Personally I tend to be hesitant on relaxing the duel means of egres rule completely when i’ve seen buildings in Vancouver use two sets of stairs interwoven in the same stairwell to achieve the same effect with only a 30% or so increase in floor space. Even if it’s statistically not much help knowing there are two ways out of the building in an emergency does have an advantage, and i’m not convinced that it’s actually as much of a factor into the proliferation of double stacked corridors as them just being the cheapest way build.
Otherwise i’m definitely a big fan of the suggestions, especially more interconnections between buildings.
This was super interesting! I like the connected greenspace approach with multiple buildings with different amenities instead of all buildings just having the same micro gym/kitchen/micro greenspace idea.
I’m curious as to what that boat was trying to do there. The seaplane can’t really turn when moving that fast, but the boat should have been easily able to turn around, slow down, or get out of the way. Were they just not paying any attention to their surroundings dispite being in a part of the harbor with a lot of boats and where seaplanes are constantly landing and taking off?
I would think the area would be a no go zone for boats, and there should be a tower with a clear view. In the video it looks like another similar boat is moving out of the way. But it looks like a lot of mistakes all at once to me.
I was in coal harbour one day last year and spent a while watching one of the sea planes taxi and take off.
At one point it had started gaining speed to take off but had to cancel at the last minute because someone in a kayak drifted in front of it so it turned around and had to do the whole thing again. There were tons of other craft out on the water too, and I found it kind of crazy that it's being used as an airport considering how busy and chaotic it seems to be.
It’s not chaotic at all imho, it’s most often pretty organized. The landing and takeoff area is off limits, but once in a while someone will end up there anyway.
A spokesperson for Harbour Air said one of its planes, with five passengers onboard for a sightseeing tour, collided with a boat after takeoff from the seaplane terminal.
I was really surprised to see the B1m, a mega project channel i follow, cover a project in my back yard...
I liked the video they have done, and loved to see this project.
Overall i think its a good coverage of the project. highlighting the floating roadways to minimize impact was appreciated. Still think its odd how many people dont like the project..
I live near one of the major station projects and I can definitely understand all the criticism from the local businesses, foot traffic is heavily impacted.
During construction, people and especially businesses owners haaaaate the subway. Can't live with it, want to move off the street it's on, bitch that they can't unload their worthless properties. Why would the city do this to hurt them specifically?
A few short months after construction's over, people and especially business owners love the subway. Can't live without it, want to move onto the street it's on, bitch they can't unload their worthless properties a block from the train. Why would the city do this to hurt them specifically?
I think it's worth noting the dynamics here. It's a lawyer's group that was requesting this and the premier said there were no plans to change the location. We can't truly know, but in my head, my kneejerk response was to get the feeling the lawyers also didn't want to be in a neighbourhood that reminds them of the existence of poor people (outside of those they work with, of course, who are usually trying to dress up).
Thanks all for the info. Sounds like city should be ok but not outside the city areas. I gave them a call and apparently I can do a 15day trial before comitting. I will probably give that a try before porting my current # over.
