Software for equipment and software for imaging etc. I work in healthcare. I’d love to use Linux but we’re stuck on software that is based on Java from 8 years ago, as the newer version is not compatible with some older equipment. Add to that, the newer version costs $500 per user to upgrade with no additional features, and this is just for one medical camera, that treats the camera like a webcam. The problem is how it stores images is in a custom database, through a server. Otherwise, the Java part should be easy enough.

Medical equipment is super expensive and they only make a few thousand of some of them. So, the software is super expensive too and not updated nor is there versions for Mac or Linux. Heck, most of them don’t officially support windows 10 or 11. It’s really frustrating too, as most are really a simple bridge that connects to the machine to give instructions or receive data. They are not usually drivers, but send data over the network. An open format would suit better for security too, as all this old software will be pretty leaky.

Do you know what community you’re commenting in, lol?

Spotify is all music on the go. Certainly for albums or music you want to keep on your device, it's the arrs, but for music, especially playlists, you listen to on the fly, Spotify is a better experience.

hitmyspot ,

Isn't that the case with pretty much any election? You compare their history to predict what they will do.

If you vote trump in, it is no longer a theoretical trump genocide.

Trump just happens to be so awful, that literally aiding genocide is not worse.

hitmyspot ,

It won't even need a big set of storns. It will just need the constant slightly elevated and worsening conditions we've been seeing, with more frequent major events. A failure of attrition , literally and figuratively.

Then a custom rom, like graphene is allows you to de google your phone. Although google have embedded themselves deeply into android, the pixels are quite open about unlocking boot loader etc.

Roddy Doyle. Written as mainly dialogue, but with fabulous world building. Many of his books were made into movies, but they are more well known in Ireland than elsewhere. The commitments found international success. Plot wise, they’re not ground breaking, it’s his creation of characters and tackling some tough subjects.

Zadie smith. Again, slice of life, but with more of a point.

Dan brown, but only for energising thriller mysteries.

What if there was two new and one deleted, or 2 deleted and one new? It doesn’t need to be that granular. It’s just letting you know there has been a cha ge since last visit.
Perhaps as it can be negative, changin to +1 comments, rather than +1 new makes sense. Then the negative number still makes sense.

Joe Biden calls trans people “fabric of our nation” in Trans Day of Visibility proclamation ( www.lgbtqnation.com )

In commemoration of the upcoming Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), President Joe Biden issued a statement praising trans people’s contributions to society and describing actions his administration has taken to counter transphobic bullying and extremism. Additionally, many members of Biden’s Department of Health and Human...

You mean those people working on the Lords day?

hitmyspot ,

Yes, but what so considered trams phobia now could be seen as progressive back then. The first half. Of the movie shows a complex if flawed character. The reveal is played for laughs and is awful in modern context. It was a bit of a play on the crying game.

Similarly there is lots of homophobia and trans jokes in something like friends, and Ross wife leaving him for a woman is played for laughs. At the same tine, there were lesbian characters who weren't overly cliché.

We see racism in Disney movies and lots of villains are gay coded. Disney has done what it can to erase song of the south from their history. Ignoring our flawed history dooms us to repeat it, as we see with a resurgence of fascism and nationalism.

The problem is Microsoft have abused it. Now they claim an update is for security, but instead it just reverts settings to promote their other products.

Yes, but trust is required of users are not going to boot out. If it's not opt out, that's a risk in intself.

The problem is that its less Abu Ing a light and reporting, more click and as generation. If trump was honestly reported without emotion and click bait and outrage, he'd be a joke. Instead the country is.

Interesting that most of the top Mastodon instances are fed rested whereas most other software, they are defederated. I wonder if it is due to how they work. Madrid in can have discussion but it's less focused on that. Lenny has more voting and so more likely to have a consensus that shows all views agreement not just the volume. So, Madrid in would be more susceptible to bad actors simplifying their view, yet the same is possible on all.

Yes, on a personal basis the job losses are devastating. On a societal bssis, they are not.

While self hosted will obviously be better, you have to balance that with simplicity for non tech users.

We use the paid app tinybeans. Doing it now, I'd consider hosting a stability photos folder.

With a police file number and her address and possibly name being used, she might be able to get the company to give her the ip address. Its not a privacy breach of she's the customer.

