX) and is a common practice after a on location shoot is wrapped to have the whole set "hold for tone".

The reasoning being it captures the 3D soundscape of the ambient noise in the space and how those noises bounce off surfaces and people that our ears definitely notice when it's missing like your post says! The reverb of a small office room and a gym would have very different room tones for example. And an absolute void in audio is extremely distressing and it's why you almost never have absolute 0dB in a sound mix unless intentional.

Cheaper isn't always better. NASA programs like LM's SLS don't get to fail on live TV or they lose their budget, so they're over engineered and built slowly which leads to higher costs. But SLS also hasn't failed on any launch, unlike SpaceX programs.

Don't get me wrong, I want all space projects to succeed. But it's disingenuous to say people can't be critical of SpaceX because of "being brainwashed". They have a somewhat reckless deployment method for the space industry with dubious reliability.

Honestly that's probably me. But not what you think. In the process for long-term self sponsor visa to France rn. I made the decision in July 2022. Lived there a while to test it and now am in process to make perm. I'll still vote absentee if possible.

I don't really see any reason to be here anymore though. The experiment has failed and I no longer have any desire to try to protect it like generations of my family who moved here for equality of life and better economic opportunities. So, like them I'm moving, to a place that has the baseline of treating 52% of its population as humans and opportunities for my profession. There's plenty wrong there too, but the way I look at it, might as well have good wine while watching everything burn.

As an F1 fan, I absolutely love NASCAR road courses! They're always super interesting, and it's pretty impressive the engineers can package for them and how the drivers handle getting those big boys around turns.

Hey I grew up everyday seeing this painting in my parent's livingroom! They saw it in Paris back in the day and bought a reproduction from a painter there. I feel like a lot of paintings were "boring" to kids but not impressionists, even at like 6 years old I was quite blown away by Monet's wild brush strokes up close they looked like waves!

I've since seen the original with my parents as well as a lot of impressionists over the years. They're quite lovely to see in person. Degas is my favorite.

What lunches do you eat on a weekly basis?

I'm looking for easy and cheap options for lunches on weekdays. I mostly eat deli sandwiches and hot dogs right now and I always feel like shit after eating them. I think I need something healthier but I don't have time over my lunch hour to cook anything too fancy. What do you all do for reliable healthy easy lunches?
