@Nonilex Consumers have choices for AI, and I suspect very few have looked beyond the glitz.

The simplest thing AI can do is to provide research information. What if, and stick with me here, a malevolent actor seized control of the system and modified the protocols and algorithms to put out propaganda and lies.

Does no one except me see this as a problem? I see having ANYONE appointed by Donald Trump in charge, in any way, shape or form of ANY AI enterprise as a serious threat.

@GottaLaff The arrogant Cheese was quite sure he’d played the Georgia DA and would get off with just a fake apology. As in Georgia, these are state crimes, no pardon from the federales and despite how hard they’re wriggling, I don’t think Trumps bought and paid for Supremes will let them off, either. !

A recent report found that Americans have become less likely to go out for a workday lunch, and more likely to eat a brought-from-home lunch at their desks.

Do you go out for a lunch break? And if not, why not?

@rbreich Going “out” for lunch has always been aspirational. Bosses get to do it but wage slaves, not so much, except for an occasional holiday or retirement party. Even in the federal government, the lunch “break” is theoretically only 30 minutes. Theoretically (again) all employees get two fifteen minute “smoke/bathroom” breaks which could be added to the 30 to bring you to an hour, but IF you don’t work in one of those big government buildings w/a cafeteria, you are SOL.

@GottaLaff @GeePawHill May I ask which variety? I am “due”, about 7 months out from last booster. The first however were all Pfizer, with predictably crappy 3 days after each one. The last one was Moderna, and it truly kicked my behind. Ended up with arm swollen, a major temperature, and shaking chills.

I’m thinking of getting Novavax this time.

@GottaLaff War crimes and genocide charges are extraordinarily difficult to prove, more so because the fighting is still going on. Take the case of Croatia and Serbia during what was called the Yugoslav Civil Wars (sometimes the Balkan Wars)about 1991-2000. Afterwards each side accused the other of war crimes. 15 years later the ICJ said neither was. Yugoslav People’s Army was implicated in war crimes in Kosovo. (More)

@rbreich There’s the culture of greed, profits before safety, relying on the notion that because Boeing once put safety first, and had a great margin of safety, they could cut that margin, increase their profits, and still put out planes that were safe.

They cut too many corners, and got rid of too many people who were literally oozing with the culture of safety, replacing them with a crew which espoused the “Good enough” culture.

@tomiahonen There is a galaxy of TrumpoLosses to look forward to but the one I like the best is the fact that Trumpo will be forced to pay cap gains taxes on anything he sells if he decides to go with the cheapest option and anything Tish James sells for him. Bonus? Anything he puts on the market today goes at fire sale rates.

@MikeDunnAuthor Excellent post! Some people volunteer for 10 hours days (typically 4 days one, 3 off). But “work time” doesn’t include commuting time and I think for many, that’s what’s causing the problem. Get paid for a ten hour shift, then commute 90 minutes each way because that’s as close as you can get and still be able to put food on the table.
