I have not the slightest idea why companies use Red Hat. When people think this is how Linux is, no wonder they think Linux sucks.

I have to use Red Hat and I cannot stop thinking about how much more professional Debian appears to me. They can at least make decent packages that work properly.

Why isn't the abortion ban restricted to Christians only?

What's your server wattage?

I'm in the process of wiring a home before moving in and getting excited about running 10g from my server to the computer. Then I see 25g gear isn't that much more expensive so I might was well run at least one fiber line. But what kind of three node ceph monster will it take to make use of any of this bandwidth (plus run all my...

I recently removed my 25Gbps PCIe dual port cards from my 2 servers because they were using 20W more. My entire rack including 2 UniFi PoE connections uses 90 W now (so 110 W just for having 25 Gpbs).

There is some heat from such cards, but usually it gets transported outside fine. The ones I bought did not come with a fan. I think you cannot operate them without one. The heat sinks get very hot.

German carmaker Volkswagen says forced labour in one of its sub-supplier's plants in China was not identified as 'no full supply chain transparency exists' ( www.hrw.org )

- Volkswagen (VW) in 2023 commissioned a deeply flawed audit at a plant in China's Xinjiang province operated by a subsidiary of Volkswagen’s joint venture with SAIC, a Chinese state-owned carmaker....

It's so easy to work around an audit. Companies lie. Auditors are being bribed. Everything is based on trust.

The immunization graph actually looks depressing to me. There are people with no vaccination at all in this world?

Every single free operating system made sure in the 90s that not a single line from commercial OSes like Unix persists in the kernel and userland. The idea is Unix, but not the code.

I recently replaced MacOS with Linux on a MacBook. And next year my last installation of Windows is going to be deleted. I absolutely hate this ad-infested crap they want to distribute.

Don't worry. EU institutions without all the countries gave more than USA to Ukraine. If you additionally consider the small EU countries, it's also a lot. So don't worry. EU gives enormous support, even though USA is the largest donor as a single country.

Did you use iperf? It makes sure that HDD/SSD is not the bottleneck.

You can also check the statistics and watch for uncommon errors. Or trace the connection with tcpdump.

The same with video games.

Idiots: "You kill people?"
Idiot politicians: "Killing people is allowed >18 years."

Linux Note-taking app that supports CalDAV

Hi, does anybody know any notetaking app which supports sync with caldav server ? I am self-hosting a Radicale server which on android with DAVx5 client and jtx Board app works pretty well! I have searched on web but haven't found any desktop alternative to jtxBoard yet which supports this protocol. Anybody using this setup ?

Maybe it's not what you want to hear, but I was looking these types of apps, too, some time ago.

Then I noticed that most of the apps are useless for me and found an interesting type of apps that implement a "second brain". There are a few of them, but I chose Logseq.

The only problem is sync across devices. There are not many good options. Maybe it'll get better with DB support later.

Proxmox Host Terrible Upload Network Speeds

I've had fun building a plucky little homelab on Proxmox 8.1.4 running kernel 6.5.13-1-pve. It's installed on an HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Desktop Mini PC, with the OS installed on a SATA SSD, there being a 4tb NVME btrfs pool, and there being multiple HDD's connected via USB3. Services are run an an LXC that has Docker installed, a...

Any errors on the interfaces? Does tcpdump show something interesting? What do the system logs say?

That's a weird logic. If I cannot find it on price comparison sites, the offer doesn't exist.

I think default passwords are not even enough. There must be some additional fuckup unmentioned. Usually such devices don't expose the management interface publicly, so a password wouldn't be enough.

They can have access to everything, if you use GBoard (default Android keyboard app).

Of course the headline is misleading. AI has always read your messages, if you allowed it. It depends how the AI is used and if it respects your privacy. It is possible and you can enjoy having your messages classified (or tagged) properly, so you know what are ads, which one belong banking, news or things you're interested in.

As long as it assists you to do some boring complex tasks, it can be a great help.

I hope it gets reversed in the next instance. The judge had it absolutely wrong. And the consultant did not expose it, but told the company directly that he is able to read the admin password without an effort. They sued for telling them. That's absolutely the worst thing to do.

The point is that if you cannot make money in Germany, you're dumb. It's not about gas or energy. It's cheap as it was earlier but they're much more taxes.

The problem is the laziness of the industry and service sector. They haven't been making progress but stagnated for decades hoping to just make money from status quo. Now they blame everyone but themselves just to distract from their mismanagement.

But the reality is, when you don't make money, someone else will do.

Except it is a threat to democracy to discredit certain groups or taking away rights from them based on their living circumstances. To be able to do this, you'd need to abolish large portions of the constitution. And this, by definition, is anti democratic.
