It's been a grey old day, so much so I couldn't find the motivation to go out. But at 4pm I thought I'd just take a stroll round the Local reserve (Summer Leys), not expecting any/many photo opportunities. But I saw a few interesting things and had a go at capturing them with an ounce of over exposure.
This one is ' Three Wise Long-tailed tit Juveniles'
So we found out yesterday, thanks to our friend in the uk, that my 93 yo father-in-law's prepaid funeral plan is toast, the money is lost. The company 'Safe Hands' (and that's a laugh) is under criminal investigation, for fraud. He will be devastated to find out, as they were so pleased with themselves when they organized this. It paid for Steven's mother's, in 2020, but apparently went into administration early in 2022.
Yesterday, the UK government used an obscure emergency process to make possession of puberty blockers for new treatment of trans kids illegal, and punishable by up to two years in prison. [1] There was no parliamentary debate, no vote, and no public consultation.
Parents of children on GIC waiting lists are being told by the NHS that if they don't bring their kids to an """assessment""" they risk being reported to Social Services.
The Good Law Project recognises that the NHS are behaving unethically, and is running a crowdfunder to seek urgent legal advice to challenge the NHS.
↪ Next week #KingCharles and other royals will be taking part in commemorations in the #UK and #France for the 80th anniversary of the June 1944 #DDay landings
Today in Labor History May 31, 1838: Kentish peasants clashed with British troops in the Battle of Bosendon Wood. Sir William Courtenay led the uprising. Courtenay had previously run for public office and spent time in a lunatic asylum. He built up a large local following in the previous four years with his millenarian preaching and demonstrations against the New Poor Law of 1834. On May 29, 1838, he led a march through town, with a loaf of bread on a pole (a local symbol of protest). They continued protesting for the next two days, alarming the town’s wealthy elites. When the authorities tried to arrest Courtenay, he shot and killed a constable. The authorities quickly mustered a small army. Courtenay had a gun and a sword, but his followers had only sticks. Courtenay managed to kill a Lieutenant in the ensuing battle, but was promptly killed by other soldiers, who also killed eight of his followers.
Importantly, it touches not just on the value of the presence of #information from from election campaigns, it reflects on the (negative) value of the absence of information.
Since moving house in December, we have had very few birds in the garden (expected). At our last house, I'd be watching all the fledgling scampering around the garden about now, but here nothing until this morning when a Juvenile Pied Wagtail paid us a visit.

we're a quiet couple with two well-behaved cats looking urgently for an unfurnished bedsit/ground-floor flat/house to rent in the #UK, ideally #Wales. rural or the outskirts of somewhere.
tiny tiny budget but this will improve as we get up and running again, plus we can help with stuff. husband has building skills!
New McCarthy in #UK: Former #Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen has been suspended from the Labour Party for liking a video by American Jewish comedian, Jon Stewart, which criticizes Israel's apologists. British media described the video as "downplaying antisemitism accusations."
This is just unbelievable. The labour party is turning into a front for #IDF in UK.
Your reminder that when the Tories run out of these shit policy ideas then they will really go down to the lowest common denominator - blaming immigrants, personal attacks including Starmer, really nasty shit, transphobia and 'what is a woman?' because odds are it's in their pipeline/grid. Hope for the best folks, but brace yourselves too
