No need to fear

>2 decades ago, the shocking results of a major women’s study challenged the safety of menopause medication, & overnight, millions of & their abandoned the drugs….
Now, a long-term follow-up of the Initiative (WHI)…found that for many younger menopausal women—under 60—the benefits…outweigh the risks for short-term treatment of symptoms, incl’g hot flashes & night sweats.

@Nonilex it's also the leading treatment for osteoporosis in women in the UK (according to a BBC article), and seems effective. In the US we have an array of newer, more expensive treatments that have some serious caveats. Makes me mad.

So night terrors, sleep paralysis etc. seem to be a real thing. I've had "bad dreams" but never anything that sounds like these experiences. It sounds like it's scary. Scary like when you are home alone and hear a sound and don't know what it is.

I'm curious if people who can have this are can be aware that it's not real when it's happening.

When I get anxious I can also know "this is just that thing" and I'm sort of detached about it?

Can that happen with fear?

@futurebird Had it happen when I was younger, replete with a demon, multisensory involvement, etc. I wasn’t paralyzed; I was free to sit up and touch things & take my time realizing it was a dream. The vision-world I was in gradually melted back into the actual darkened room I was sleeping in, & I could watch the ordinary objects around me reemerge from whatever they’d been transformed into in the dream. So there was a minute where I was able to think, this is a hell of a trip.

Got tired of not having a click wheel in my life, and the Tangaras haven't come out yet, so on a whim I bought a refurbished iPod on ebay. Busting out the mp3 library from the external hard drive deep freeze. Pretty excited.

@sidereal It’s about value. Even pirates recognized value. Does that mean streaming is worse than piracy? Hmm

Apple’s Vision Pro is a visionless product that only exists to placate investors and try to show the company can still innovate under Tim Cook.

The headset demonstrates just how much Apple lost its way after a decade of putting the share price above everything else.

@parismarx The weird thing about it to me is, the only thing it’d be really compelling for is gaming, but they seem to be studiously avoiding talking about that.

The half-baked philosophical conundrum that keeps me up at night most often is simply: why is my consciousness limited to me in particular? Why am I not everyone? Or everything? or nobody? Or you? Or an ant? Or an ant colony? How did I find myself in this particular stream and what is the nature of the boarders that keep me within it?

This idea generally frustrates and freaks me out and I doubt there is a sensible answer, I doubt it's productive to think about, but I worry on it over and over.

@futurebird I have a very early memory of asking my dad a question along this line… I used a rabbit as an example. Could I have been a rabbit instead? Why am I not a rabbit anyway? He was disturbed about it…
