Is there a Fedi version of ?

Why the fuck would I let LinkedIn have scan my passport using my phone's NFC to get a freaking verified badge on their site?

I have over 5000 connections from people I worked with and been in contact with. They know I'm real and for the rest, I don't give a rats ass what they think of me.

have turned into a shot hole of professional network by copying all the crapwfrom Facebook already. Who the hell want to give them more data than they already have?

How does (0.3M $ yearly donations) have a translate feature, but (15B $ yearly revenue) doesn’t? 😂

Stack Overflow announced that they are partnering with OpenAI, so I tried to delete my highest-rated answers.

Stack Overflow does not let you delete questions that have accepted answers and many upvotes because it would remove knowledge from the community.

So instead I changed my highest-rated answers to a protest message.

Within an hour mods had changed the questions back and suspended my account for 7 days.

Diff view of a stack overflow question showing it being changed from the original text to a protest message, then being changed back again by a mod. Protest text reads: Why does OpenAI get to profit from our work? I have removed this question in protest of Stack Overflow's decision to partner with OpenAI. This move steals the labour of everyone who contributed to Stack Overflow with no way to opt-out. OpenAI has a history of flooding the web with inaccurate information and have explicitly stated that they will never pay creators for their work.

@ben Obviously we all gave up the right to the content that we created the very moment we joined Stack Overflow (or perhaps later when we "accepted" a change of their conditions).

Everyone should have noticed that some of us were herded into a "beauty contest", akin to the wares at a slave market in the 19th century ( is similar).

Those in the "community" who were motivated by mutual help were scammed.

The best option is to leave, and starve them of fresh content.

should just offer people in (& the rest of the planet) a simple option: either opt in to have your personal information sold to advertisers, or pay a fee to use , , & .

It works for (I pay them to avoid ads), as well as other news organizations. It’s really that simple.

@BeAware @madargon You analogy does not make any sense as using any of these social networks is optional. If you do not like a service, then just leave & do not use it.

I have left & over disagreements with their ad polices or (with the latter) the “premium spam” I was receiving (companies at the time could pay to harass you with spam).

These platforms are at best tools. If the tool is not to your liking, stop using it.

    @BeAware @madargon I had friends & business contacts on both & .

But guess what! I could always reach out to those friends & family via iMessage, email, phone calls or FaceTime.

I do not need social networks to connect with friends, family or colleagues.

Social networks are the icing on the cake, but the cake is being able to contact them via email or phone.

I know we'll all have our opinions about 's decision to join the , and that's fine.

Personally, I believe it's for the best. I've been missing out on a lot, I think - sometimes I find myself thinking, "hey, what do true leaders do straight after getting out of bed at 4am?" So it's good that this discourse is coming over to complete Fediverse's story.

I'll be editing my bio soon to make it more useful and friendly to new LinkedIn visitors. Please give them a warm welcome!
