The guy to the right, whose dictatorship we finance by producing all of our products in his country, just signed a deal to strengthen his partnership with the guy on the left, who wants to kill us.
@randahl China's population is aging rapidly, while its youth population is shrinking. I am certain that this demographic shift will lead to significant challenges for the country. It does not matter who supports china or not. it's going to decline.
On top of that, the guy on the right steals all out intellectual property of the products we are producing in his country and dumps product below cost price to gain share and destroy our markets. He has a long term plan. We don’t, it seems.
sooner or later, war in ukraine will end. and china is smart enough to plan ahead. china wants vassal state, some kind of satellite state where china reaps russian economy for profit.
@randahl I broadly agree with this over simplification.
What we need is an ‘non-democratic import tax’. We need to push manufacturing to democratic countries.
Oil and mining from Russia to #Ukraine once the East is liberated and the skys protected. We need to move China’s manufacturing infrastructure to India. We need to move clothes to real fledgling democracies.
It’s crazy simple. We just need our nation states to put our ethics where our money is. What we personally need to do is demand that of our politicians. The rest will just follow.
@randahl
The big corps outsourced production to China and were rewarded with bonuses and higher share prices for saving money. The corps enabled this and the subsequent rise in technical ability and power of China. Nice work.
It's part of how they managed to neuter workplace reforms and wage growth.
The irony is they want the cheapest workers, but once no one has any money, where will the growth come from?
@Niall a good place to start is, every time you buy clothes, check the label. If it says made in China or PRC just pick something else.
Learn which car brands are Chinese and buy American, Japanese or European instead. Learn which phone brands are Chinese and buy something which is produced in south Korea.
@randahl@Niall I am in Namibia right now. A country that had to deal with Western colonization and apartheid. China supports them with the infrastructure and many other things. Even on the clothes is in big letters written Made in China. What can the people do here? The majority is poor and has no choice.
@randahl@Niall China has spent at least the last decade, building the supply chain for electric vehicles, in particular batteries. This will be a huge and long process.
@randahl I hear your advice but as others have pointed out just because something was assembled somewhere it doesn't give a clue about its components. In my line of work alternatives to Chinese are often much more expensive and still contain mostly Chinese components.
Second hand where possible is my policy but that only gets you so far.
