Britain passed contentious legislation to allow the deportation of asylum seekers to Rwanda, a political victory for its Conservative government. The bill faced opposition from human-rights campaigners, immigration experts and legal critics -NYT
@GottaLaff Tell me about it, I am SOOO ashamed of our government today.
As with Fuxit, they are ignoring all advice, & as with Fuxit it won’t work !
Nobody is talking about how much all this is costing the British tax payer either 🙄🤦♂️
In other news , because of a shortage of feet on the ground , the UK Gov is trying to shame those suffering from serious, long term MH issues back into work!
@GottaLaff ugh. There's no app for Lords votes in the same way there is for the Commons - I wonder if it's Labour or the crossbenchers who gave up.
It'll probably still be hung up on legal challenges but this is very frustrating, as I'm pretty sure there wasn't enough time to use the Parliament Act on this. The Lords could, and should, have killed it.
@GottaLaff The legislation is abominable.Everything I've read says there's no guarantee that it will come to pass. Court challenges may kill it.
It's just nauseating. Sounds like something that trump might try to pull if he gets another term.
@GottaLaff It’ll be held up in courts and the ECHR. The government will flail about and threaten to leave the ECHR. But as that’s a pillar of the Good Friday agreement it won’t happen
The current government are not deep or clever thinkers, and they’re on the way out.
