Prior to 1982, the SEC considered stock buybacks to be illegal stock manipulation. But under President Reagan, stock buybacks were made legal. Now, instead of investing profits into people, big corporations use them to line the pockets of wealthy shareholders. They're a scam.

Pretty simplistic statement you posted, there.

Shareholders are also ANYONE with a 401k plan to help them with their retirement. Current Social Security benefits sure aren't going to support seniors.

This is what circumventing Russian sanctions looks like:

In spite of EU sanctions against Russia, The Kingdom of Denmark has doubled its exports of pelagic fish from the Faroe Islands to Russia.

This traffic is made possible because conveniently, The Faroe Islands is an autonomous part of Denmark which exists outside EU boundaries.

This is like if Hawaii suddenly doubled its exports to Russia, while the US was sanctioning the country.

Not a good look.

Hawaii is not an autonomous part of the USA. It is just as much a state within the United States as California or New York. A better example for you analogy might be Puerto Rico or Guam.

wannabemystiker ,

@randahl
It is no more or less self-governing than any other state in the Union.

Three wins just now:

— The House has advanced the Ukraine aid package with votes 165 (D) to 151 (R).

— Marjorie Taylor Greene has left the House in anger.

— Final vote tomorrow.

We are getting there!

Your regular reminder that if not for the Trump and Bush tax cuts, federal revenues would keep pace with federal spending indefinitely.

Instead, these tax cuts have added $10 trillion to the debt.

The so called "party of fiscal responsibility" is full of it.

Why does American tv studios often use strangely tall chairs?

Here is one example, where Jen Psaki cannot reach the floor, so they have designed a special plexiglass stand for her to put her feet on, while her guest sits with dangling feet.

I do not recall this being a preferred look on Danish or German tv shows, and it looks really unnatural to me, but what could be the purpose behind this decision?

Amazon squeezed sellers and jacked up prices.

Google stamped out competitors in search.

Facebook used buy-or-bury schemes to crush competition.

Apple used its immense power to kill off challengers.

All four face major antitrust cases from the US government.

It's about time.

How long are you contagious with COVID-19?

Here's what the science says:
➡️ Most people are infectious for ~10 days
➡️ ~80% of people test positive for 5 days after symptom onset
➡️ Only ~30% of people who test positive have a fever
➡️ Presence of symptoms is an unreliable indicator of infectiousness
➡️ Individuals can be infectious before the onset of symptoms
➡️ Asymptomatic cases represent around 20 to 40% of all infections

..also asked to pause enforcement of finan penalty & wide range of other punishments the judge levied.” #legal

The biggest challenge in 2024 is to get enough people to actually listen to what Trump and those around him are openly, consistently, and explicitly promising to do once they get back to power.

It is utterly deranged, and discounting it as just rhetoric would be a disaster.

I don’t know what the hell is happening to National Public Radio (NPR) but according to one of their commentaries, today, “… it's possible that the comment [by Trump about encouraging Russia to go after “delinquent” NATO allies] was just a throwaway line at one of many rallies he will hold before the election."

What the hell is wrong with you NPR?!😡
