Bachelor's in Computer Science at University of North Carolina - Charlotte (Go Niners!). I took an Intro to Machine Learning course and that was sparked my interest in Data Science, and Graph Theory. My interests also lie in Philosophy and Astronomy.

And politics but I'm not affiliated with any party so don't put me in one.

I can't believe I even have to say this, but it is not normal that the Supreme Court is taking its sweet time to decide if a former president is immune from prosecution for inciting an insurrection to overturn an election. This should have been decided already. The answer is no!

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@rbreich they're trying to figure out how to give Trump immunity and make sure that it can't be applied to Biden...so it's gonna take longer to get the clowns in the car.

What did Trump do in Detroit? First search result is New York Post with a very misleading headline "Donald Trump receives strong support from black voters in immigrant-weary Detroit: ‘Taking your jobs’" A photo of a black guy in a Trump hat and a photo of Trump.

But, this is what the crowd looked like at the "Black Church" It is a Black church but not much of the congregation showed up. Most black people there are regulars who go to events all over the country to provide "diversity."

A modern church interior. A crowd of maybe 200 people mostly white.

@futurebird Your entire post then means that Trump Campaign has it's on DEI team that follows him around.

Even the GOP use DEI people so why do they push for DEI to not be anywhere else?

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@futurebird Ugh, I didn't think about that.

I would love to say, "is this election cycle over?" but the reality even if Trump loses I think this is politics for the next 20 years.

We are not quite living the "Parable of the Sower" times yet. But with SCOUTUS removal of the bump stock ban we're getting there.

The Senate will vote shortly on a bill to prevent birth control from being banned. Republicans previously blocked attempts at this and may do so again.

If you'd told me 60 years ago that we'd be debating whether birth control should be legal in 2024, I wouldn't have believed it.

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@rbreich I kind of feel like all of this could have been avoided years ago if the Federal government would have just passed laws protecting women's choices and birth control.

But if you'd have told me all this was happening in 2024 I'd have thought that crazy 20 years ago. I figured we'd be here around 2044.

We've been headed this way for 70 years. Joseph McCarthy & Roy Cohn, unfortunately, showed the GOP the way back then.

Even after being found guilty, Trump continues his crimes, violating his gag order by demeaning Michael Cohen.

Put this man in jail already.

@randahl Unfortunately, they won't. And even with 34 counts of a felony. It's a white collar crime and he more than likely will see no jail time since this is his first offense.

A new documentary shows how homosexual relationships exist among several animal species, and this comment from Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren, is the clear proof, that in our own species, people with insight do not want to work for Fox News.

Quick Tulip update: Didn’t see her for a few days and started to worry since she getting up in years for an ant. Just spotted her in the lower chamber doing some patrolling around. She’s at least two years old. Still full of life. #namedAnts #tulip #ants #tuliptheant

Close up of Tulip, a very good looking ant: she has a wide head and six sturdy black legs.

@futurebird Have you heard of Prof?!? He had a song called Squad Goals. But don't watch the video it's kind of crazy with a bit of Mister Rogers satire.

But that's exactly where my brain went.

Two very different political campaigns:

  1. On the Republican side, Speaker Mike Johnson is speaking outside the Manhattan courthouse, explaining how offended he is, that the justice system would prosecute the criminal, which he wants to be president.

  2. On the Democratic side, Foreign Secretary Anthony Blinken is in Kyiv to back Ukraine, and in the evening he goes to a night club to sing, "Keep on rocking in the free world!"

What do you think is the winning message?

I've been reading some history books about Europe in the middle ages. The matter of the education of kings is incredibly interesting. It seemed nearly universally recognized that an excellent education is essential to a family holding on to power. And even in the controversies of the day (such as religion) children of the ruling class were exposed to a surprisingly wide range of ideas. Including those treated as heresy for the general population.

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@futurebird Personal opinion but I think Fascists see the value and power of an education and that is one reason to make sure the populace is not educated.

You want to control what people learn and how people learn it.

I would say that this is the same perspective that slave owners in the United States had and kept slaves ignorant beyond what they would teach them.

Also, the same policy that certain conservatives continue in the South.

Education = Freedom + Power!!!

Trump always claims to have the biggest crowds sizes, so Walter Masterson films 35 minutes of Trump supporters walking out on Trump.

This does not look like the winning candidate, Trump claims to be.

@rbreich I think that is not the right question. Should the government be the facilitator of creating billionaires?

I mean Bill Gates wasn't alone with Microsoft in becoming a billionaire. He received support and tax breaks from the federal if not state government.

I'm not an economist, I'm going to assume that my statements have a wee bit of truth but it's wildly more complicated than that.

I do believe in a free market system but does any government truly practice that?

Man we live in crazy times…

Republican Bill Barr tells CNN, that when he was Attorney General, Trump would frequently inform him, he wanted specific US citizens killed, but according to Barr, it is not a problem, because the government did not carry out the order.

Imagine that: A president angrily suggesting to use the power of the state to assassinate people he does not like, and it all comes down to, whether the person he is talking to tries to calm him down… or not.

@randahl Another statement from conservatives that they just want unchecked power. He also stated that the United States did not gain independence from the British Crown but its parliament.

This completely forgoes what the United States Declaration of Independence states which we were demanding our independence from King George III!!

(1/2)

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@randahl We rejected the idea of King, therefore, we don't want a president immune from prosecution of criminal acts; we want a criminal president held responsible by trying and convicting them!!

Sometimes I have a hard time believing what I see, when I follow Trump on social media…

But I promise you, this is a real screenshot of what Trump has shared yesterday: A picture of God protecting him, containing a prayer asking God to strike down all enemies who [actual quote:] “what to harm him”.

After an entire week exposing Trump's crimes and extramarital affairs, he is sharing God memes — no political agenda, no vision for America.

This is not a party — it is a cult.

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@randahl What if Jesus doesn't punish Trump's enemies? What if he's found guilty of his criminal cases, what if the law takes away all his illegal money? What if he's jailed for the rest of his life?

What if Jesus says he's guilty and judges him to hell?

What will his followers do then?

Probably follow him and complain to the devil that Jesus wasn't being fair.

If someone had told me 10 years ago, US politics would fall apart because a spray tanned criminal, who swears, rapes, and engages in extramarital sex, would manage to convince religious voters, he was chosen by God…

… I would have thought they were insane.

Same sex marriage has been legal. What exactly has happened? Where are the horror stories of cats and dogs living together and mass hysteria?

As people try to undo this popular change ... where is the evidence of harm or tumult? They don't even attempt to make such a case because it's so futile.

That alone should end the misguided quest to tear families apart.

Three ants were fatally injured during the "incident" today. I'd like to remind everyone that chewing through tubing can be fun, but barriers exist for your own good. There are monsters beyond your little world and it breaks my heart when any ant is lost.

jasonb ,
@jasonb@sigmoid.social avatar

@futurebird I mentioned you should read the book "Children of Time" by Adrian Tchaikovsky??

I think in a lot of ways you'd find it interesting. Like what would intelligent spiders do with ants?
