@futurebird the traffic islands in the nearby village stopped being “garden boxed” i think mainly because we live in semi-perpetual drought and the fancy flowers couldn’t hack it and traffic-hazardous grasses would dominate. so they weedmatted and buried them in a couple of inches of bark chips to keep things down. and now we get these amazing sporadic bouquets of self-sown perennials, like varieties of wild dandelion and alpine flowers, that are “supposed” to grow in that space
