Need ideas for my next Traveller session.

They are still on The (Vargr) Great Hunt. Next stop is collecting rare plants on a swampy, xeno-alligator infested planet.

What are some interesting events or encounters I can throw at them to keep them on their toes?

    Been looking at Faster Than Light: Nomad. It’s got a CC-BY SRD, and looks like a solid system.

    Kind of thinking of a space soldier game. Basically life in the trenches of a 40K guardsmen, or starship troopers. Human with a laser rifle and basic body armor entrenched in a hopeless war on an alien planet. WWI in space.

    But the trick is not to make it too depressing, while not making it heroic as well.

    The line is there, about one hundred meters away, resembling a bright, straight, thin silver hair. It is the only thing visible trough the window curved glass. No even a trace of debris crossing the soft darkness far away.
    If something happens to the artifact it will not be visible until the next orbital pass. Suddenly the darkness begins to slowly devour the line. Something large is casting its shadow from behind.

    Some of you have likely never experienced the purest, truest forms of "RPG as physics engine", like people actually shooting various things to see if the weapon penetration tables are good.

    If you want to bake your noodle, go get the BIG version of GURPS Gulliver for 3rd edition, and enter the world of "Throwing distance modifiers by arm length? Fucking WHAT?"

    If you want ethical AI (and I sure do), consider that it's extremely likely we won't get it until after the current craze implodes and the market bubble washes away; the people running the show have made it clear that's not what they're after.

    Supporting the current awful platforms just delays the day we'll see it get decent.

    If you go to Hasbro.com, hit "newsroom", and hit, "Our perspective on generative AI", you get this. It is, thus, current. It's also very much consistent with the CEO's recent remarks.

    I leave as an exercise for the reader to decide what they think a corporations "respectful use" is worth.

    I just did a "Moebius" search in Google images. Nonsensical AI badly imitating the style is all over the place, what a disaster.

    Quirks of machine learning interpretations of images. The dataset interrogation/inspection of the original 1st edition Advanced Dungeons&Dragons Players Handbook cover, correctly grabs there is a giant monster like face in the background and that the cover is about D&D. But when you take all the phrases and ask it to push out an image based on what it thinks in the image. It makes a more modern godzilla monster, and it actually makes a group of people playing a rpg at a table beneath the monster.

    I added the trade dress manually to the image, for effect.

    Imagine the field day the Satanic Panic group would have had if this were the cover of the PHB in the 80s.

    GM lack of prep

    I have game on Sunday, but have not had time to really plan the adventure. 😅

    They are taking cargo (crates of missiles mostly) from Galegia (independent human) to Okhokferr (Vargr).

    They’ve got a pair of jump 2 ships, so the route is pretty predictable.

    No idea what sort of encounters to run to make it interesting.

    I’ve got nothing on the planets besides UWP.

    The missiles are booby-trapped, or perhaps there's some means of tracking them by any intelligence agency willing to catch any rebels or terrorists.
