"At this point, we can mostly admit we “know we don’t know much” about PASC in older adults. Part of the reason for the lack of knowledge is the general limitations in the literature on #PASC"
"Factors predictive of poor PA [physical activity] recovery were higher pre-diagnosis PA, shortness of breath and fatigue during acute illness, and fatigue chronically”
“A range of conditions including Guillain-Barré syndrome/cognitive deficit/insomnia/anxiety disorder/encephalitis/ischaemic stroke/mood disorder exhibited a pronounced increase in long-term risk”
I'm not attending, but wanted to say I'm very impressed by how seriously North Bay Python ( @NorthBayPython ) is taking COVID. They're even monitoring CO₂ levels throughout their conference venue and posting the values. 500-550 ppm--the range the linked post says they're seeing--is barely higher than outside, which averages around 450 ppm most places, and at that level you'd probably be safe without a mask on (though I'd recommend always wearing a good-fitting N95 mask indoors with other people, personally, and if everyone went without a mask the COVID risk would increase even with such good air quality). It means the air is circulating well, which clears the air of virus.
They're showing how's it done, and it's not too onerous (at least, they're making it look easy). Every conference should be doing this kind of thing if they care about their attendees.
I just confirmed this on the phone and it makes me so happy! Victoria Bug Zoo requires masks for the first hour they are open every day, for everybody age 5 and up.
One hour is stingy in the grand scheme, but at this moment I will celebrate anybody making any practical effort towards accessibility and covid safety. The difference between zero and one is huge.
"Welcome to the 107th Emerge Australia Research Digest, where we delve into recent research and media releases shaping our understanding of ME/CFS and #LongCOVID..."

"22.5% did not recover by 90 days post infection". "Recovery within 3 months was less likely in women and those with preexisting cardiovascular disease"
"No significant multivariable-adjusted associations [for non-recovery] were observed for age, educational attainment, smoking history, obesity, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or elevated depressive symptoms. Results were similar for reinfections"
"Passive transfer of IgG from patients to mice led to increased sensitivity & pain, mirroring patient-reported symptoms. Similarly, mice injected with IgG showed loss of balance & coordination, reflecting donor-reported dizziness"
"We have shown that 24% of people post-COVID-19 may have very low oxygen levels in the brain and that this hypoxia relates to reduced neurological function and quality of life."
CPET performed in a well matched cohort with and without acute Covid. "Patients with #COVID19 peculiarly showed a high degree of VE inefficiency as signaled by a marked increase in VE/VCO2 slope"
"data strongly suggest an important role of NK cells in orchestrating the pathophysiology of different phases of COVID-19 and of some post-vaccination side effects."
We are in the midst of yet another #COVID19 wave and yet the healthcare organization is doing away with employee testing and allowing healthcare workers to return to work after 24h. Hard not to despair. I will continue to wear #n95 at all times. #CovidIsNotOver
