Update on the North Carolina anti-mask bill: The committee has come to an agreement on a compromise bill.

BUT the compromise bill contains problematic language, saying you can wear a mask to "prevent the spread of contagious disease."

This sounds like you can wear a mask if you already have COVID, but not to prevent yourself from getting it.

Masks are a key prevention tool. People should have the right to wear them to protect their own health.

Which is why the courts will throw out the law itself if anyone challenges it. Vague laws get thrown out precisely because they can be selectively enforced in a biased manner. And the lawmakers have even explicitly said selective enforcement is their intent.

    He's trying to get Cohen to violate his prior plea agreements under oath. Which could have additional criminal consequences, from what I understand.

    He was required to swear that he admitted to wrong-doing and wasn't coerced, etc, when pleading guilty, and Blanche is leading him into walking it back. It's not relevant to the current trial - Trump is simply attempting to punish Cohen for testifying here.

    Step 2: Politically destroy Biden and the other politicians with the same outlook.

    Step 3: Reform the Democratic party into something which will never again support genocide.

    People want to vote for not-Biden because it looks like the only way to send the message that this is absolutely not acceptable. But the current alternative is far worse in every way, including for the people of Gaza.

    There needs to be a plan of action beyond the election.

    The last thing I want to do is put you in jail, Justice Merchan says to Trump. You are the former President of the United States and possibly the next President as well.

    I suspect the short-term jailing will more likely commence when Trump fails to remove all of the ordered messages, and offers up some BS justification for it.

    He's the type to think that paying the fine allows him to push back on complying with the judge's orders. Whereas out there in the real world, it's the most direct way for him to end up in a cell.

    Jail time for contempt of court wouldn't delay the trial - they'd store him on or near the court premises, and haul him in every day he's supposed to appear, just like any other criminal defendant who's in jail during their trial.

    That has the added benefit of forcibly preventing the defendant from further violations of the gag order, if nothing else dissuades him.

    #2 replaced the nurse who was worried about being IDed, so was added a little later in the process. The prosecution would have had fewer peremptory challenges left by then (if any), and may have wanted to save them for potential jurors with more red flags 🤷‍♀️

    It's also possible they'd already looked into him a bit, and found that data reassuring.
