I’ve kind of accepted my fate as an organic container that holds plastic.

And balls… don’t forget the balls. Apparently they hold more than just pee these days.

Obligatory defeatist response:

Until it becomes cost effective to reduce the use of plastics, or a personal tragedy of someone close to a big enough decision-maker, the status quo will remain the same.

I am all for finding better ways to tackle sexual assault of any kind. But this is simply too far. As others I. This thread have pointed out: it’s cruel and unusual punishment, and doesn’t address the root of what drives sexual predators.

I’d like to add a new element to the conversation: wrongful convictions. Everyone already knows that going to jail as a child molester is probably going to end up very badly for them. So I could see people choosing castration as the lesser of two evils.

The National Registry of Exonerations found that Texas, despite having some of the toughest laws on crime, led the nation with 363 exonerations in the last 30 years. Other top states based on total numbers of exonerations were Illinois, New York, and California. In Louisiana, which had 63 exonerations in that period, New Orleans is said to be the wrongful conviction capital of the U.S.

Let’s be honest, and this is not just YouTube, but if everyone (from viewers to creators) would just stop using these corporate services, then this wouldn’t be a problem. Go on strike for a few weeks. Find some other non-corporate related service (like peertube).

I get it. A lot of people are deeply entrenched in YouTube. And if that’s going to remain the case, then embrace it. Make it your mantra. Quit bitching about enshittification. Because until everybody stands up and says No collectively, this shit will keep happening and only get worse with each iteration.

We got complacent when we cut the cord with cable. We thought we finally cut the head off the beast. But like any good hydra, it grew two more. And now what? We give up? Fuck that. Stand up and tell them to fuck right off.

Or don’t. Those shiny metal(?) plaques that YouTube gives out sure are pretty.

Yes, which is why you as the employee need to always have a “paper trail”. Make sure everything is written down, either on paper or electronically. After any phone call or in person meeting, make sure you follow up with an email that recaps what you discussed. BCC your personal email to make sure you retain a copy of the communications. Do not trust your employers to keep your email intact.

And never, ever, sign anything when you’re fired. Refuse any “exit interviews”; remember that anything you say can and will be held against you. No matter what your employer says, they absolutely cannot withhold your paycheck because you refuse to sign or interview when you lose your job.

It might also be worth looking up your state’s laws on recording conversations. For example, in North Carolina, you only need one person’s consent to record conversations. And since you’re a part of that conversation, your consent is all you need. So if you have to, record your “one-on-one meetings/phone calls”. But absolutely do not reveal that to your employers.

Wow. The chevrotain is much larger than I imagined it. I love how elegant it moves through the forest and the water. Is it me, or does its tail almost look flat like a beavers? And they use it to help guide themselves under water?

Just kidding. That’s borderline misogynistic. It’s so you can easily roll over and fall asleep after the intense 30-second marathon you just “ran”.

Hydrothermal processes play a crucial role in bringing gold closer to accessible depths. These processes involve the movement of hot fluids through the Earth’s crust, dissolving and transporting minerals, including gold, along the way. These fluids could be molten lava in a volcanic area.

When these mineral-laden fluids encounter cooler conditions or suitable host rocks, they deposit the dissolved gold. This can lead to gold deposits or veins forming in various geological settings, such as quartz veins, which are common hosts for gold. The intricate dance of temperature, pressure, and chemical reactions orchestrates the creation of gold deposits that await discovery.

It’s tricky for sure. For my kids, I try to take any and all wins (no matter the size) and emphasize how it took hard work and practice for them to succeed. I also remind them that even in failure they can learn something for next time. Hopefully it’ll set the right attitude for them. Good luck!

I’m confused. So Macron’s party was democratically voted out by the people? So instead of accepting defeat like any rational person/party would, he decided to call a mulligan and do it all over again? What’s he going to do if they lose a second time?

As an American, I feel like this is somewhat familiar, and would have negative consequences.

Edit: I will admit, I am not as savvy with foreign politics. I jumped the gun, and made an incorrect assumption based on my emotions. For that, I apologize. I do want to thank k those who took the time to explain it to me; I have learned something today, and it’s appreciated.

I stopped shaving my face, and grew a beard. Trying to shave is always bad because I end up with bad razor burn. But I did find that removing those stupid glide strips helped reduce some razor burn.

For my head, I use a Freebird head shaver (the one with 5 heads). I should shave it every day, as it would make life easier. But, I end up doing it every few weeks. Instead of only using my head shaver for 5-minutes, I have to first use my Wahl clippers to get the “long” hair cut short enough for the shaver. This takes up to 30-45 minutes, and I still get razor burn. 😔 FML

You should listen to your medical professional

Yes, and absolutely, No! If you’ve built a rapport with somebody, and you trust them, then yes listen to them. If you feel uncomfortable with them, then get a second (or third) opinion. If you’re ever unsure about why your doctor suggested something, ask them questions. If they wave you off or get offended, then maybe they don’t have your best interest at heart, and are more concerned for their pride.

The point is, you are your only advocate*. If you do not stand up for yourself, no one else will. It’s also important to note that your mind is yours alone. Only you know how you feel, what you think, and can make decisions based on your thoughts. Do your best to convey them to others as you can, but give yourself grace in that you can’t always make people understand you.

* There are always exceptions, and some people cannot advocate for themselves. In my non-medical opinion, OP doesn’t sound like someone who cannot advocate for themselves.

This is what Wikipedia has to say about it:

In Greek mythology, Zeus places his son born by a mortal woman, the infant Heracles, on Hera's breast while she is asleep so the baby will drink her divine milk and become immortal. Hera wakes up while breastfeeding and then realizes she is nursing an unknown baby: she pushes the baby away, some of her milk spills, and it produces the band of light known as the Milky Way. In another Greek story, the abandoned Heracles is given by Athena to Hera for feeding, but Heracles' forcefulness causes Hera to rip him from her breast in pain.

That Zeus. He’s such a character. Not only does he sleep around on Hera (you know, his sister wife), but then surreptitiously tries to get Hera to breast-feed his bastard son. But I digress…

No. Fuck Dean Phillips for even suggesting it. While we’re discussing it, Nixon should have never been pardoned either. It’s not good for the country. We need justice to be served. We were robbed the first time; let’s not make that mistake again.
