I believe people will come to their senses and re-elect Joe Biden. He is a good and decent man, and a good President. I worry that he won’t finish a second term. But I tremble at the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision. I’m reminded of Galadriel’s speech in The Fellowship Of The Ring when Frodo tempts her with the Ring. That is what we’ll be living with until this horrible ruling is undone:
@GottaLaff
If anything, the Six Stooges have now lit a fire under those interested in preserving democracy that will have noticeable effects on turnout come November. Sow the tempest, reap the whirlwind.
@n1xnx@GottaLaff I hope young people realize that if Trump gets elected they may not get the chance to freely protest again. This is the most important vote of their lifetime- to vote against #FASCISM. And nothing else matters.
Yes. Many seem to have forget the US crackdowns against largely peaceful 2020 protests. Protestors plus legal observers & journalists were attacked or arrested. We now see results of authoritarian capture of the court. If the 2024 US election results in capture of an unaccountable executive & potentially all of Congress, the silencing of dissent may well become comprehensive. I hope the Americans buckle down & vote overwhelmingly against authoritarianism. Cc @mgmarkel@GottaLaff
@GottaLaff I'm looking for ways this can be used to galvanize the sheep who've been standing on the side saying "it won't happen here" or "it won't affect me"
There must be something possible besides marches and hoping people vote blue in Nov. But I'm not finding it yet
@GottaLaff I understand why sometimes you have to block, but there is a lot of genuine fear out there after the debate. While you and I are determined to still vote for Biden, ignoring the concerns isn't helping get the numbers we need. We can complain about the NYT or the doomsayers all we want, but we desperately need the Biden admin to do something to address those fears. Not all of us can easily escape from deep red states and our safety is in peril.
@WaterLizard What does one have to do with the other? I've never blocked someone for expressing genuine fear or concerns.
I block people who come in with "We'll lose" or with ignorant, hostile, or provocative replies that are designed to do nothing but incite or discourage others.
I just canceled a bunch of subscriptions to shit I can do without for a few months and am rerouting that money to the Biden campaign, local House and Senate races, as well as the DNC. I'm not exactly made of money, but this is worth it to me.
Everyone can contribute in some small fashion. The time to get involved is NOW.
Anyone who feels like now is the time to wail "We're gonna lose!" and "Liberals are to blame!" or WeverTF nonsense is a self centered attention seeking leech.
They're the one that gets bit by the zombie and doesn't tell anyone.
@GottaLaff then I'll just mention that the new season of Star Trek prodigy just dropped on Netflix and it's a nice brain bleach. Just a friendly suggestion. 😃
