Noting that "coverage of the presidential candidates is disparate and dangerous," Dan Rather says,

"A case study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania concluded that 'the choice of the [New York] Times to publish almost three times as many articles about Biden’s age as about Trump pulling the US out of NATO represents a clear example of biased coverage.'"

This, from last year, certainly holds up: Today’s Republican Party is dominated by reactionaries who stand in the political, ideological, and spiritual tradition of the (neo-) Confederacy.

Update on the North Carolina anti-mask bill: The committee has come to an agreement on a compromise bill.

BUT the compromise bill contains problematic language, saying you can wear a mask to "prevent the spread of contagious disease."

This sounds like you can wear a mask if you already have COVID, but not to prevent yourself from getting it.

Masks are a key prevention tool. People should have the right to wear them to protect their own health.

We're so used to this, but I would like academics to take a moment and look at how much of the official and unofficial discussion around university is about despair, imposter syndrome, stress, harassment, etc.

What I often see in these discussions, especially the official ones, is discussion of coping mechanisms and "self-care".

What I rarely see in these discussions is questioning why we've built an education system that treats people this way in exchange for this education. @academicchatter

Although not always a truly free choice to attend Uni (bc of parental and peer pressure), one can simply avoid the “carnage” by not going — right? And what to build instead of the putative carnage factory we now have? I have no clue? Will that new, non carnage educational system cost more, or less?
