New pre-print:
Circulating microclots are structurally associated with Neutrophil Extracellular Traps and their amounts are strongly elevated in long COVID patients
"Our study revealed that NETs may be a component of circulating FAM, suggesting that higher NETs formation promotes the stabilization of FAM in the circulation, leading to deleterious effects which (in part) may contribute to the symptoms of LC."
An HERV-W ENV transcription in atypical memory B cells linked to #COVID19 evolution & risk for #longCOVID can express the encoded protein from a ribosome readthrough of mRNA from chromosome X
"Results not only confirm HERV-W ENV RNA origin in these patients, but show for the first time how a defective HERV copy can be translated into a complete protein when specific factors make it possible at the ribosome level.”
“Relationship between acute #SARSCoV2 viral clearance with #LongCOVID Symptoms: a cohort study”
"our study of adults with mild to moderate infections offers an important lens into the longitudinal course of SARSCoV2 infections occurring outside the clinical setting"
"Our results add to evidence showing an association between delayed viral clearance and long COVID." "We also observed that the association between viral clearance and #longCOVID differed between men and women."
@tomkindlon@longcovid@covid19@auscovid19 I have shared the invitation to the post Covid seminar, in the Swedish Facebook group for long Covid, as well in my normal Facebook flow.
Majorities can be wrong. And.. It's hard to tell ppl "hey your doctor is wrong for not masking, they're endangering you and their patients"-- without coming off as a conspiracy theorist. "Hey they're wrong when they say Covid is mild, because long Covid isn't. It's wrong your president isn't masking. It's wrong what most people you know are doing." So, Yeah... Majorities can be wrong, and small groups right. In fact that's usually how + change starts.
@tomkindlon
Interesting! Great to see a study confirm anecdotal/survey evidence. Though worth noting that the sample size was too small to make any direct call on CFS: only one person had CFS before getting covid.
"At this point, we can mostly admit we “know we don’t know much” about PASC in older adults. Part of the reason for the lack of knowledge is the general limitations in the literature on #PASC"
Study of 11 #LongCovid vs 34 healthy patients transcriptome at day 14 of Covid infection. "We identified 26 upregulated genes in patients experiencing long COVID. Dysregulated pathways including complement and fibrinolysis pathways and IL-7 upregulation."
“A range of conditions including Guillain-Barré syndrome/cognitive deficit/insomnia/anxiety disorder/encephalitis/ischaemic stroke/mood disorder exhibited a pronounced increase in long-term risk”
I'm not attending, but wanted to say I'm very impressed by how seriously North Bay Python ( @NorthBayPython ) is taking COVID. They're even monitoring CO₂ levels throughout their conference venue and posting the values. 500-550 ppm--the range the linked post says they're seeing--is barely higher than outside, which averages around 450 ppm most places, and at that level you'd probably be safe without a mask on (though I'd recommend always wearing a good-fitting N95 mask indoors with other people, personally, and if everyone went without a mask the COVID risk would increase even with such good air quality). It means the air is circulating well, which clears the air of virus.
They're showing how's it done, and it's not too onerous (at least, they're making it look easy). Every conference should be doing this kind of thing if they care about their attendees.
