calling them “rubber bullets” or “foam projectiles” is incredibly misleading

they should be considered “rubber coated” at best

the core is still a slug of metal, so all the coating does is reduce the penetrative capability

the trauma inflicted is still arm-, rib- or skull-fracturingly massive

imagine being beaten half to death with a rubber-coated hammer. do you care that it was rubber coated?

Me: I'm feeding this to the girls!
Husband: Nooooo! That's horrible.
Me: But they love spiders the most...
Husband: You have to give it a chance put it outside.
Me: It's too cold it will die. Let me just feed-
Husband: 🥺
Me: OK fine. I'll put it on the bookshelf.

I leave the spider in an open tiny glass vial on its side on the shelf.

The spider is lazy. When I get home it's built a web in the jar.

In the park near my home there is a great outcropping of rock. A cliff in miniture. It's about 20 foot high, and too perilous to climb. It's encrusted with lichen and trees emerge from the wider cracks.

This isn't so unusual in NYC. When a parcel of land remains "undeveloped" (by people) it's often because it's too uneven and rocky to permit construction. The bedrock that anchors skyscrapers is exposed to the elements and becomes a wonderful habitat for all manner of creatures. 1/

@futurebird the traffic islands in the nearby village stopped being “garden boxed” i think mainly because we live in semi-perpetual drought and the fancy flowers couldn’t hack it and traffic-hazardous grasses would dominate. so they weedmatted and buried them in a couple of inches of bark chips to keep things down. and now we get these amazing sporadic bouquets of self-sown perennials, like varieties of wild dandelion and alpine flowers, that are “supposed” to grow in that space

@futurebird the thing that’s fun for me is you just know that wasn’t council’s intent when they bark chipped it. but it’s become like a little oasis of weedy feral flowers for pollinators… not as tacky as the introduced plantings they had before, and it’s not so obstructive visually that council need to act on it for “road safety”. so hopefully they never do

One of the downsides to connecting your nests using long tubes is "ant loitering" some ants like to just hang out in the tubes because they retain a little moisture and it's near everything. This will cause the tubes to get dirty and less attractive... hence my new invention of a "mid tube fan"

We need to SHUT DOWN tiktok until someone teaches everyone on there the correct usage of "POV"

A POV is filmed from the perspective of a person, as if you are living their life and seeing out of their eyes. The POV is of the person who you are standing in the place of.

So. "POV ants all over your hands" would have hands coming in from the bottom and side of the frame with ants on them, as if they are your hands.

"POV an ant cleans you" Would have a ant liking the camera lens.

I remember going to the dentist as a kid and the dated old music from the 70s they always played.

Songs like "Take it Easy"

But, here is the mystery. When I go to the dentist now it's the same music. Doesn't matter what dentist I see or what city. The music is still from the 70s.

Shouldn't it be music from the 00s by now?

Why are all Dentist offices frozen in time??
