What did Trump do in Detroit? First search result is New York Post with a very misleading headline "Donald Trump receives strong support from black voters in immigrant-weary Detroit: ‘Taking your jobs’" A photo of a black guy in a Trump hat and a photo of Trump.
But, this is what the crowd looked like at the "Black Church" It is a Black church but not much of the congregation showed up. Most black people there are regulars who go to events all over the country to provide "diversity."
@futurebird yeah I'm a bit worried about this blind drift into a world where every instruction we try to give our devices is run through a stochastic interpreter first. This is hardly new of course. Google has been ignoring the key word in my search terms for what feels like a decade 🤦
Yahoo still ignores it. Yahoo seems to only give results for the most popular of the terms you enter and ignore the rest. Google will respond better (credit where it's due I guess. )
@futurebird One thing you can do in most search engines is put a word in quotes to say "search this exact term" which also self-implies it is not optional.
God I hope so ... for their sake. Imagine doing that and you didn't even get paid... then looking back on your life and thinking "yup that was how I choose to spend my damn free time making everything worse, especially for people like me in particular, and everyone else knew (but me) and was laughing at me about it."
@futurebird as a white guy in Canada I've also been getting a lot of "black people love Trump" news which all seems entirely astroturfed, and the comments all seem botted/assets
@jasonb Yes, it's cliché to say that every accusation is a confession, but in this case it's a helpful frame. GOP fascists say they oppose DEI because it results in unqualified people getting jobs based solely on their identity. Which is exactly how they treat diversity and identity politics in general. E.g. Clarence Thomas. @futurebird
I wasn't interested in the transcript of this event, but rather another one in Detroit. I'm curious if the search results are giving me "black news" because of my location (The Bronx) or other user data.
Or is this the main story Trump is pushing out from Detroit? He talked to Black people and they loved him?
Not really.
Some of Trump's followers don't like to feel like they are racist and he will likely fool a small percentage of Black people too.
@futurebird ...so, hot take, I don't believe Trump is a racist per se...
I think he's a sociopath who sees ethno nationalist traitors, as well as Christian nationalists traitors, as constituents he needs to pander to. He doesn't care how he wins, he just wants to win, at whatever cost.
If he could get votes by promising a platform that would fire infants into the sun, he'd call Elon ASAP.
He just doesn't like or particularly trust black people. And he seems to buy in to all the worst stereotypes without reservation.
He also thinks bizarre things about Jewish people, Latinos, etc.
Remember the "sh**hole countries" comment? That wasn't just for his base. That's who he is, and I think his base can feel the authenticity of it and it's one of the reasons many of them love him so much. "tells it like it is"
@futurebird You can use a proxy to test location bias. I usually use proxysite.com which gets the job done, but there may be other sites. (I like that one because at least one of the servers -- US4 -- typically works on the sites that blanket IP ban entire ranges.)
