Oh, yes. And putting up Matt Kean as the new chair of the Climate Change Authority is a stroke of genius. Want to get up Dutton's nose? They will be having a meltdown over this.
Former Liberal NSW treasurer Matt Kean named new chair of Climate Change Authority
Shocking moment. This is one of the only 4 beetles, which have dwelled in my forest between 15. April and 21. June! Cold or hunger killed this one. Météofrance is telling us, this has been the 4th rainiest Spring on record. But this one came after too many bad breeding seasons and only 2 after the heat dome. Beetles could not breed this year. There will be no ground fauna in 2025. This is it. Soil insects are passing away here.
This plot was created in 2019 for recording insects change with climate change. I never figured out, I would record the very moment of insects disappearing. 1/3
Could those of you posting news about climate change please include hashtags or words that describe the topic for example #ClimateChange?
That makes it possible for people who aren't able to manage that topic, to filter out those posts instead of blocking or unfollowing you and not seeing anything you post.
Some of us are already convinced that we should do everything we can to slow down climate change, but we're struggling with despair and depression, and the relentless stream of doom news is difficult to manage.
Not asking you not to post about climate change.
Not even asking you to use content warnings.
Just asking you to include words that describe the topic of your post, that people are likely to filter for.
@Zumbador I'm sure you'll get replies saying 'but I have to tell everyone, it's privilege not to read about it, blah blah blah'. I'm sure you know the sort.
I keep being undecided about whether to mute the climate change hashtag, though. On the one hand, like you say, I really can't handle the constant doom when it's something I already know a lot about. There's only so many times in one day I can handle being told 'we're all going to die'.
But on the other hand, I do quite like to see the hopeful posts. The ones like 'here's a new project/tech breakthrough/science discovery that can really make a difference!'. I wish there was a way to filter doom but not hope.
Only one pres. candidate has done anything about #climatechange. Pres Biden has called CC an existential threat to humanity -signed the IRA -largest investment in clean energy ever by adding tax credits & investments in wind turbines, solar panels, EVs...
@Nonilex Sounds like an "ostrich" effect with the finance folk burying their heads in the sand. They can't quantify the effects, and can't understand how to mitigate them. Result: Ignore the problem and make it seem like it won't affect them, let alone everyone on Earth.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much evidence is produced and in what form it is presented. The majority are not interested in #ClimateChange or even see it as an enemy to be fought against. And the #economy is incapable of change because in #neocapitalism everything is based on exploitation.

"The Peoples’ Climate Vote 2024, the largest standalone survey on climate change attitudes to date, reveals that 80 percent of people worldwide are urging their governments to take stronger actions to combat the #climate crisis."
@CelloMomOnCars
Yes, I've heard about that too. Surveys like that are nice, but nothing more than hot air. People talk a lot, but don't act on it. And demanding that politicians step up their efforts has only led to right-wing nationalist forces becoming more powerful in recent years. If individuals don't understand their impact and realize that they have to change their own behavior, we can conduct a thousand more surveys and not make an inch of progress.
#Stonehenge protest: if you worry about damage to British heritage you should listen to #JustStopOil
"The orange cornflour has been washed away by the charity English Heritage, which reports no visible damage. But #ClimateChange will continue to threaten Stonehenge, its wider landscape and the rare lichen living on the stones. We must channel our concern over potential damage to Stonehenge towards the real threats facing heritage sites."