Then that ip address can be matched to an isp to find the user, police would need to do that. Talking to her current lawyer would help.

Edit: :up to ip

Reakky? I've lived in Australia for 17 years and I've been skyping, now zooming with family all the time. I think my Sony phone from that time had built in Skype.

hitmyspot ,

Lol, I'm literally talking a out having it on my phone in Australia 17 years ago.. That just happened to be my arrival,, not the origin of the tech. Not to mention having the better app on my cimouter. Ads2+l has been a common technology worldwide for more than 20 years too. We don't need nbn to have video chat.

I agree, it's become easier but living overseas has not been a big problem for communication for more than a generation.

I think this could be the phone. https://news.softpedia.com/news/MWC-2008-Sony-Ericsson-W910-Awarded-the-Best-Mobile-Phone-For-2007-78658.shtml

Why does a company that has already achieved it's success need investment? When company potential is how we value society, this is an inevitable end result.

Federation is the future of social media, says Bluesky CEO Jay Graber ( www.theverge.com )

Today, I’m talking to Jay Graber, the CEO of Bluesky Social, which is a decentralized competitor to Twitter, er, X. Bluesky actually started inside of what was then known as Twitter — it was a project from then-CEO Jack Dorsey, who spent his days wandering the earth and saying things like Twitter should be a protocol and not...

He gets shares, which they value at that price now. It’s not a successful social media network. The price may drop once floated. He can’t touch the shares for 6 months. Without being propped up, it may be dead by then, although depending on launch, it may still be viable at that point as the election will still be ongoing. However, if he crashes and burns (jail, insovlency) before then, it could also crash and burn. He’s still in his Icarus phase.

S no, he doesn’t have 3 billion lying around. We also don’t know his debts, which may also be billions.

The were comparing mental state. One is past their prime, one lives in a different reality and has multiple psychological and neurological issues.

A better candidate than Biden would be good. It would be hard to find a worse candidate than trump if you tried.

Ireland should be blue, referencing irish. I assume they are only considering English.

hitmyspot ,

Hey, at least there is a border marked, so not completely forgotten. I imagine it's similar in other countries with more than one language. The main, high or common language vs the local language.

hitmyspot ,

Through the north of the island. Since good Friday agreement, they are two different countries. Republic of Ireland no longer claims northern Ireland.

hitmyspot ,

Indeed, my Welsh Celtic cousin.

hitmyspot ,

Irish officially the first language, constitutionally. English is an official language too.

Irish is learned by all in school, but spoken as a first language by only a few. Most don't retain the school learned Irish.

I imagine it's similar to the level of speaking in Wales and Scotland. However, I think the UK does not have an official language for any of her countries and English is the lingua franca. however, I could be corrected on that, as I recall being told that northern irlend recognizes English, Irish, scots gael and mandarin.

The title doesn't say spoken language, only uses possessive language. So, the less spoken, but constitutionally first language would apply.

hitmyspot ,

I suppose to summarose. Irish is spoken at low levels, but has a higher status than English officially.

Parmesan in mashed potato. Not enough to be cheesy, just for some unami. Also using grainy mustard.

Little bit grated in is all you need. That's the beauty of cooking with flavour enhancers, you can use more or less depending on how you like it.

My husband sometimes uses mayonnaise. If he told me in advance, I'd have turned up my nose at it, but it worked quite well and I only found out after tasting.

Yep, and one more time, and digital love and.....

A New York Times reporter was asked why they consistently frame things as bad for Biden but never bad for Trump. ( old.reddit.com )

"I think what you're reacting to is that, at the moment, Biden is an unpopular president seeking a second term while Trump is a popular figure inside his party who is winning primary races. I wouldn't necessarily compare the two."...

hitmyspot ,

If Hilary was president rather than Trump, millions of people would not have died of Covid. That's good in my book. She may not be a good person, but she would have been a good and effective president.

Manipulation implies what she did was nefarious. Like her opposition, that actively manipulated, conspired with the enemy, against the law, and then started a coup.

hitmyspot ,

If when your only contribution to the discussion is insults, it's clear you cannot even express your opinion. That's such a shame, I'm sure it would be insightful.
