Global reaction to deadly Israeli attack on a tent camp in Rafah in which more than half of the dead were women, children, and elderly people, though death toll was likely to rise.
[…] Sitting beside bodies of his relatives, Abed Mohammed Al-Attar said Israel lied when it told residents they would be safe in Rafah's western areas. His brother, sister-in-law and several other relatives were killed in the blaze. […] "The army is a liar. There is no security in Gaza. There is no security, not for a child, an elderly man, or a woman. Here he (my brother) is with his wife, they were martyred," he said.
The international community has condemned the attack, with many countries calling for an immediate #ceasefire and a thorough investigation into the incident.
[…] "On top of the hunger, on top of the starvation, the refusal to allow aid in sufficient volumes, what we witnessed last night is barbaric," #Ireland's Foreign Minister Micheal Martin said.
[…] French President Emmanuel #Macron said he was "outraged" over Israel's latest attacks. "These operations must stop. There are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians," he said on X.
[…] #Germany's foreign minister Annalena #Baerbock and the EU foreign policy chief Josep #Borrell said the International Court of Justice ruling must be respected. "International humanitarian law applies for all, also for Israel's conduct of the war," Baerbock said.
French President, Emmanuel #Macron: “There are no safe areas in #Rafah and we call for full respect for international law and an immediate #ceasefire.”
Freaking hypocrite, what are you going to do about it?
“At a time when the people of Gaza are staring down famine; when hospitals are attacked and invaded; when aid organizations are blocked from reaching people in need; when civilians are under bombardment from north to south; it is more critical than ever to heed the calls made over the last seven months:
“Release the hostages. Agree a ceasefire. End this nightmare.”
Martin Griffiths, the UN’s chief of emergency humanitarian relief
« … ensure the unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip of any commission of inquiry, fact finding mission, or other investigative body mandated by competent organs of the UN to investigate allegations of genocide… »
« … immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part… »

@appassionato They SHOULD BE demanding an immediate #ceasefire, but these are most likely #Zionists supporters. Someone needs to tell them the #IDF bombings killed a number of them and #Hamas claims they've lost contact with at least one unit guarding the prisoners in #Gaza (via telegram, a day or two ago). They all can be presumed killed by Israeli forces too. @palestine
« … the reason there's no end game, the reason they're not talking about how they're going to administer a Palestinian dominated Gaza, is because they want the Palestinians out… »
It's probably best not to trust any Israeli voices on the state of things in #Israel or #Gaza. Even this Israeli "scholar," who admits that Israelis are almost unanimously pro-genocide, is pushing the "sexual violence" lie about Oct. 7.
A reminder that less than two weeks ago, it was revealed that Trump solicited a $1 billion bribe from the energy industry, offering in return the gutting of environmental regulations.
A week ago, Big Journalism had already consigned this epic scandal to the memory bin.
Had Biden done anything remotely like that, I guarantee that it would still be among the top stories of the day -- and Congress, including Democrats, would be moving toward impeachment.
@blazeoryan@mikeblake@dangillmor
That "commitment to allies" excuse doesn't work when you're talking about the people who literally rule the world. What, is Biden's boss gonna come down and give him an earful for NOT giving weapons to a genocidal state?
And if #Biden is so hamstrung by these commitments, then what about his commitment to the #UN and the #ICC, which he's now threatening to destroy?
« … reasonable grounds to believe, on the basis of evidence collected and examined by my office that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant bear criminal responsibility… »
« Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz has threatened to quit the government if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doesn’t provide a clear plan for what happens after the war on Gaza. »
“Israel took Palestinian life, liberty and freedom as hostage for the past 75 years,” says Hass. “You go to Tel Aviv, you think you are in New York or you are in London — and 40, 50 kilometers away, Palestinians live in cages.”
What has #Biden done that's worse than what #Trump did? I'll start. He went out of his way to bypass #Congress to give arms and money to a country that was clearly committing war crimes.
