Filen automatic background upload

I really want to try Filen as my main cloud provider but my main brake point is that the app doesn't automatically upload my images in the background. I'm not sure if this is because I'm on the free plan or because of my device, has anyone had better luck with the automatic image upload in the background?

I didn't know about that and sounds very good, thanks.

At least it's not a limitation for paying users but it still sucks, thanks for the info.

Thoughts about Posteo?

I've thinking about ditching my Protonmail email address with Posteo since I need IMAP support (because I hate using the Protonmail app) and honestly paying for Proton Mail Plus didn't worth the money because they are pushing me to buy the Protonmail Unlimited but I don't need all those capabilities nor would I use them and the...

And what's your experience? Anything that you want to highlight?

I mean, yeah, but first I need to learn to self-host.

Does the background upload works for you?

Without mentioning that most of the time (and probably depending where you live) you won't find your banking app in there, nor in the Aurora Store usually.

Xirup ,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I live in a Central American country where I simply can't find my banking app in Aurora Store or in APKMirror (or any of those sites), and when I search the app name in Google Play it's there, so I guess it has some kind of logic since the app uses anonymous Google accounts that are probably located in a country where it makes no sense that my banking app is there, I mean, why should my Central American banking app be shown in US for example?

Xirup ,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I suppose in the case where I'm using Google Play with a Google account, the most likely thing is that I'll be able to update without a problem because my account is in the country where the app is located, just that it's using the servers in the country where I live.

In the case of the Aurora store of APKMirror, well, I'm fucked, I guess the only think that I can do is use the website of my bank, that I suppose this will be the case in many banks, the interface and the overall experience is worse than that of the app.

To be honest, is just a shit that many, not to say all banking apps depend specifically on Google to work, it would not be a surprise to me that if I try to install my banking app extracting the APK for myself and then installing it on a deGoogled phone, the app will tell me that it requires Google to work or something like that.

Is it possible that Yiffit will stop being defederated with Lemmy.ml in the future?

I have been an active user of different Lemmy.ml communities for a long time but for personal reasons I want to migrate from Dbzer0 to Yiffit, unfortunately to my surprise Lemmy.ml stopped federating with Yiffit a few months ago and honestly it saddens me because there are communities like c/linux, c/privacy, c/firefox, c/fdroid...

@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Thanks for the information, and I will take it into account.

At what point did I say that I was upset with the decisions made by other instances? I openly said that I respect and agree with the decisions made by the administrators of the instances.

Personally I don't use /all much, I just see the posts of the communities to which I am subscribed and that's all, and I think that's a good point that I hadn't taken into account and thanks for pointing it out, but that's why it especially affects me not to have access to those communities in lemmy.ml, because they have a huge flow of posts that I lose by not being able to access those communities.

Xirup OP ,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I hate politics as well as many people, and just like them, I am constantly exposed to them on Lemmy and especially via /all, I can just block those communities, can't I? Or I can simply not even look for them in the first place because I don't like them and not hate the people who do enjoy them.

Xirup OP ,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I like Yiffit in particular because besides the fact that I'm not just there for the NSFW content, just as there are those who like to constantly check /All, I like to check /Local to see all the posts in the instance without having to manually subscribe to each existing community on Yiffit because I use /Subscribed exclusively to see the communities that I like, so /Local is like a kind of filter for me because I'm not an excessive consumer of NSFW either, there are simply certain artists who create great art and Yiffit is a great place to find artists you didn't know, or see art in general whether SFW or NSFW, not just "watch porn".

I used to use up to 4 accounts at the same time with different feeds so as not to put all my eggs in the same basket but I got to a point where I honestly got sick of it, I really just want when I have free time to scroll through my feed and that's it.

Its really also a good option as you said to maintain this account and subscribe to the Yiffit communities that I like because I have the best of both worlds, or as another user had already recommended to me, I could also perfectly have another exclusive account for Yiffit, but that's what I've been doing for months and I honestly feel tired of having different feeds, but they are completely valid options that I should consider again.

Is it normal for a new lemmy instance to display n+1 registered users on the status page?

I created a lemmy instance and noticed the stats on the index page showed that the instance had 2 users registered, even though only the admin account existed at that point. I created a second account, and now it shows 3 users. However, the database query SELECT name from person WHERE local='t'; only shows only the admin account...

For a moment I think this was a Linux community talking about X.Org.

That's right, but from a user data perspective, Google does not know that you are the one watching the video, so it cannot sell your data.

I know this is a bit offtopic, but on e621(warning: furry site) there is a userscript called Re621 that in the absence of a 'subscription' system allows you to subscribe and creates a kind of notification within the page that notifies you when an artist you subscribed to uploads new art, without the need for an account. Something like this would be ABSOLUTELY GREAT if it existed for Youtube, because I could just export my subscriptions and that's it, if I format my PC I don't lose my recommendations.

Since I can't really help and I don't know if something like this exists for Youtube, I wish it does because I also use Youtube without an account, but something I can suggest you is to use some instance of Piped and create an account (not related to Youtube, it only exists inside the instance) to be able to subscribe and save playlists, but only that in your case, because you will lose the personalized recommendations, you can also use FreeTube and subscribe locally to your favorite content creators there and export it as a backup so that if you were to format your PC, you can remember the names of the content creators to which you were subscribed.

I personally know Ente because of Ente photos, but as far as I know they're pretty trustful and in general I believe that people trust in them, and as far as I know they have not had any scandal or sold out to anyone.

If you want just boot your system and not have to worry about setting up keybindings, my best suggest is ArcoLinuxB i3 Edition and Garuda Linux i3 flavor, you really don't have to worry at all for that, and you can use the i3 reference card to learn the most common keybindigs.

I used to spend an unhealthy amount of hours customizing my desktop (Plasma) just to distrohop and repeat that cycle one million times. Then I just got used to the vanilla state of Plasma, and now I really don't care about that at all.

One more reason to switch to Linux! (It can't run Valorant)

Xirup ,
@Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It may sound silly, but for a lot of people being unable to play games like Valorant, Warzone or League of Legends it's actually a feature and not a bug or a problem.

I honestly think that the best (and also using a FOSS alternative) is to use Librera, available in F-Droid.

Am I running the risk of getting my Google account banned for logging into the Aurora Store or a custom rom like GrapheneOS?

I guess there is no need to introduce what a Degoogled phone is (or a custom ROM without google services, like GrapheneOS is) and the Aurora Store is basically said in a crude way the Google Playstore but without the need to log in to your Google account, quite useful in my opinion....

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I'm very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It's not because I'm not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I'm not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

PollyMC is a Prism Launcher fork but with "offline mode" and works perfectly on my opinion. I recommend downloading the flatpak version as the appimage asks you for certain versions of Java that are easy to install but sometimes gets a little complicated.

And yes, Micro$hit can eat shit. I personally bought Minecraft but on the day I was forced to migrate my Mojang account to a Micro$oft account with the threat that "If I don't do it I'll lose access to my game" I delete my Mojang account and use PollyMC since.

Can Pirate's Bay be considered "safe" if it is used only for non-executable multimedia content?

Basically I want to download a serie in a specific language and absolutely nowhere I can find it and recently I saw that the serie is available in the language I want in The Pirate's Bay but I know the bad reputation of the site and I have never used it....

Good to know! I know it's stupid and not at all the case, but I had read about a virus that ran on an old version of Windows when you open a file because Windows needed to compile the file to open it and the exploit took advantage of a vulnerability in that compiler to rescale to admin permissions, and I think about that when downloaded this serie.

In case anyone is interested in an alternative, I personally use LanguageTool because it is open source and works very well.
