Watching trump’s cases proceed (or in some cases stall), I see writ large how someone with UNLIMITED RESOURCES can manipulate our legal system’s rules, traditions and courtesies intended to engender fairness, especially for a criminal defendant, to make the system appear inept and/or corrupt.
In this case in early 2023 DA Bragg sought from SDNY documents about the Cohen investigation & prosecution, part of which were provided in June 2023 & passed on to trump’s team, who for months raised no issues about sufficiency. They waited till mid-January to subpoena SDNY for more, then agreed to repeated extensions for SDNY to comply. The voluminous subpoenaed documents are just arriving, and more will arrive next week. (Bragg says so far just 172 pages have been found to be relevant to the the upcoming trump trial.) Now trump is accusing Bragg of ethical lapses cuz he didn’t do trump’s lawyers’ homework for them & trying to get the charges dismissed or the trial postponed. SHEESH!
@GottaLaff Of course. The old adage about wheels of justice grinding slowly doesn’t come close to describing what trump is doing to the American Justice system.
What on god’s green earth were the So District fed prosecutors thinking in turning this over so late? If I’m the Manhattan DA, himself a former Southern District prosecutor, I’m LIVID.
The second of these cases is generally identified as the dispute over the will of the "Acton Miser" William Jennens of Acton, Suffolk. Jennens v Jennens commenced in 1798 and was abandoned in 1915 (117 years later) when the legal fees had exhausted the Jennens estate of funds; thus it had been ongoing for 55 years when Bleak House was published.
@GottaLaff I think of the people who have sued for money he owes them only to delay long enough they cannot afford to continue to sue. Always worked for him.
Absolutely. We've got much better and more important things to do with our time and energy.
We've got a long list of critical elections to win in November and whatever happens in any court isn't going to change who is on our ballots on Election Day.
@GottaLaff SDNY is who leaked shit to Giuliani. SDNY is who refused to charge Trump with anything, left it to Letisha James. I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, it’s just more of the same ole shit.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist. This, like the Garland decision to delay investigation and prosecution of Trump, like the Fani Willis hearing and subsequent decision, like Jared’s $2B and now his new investments, like Jeffrey Epstein’s “suicide”, like the Barr/Mueller report and so many, many other things, just STINKS.
I read all that stuff. Things stink, but not because of a conspiracy.
Americans are losing faith in our institutions (particularly the justice system), and our institutions keep reinforcing the perception that they serve the rich and powerful first, people who can afford to mortgage their entire lives to squeeze out a modicum of justice second, and working class folks not at all. Because that is precisely what they are designed to do.
I'm fine with my neighbors blowing their leaves into the street for the reason they will get cleaned up by street cleaners, but I don't support their actions or do likewise because as I understand, it breaks a citywide ordinance.
