#Disinformation warning:

A false story is spreading on Mastodon and other social media, claiming that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes, Ukraine cannot join NATO in the next 30 years.

I investigated this, and it is a lie. As anyone can see from this video, Scholz is talking about how Putin used a potential NATO membership as an excuse for attacking Ukraine, and Scholz is saying that AT THE TIME, he did not expect Ukraine to join NATO in the next 30 years.

My bet is, he still thinks the way he did back then.

Not enough people realize that the "Turing Test" as originally presented was "can a gay English man in 1945 tell the difference between a chatbot and a femme-coded woman" over a teletype connection.

(Turing was very gay and had a sex-segregated education and then work life: he basically didn't know women and his alienation is palpable. But today's techbros don't have any such excuse, and the emphasis on femme-coded AI is ... telling.)

Confirmed: According to the Governor of Odessa Oblast, Oleh Kiper, Russia used a ballistic missile with cluster munitions against civilians walking in a crowded area in Odessa yesterday.

5 people and a family dog were killed, 32 injured. Among the victims were a four-year-old child and a teenager.

This was day 795. Is there a limit to what atrocities we will allow Russia to subject the Ukrainians to?

Horrifying news from Ukraine: According to Ukraine Army Commander Oleksandr Syrsky, Russia has broken through the frontline at Novobakhmutivka in the Donetsk oblast.

Syrsky mentions lack of equipment as one of the reasons, Ukraine is now retreating.

In a series of posts on Threads, American businessman Dustin Moskovitz debunks Elon Musk's manipulated graph claiming to show exponential growth for the use of Tesla full self driving (FSD).

Manipulations include, the x-axis dates are deliberately not spaced evenly. And the data does not even show people buying FSD. They show, Elon Musk starting to give away FSD for free to get the graph to rise steeply.

However, today I saw, China burns 50.5 percent of all the coal burned every year on planet earth. While other nations are lowering coal usage, it has exploded in China over the last two decades.

That means, 1 country with 18 percent of the world population is now burning half of all the coal.

I simply do not see how we can solve the global climate crisis by having each country make their own rules.

If someone says, we have done enough for Ukraine, tell them this:

We are 789 days into this war, and the Kerch bridge is still standing, and letting Russia move military resources into occupied Crimea and beyond.

This is a strategic failure. Not on part of the Ukrainians, but on us for not providing the weapons needed.

The new aid package, which the US Senate will adopt today, is the first to mention ATACMS. Germany is still refusing to send Taurus missiles.

We are not doing enough at all.

amayer ,
@amayer@rheinneckar.social avatar

@randahl The ATACMS sent so far are
a) shorter range (because older type) and
b) have cluster warheads that are not suited to take out a bridge.

We will see what the new package contains.

amayer ,
@amayer@rheinneckar.social avatar

@randahl That’s the law, not a package.

"The aid package includes vehicles, Stinger air defense munitions, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems, 155 millimeter artillery ammunition, TOW and Javelin anti-tank munitions and other weapons that can immediately be put to use on the battlefield, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity."

Multiple videos show, during the night, Ukraine has attacked the military airbase near the city of Dzhankoi in Russian occupied Crimea.

This attack happened 150 km from liberated territory, meaning it is outside GMLRS range, but perhaps within range of the GLSDB glide bombs, or alternatively within range of the larger ATACMS missiles (all of which can be fired from the HIMARS launchers).

Multiple secondary explosions can be heard, so something was definitely hit.

amayer ,
@amayer@rheinneckar.social avatar

@randahl @DeeGLloyd Nitpick: HIMARS is the launch system. GLSDB are also fired from HIMARS, as far as I know.
The 'old' HIMARS missiles are called GLMRS.

Additionally, HIMARS is just the best known MLRS launcher Ukraine has. MARS and MARS II - which are tracked versions - can fire the same missiles.

YouTube is a mystery sometimes.

18 days ago, I made a short, the YouTube algorithm immediately picked it up, and showed it to 8500 people.

Saturday I made another short, and about 100 people came in from Mastodon to see it, but YouTube never picked it up.

The new short is about religious voters in the US, and I wonder if that is somehow a too sensitive topic, or if I simply made a bad video.

Input is appreciated.

It gets to me when big companies abuse their power. I watched the latest video from @anderspuck, where he presents an analysis on the Moscow terror attack.
It is a good video, and 148,000 have watched it.

But subsequently YouTube has demonetized his video for "exploiting a sensitive event". So because he is talking about a terror attack, YouTube holds back the payment for his work.

You read that right: the monopoly punishes a content creator for commenting on… reality.

@randahl @hillker @anderspuck YouTube doesn’t care about what the world needs.

So - quite predictably - YouTube favors thoughtless, feel-good videos.
