It's not Slack's fault. It is a good platform for one-off messages. Need a useless bureaucratic form signed? Slack. Need your boss to okay the afternoon off? Slack. Need to ask your lead programmer which data structure you should use and why they're set up that way? Sounds like the answer should be put in a wiki page, not slack.

All workflows are small components of a larger workplace. Emails also suck for a lot of things. They probably wouldn't have worked in this case, memos are the logical upgrade from emails where you want to make sure everyone receives it and the topic is not up for further discussion.

This will keep happening, no one knows how to make hardened IT infrastructure while also letting 65 year old Suzie in HR stay productive, so we'll always have loopholes. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to use fewer cloud services, but obviously that has limits, you can't cancel your phone plan just because they may get hacked. You could use more encrypted services like Signal where a hacker wouldn't get anything useful even if they broke in.

Here's a few reasons this doesn't work:

  1. Planets are different sizes, electrons are all identical
  2. 2 planets cannot occupy the same orbit, but (at least) two electrons with opposite spin can
  3. If you have a high speed planet entering the solar system, you can't transfer some of its energy to another planet and have the rogue planet continue with less energy
  4. All orbital energies are possible, not so much for atoms
  5. Planetary orbits emit gravitational waves. If electrons produced the equivalent (bremstrahlung radiation) during "orbit", they would collide with the nucleus hilariously fast. This isn't a problem because electron orbitals don't have a physical representation.
