@ivory is there any hope, Ivory will implement thread posting, allowing users to write a long text, which is automatically broken up into a multi-post thread, so we can compose and post the entire text at once?

Right now, I am composing long posts as individual posts, and people start replying when my 1/3 is out, while I am still working on 2/3 and 3/3. Confusing for the followers and not ideal.

    That’s the number.

    President Biden has cancelled $153 billion in student debt for over 4 million borrowers in spite of a GOP Supreme Court and congress trying to hurt Americans along the way

    This is a huge win

    It’s between a sexual predator with 91 criminal charges or one of the most effective presidents of the modern era

    And for some reason it’s a close race.

    @flexghost @babyhuey78 I’ve blocked the twat, but worth noting that these numbers are the result of three separate programs, one of which Biden completely turned around after Trump and Devos intentionally mismanaged it (with over 95% of applications being rejected often for reasons divorced from the fault of the public servant), the PSLF program that was enacted by a Democratic Congress and signed into law by George W. Bush.

    While forgiveness generally has economic benefit, that program specifically encourages highly skilled workers to take lower paying government and public interest careers and pay what they are able for 10 years, with the government forgiving the rest. Taxpayers get a huge boon having these highly skilled people do the public’s work, chasing public interest rather than personal profit. The Biden Administration deserves huge props, even if they were the only thing they did.

    If you're an ordinary Mastodon user, the "block domain" option does not block servers, it just mutes them. It hides their posts from you, but does not hide your posts from them.

    Only server admins can do actual blocks through defederation, preferably on a server that has activated "authorized fetch".

    For example, if you want to avoid threads.net, you need to join a server that has defederated threads.net. (You can find nice servers that block threads.net at https://fedi.garden)

    @flexghost A big part of this is making PSLF, public service loan forgiveness, actually work after years of intentional mismanagement by Betsy DuBose.

    PSLF helps highly educated students choose public service careers, giving a benefit to help a strong public service workforce at the federal, state, and municipal levels, as well as for not for profit entities.

    Note that the interlocutory appeal does not stay the trial court proceedings. The trial court has full authority to proceed (and seems to plan to) as long as it does not undercut the order being appealed.

    I’ll add that the appellate court could issue a stay, but for now, things keep moving.

    As a legal geek side note, “interlocutory” means “while talking” or “during dialogue” so the nature of the appeal itself happens while we “keep talking” in the trial court.

    With VERY rare exceptions, an appellate lawyer can only obtain reversal on errors that were preserved properly, through timely contemporaneous objection raising the same argument being raised on appeal.

    No matter how much you pay an appellate lawyer, if your trial lawyer didn’t preserve errors properly, you’re almost always screwed.

    Saying her fair election was “rigged” is the exact populist anti-democratic way Trump and his ilk want to toss democracy to the side. She lost. Does money play a part in elections? No doubt. We have a privately financed election system. But it doesn’t mean the election was illegitimate or “rigged.”

    When you’re the good guys, you need to do better.

    I’m not her constituent, but I can tell you that she’s lucky because, despite all her good work, undercutting democracy and legitimizing the rhetoric Trump used to try to engage in an autogolpe is disqualifying to me. I hope she steps back because this is just not okay.

    What? A primary isn’t an election? So it’s okay for the loser of a primary to say it’s “rigged?”

    So it was okay when Trump said every primary he lost was rigged against him to further his frame of an illegitimate democracy?

    No, it doesn’t make sense. There’s no excuse for furthering the argument that Trump weaponized that phrase for to delegitimize the democratic process. Not because your opponent was better financed than you. Not because you’re frustrated. Not because you have animosity at the result.

    Nothing merits giving legs to the weaponization of the idea of a “rigged election” just because you are dissatisfied with the result. Nothing.
