Depends, but usually someone between 2300 and midnight.

Vinny_93 ,

Don't think so. When my cat says meow she means "bring on the food pronto"

Vinny_93 ,

Was the posse insane or was it a posse of insane clowns

Vinny_93 ,

That makes sense. But it gets more difficult when posses consist of more than just insane clowns. I suppose when you're talking about a posse of insane clowns, the odds of it containing sane jugglers are pretty small. But when you're talking about an insane posse of nondescript clowns, the posse must consist of at least half plus one insane clowns. The other clowns can be anything in between.

But this is assuming that a posse can only be described as insane if at least half of the posse needs to be insane to make it an insane posse.

Vinny_93 ,

I don't disagree but for the sake of argument I would like to know why this principle applies

Vinny_93 ,

With that attitude this whole discussing will fall apart very quick

Vinny_93 ,

I feel like the one going on about defcon does not know defcon 5 is actually pretty chill

Vinny_93 ,

I work from home and have similar outside interests. Free time can be used to hone a skill, you just need to find something that interests you. For instance, learn a new language, take up reading, writing, some creative outlet like creating music, art etc

Vinny_93 ,

What the actual sh*tnuggets

Edit: I did some further research for different sources and can't seem to find the same article anywhere. I can only find one that says they will use AI to alter hostile tones from call center employees.

Vinny_93 ,

Up until last year I didn't even know people in my country even still had petrol lawn mowers. I wanted to get one of those things that's not even powered, just a rolling blade cage.

Vinny_93 ,

How is Italy in there? Being from Europe I genuinely don't consider Italy a thriving economy at all. I'd figure a Scandinavian country or the Netherlands should be doing better.

Vinny_93 ,

Just the one account. But I don't really use it socially so the Internet strangers can look at all they want.

Vinny_93 ,

Once I've recovered from it all and not tired all the time I suppose I'd fix up the house, gardening, designing intricate sandwiches and cocktails and other drinks, write, play video games, hang out with friends, eat, drink, walk, travel...
But like 5 days a week I'm gonna hang back, chill, watch tv, play video games (I have a huge backlog even though I game plenty).

Vinny_93 ,

It may not have withstood the test of time like Airplane! or Hot Shots!, but this is definitely still one of the best movies in the genre. But to be honest, Cary Elwes carries this entire movie. Dave Chappelle does a decent job but no more than that.

Vinny_93 ,

I remember this song because my sister owned this album. Listened to it a while back and back when it came out I was pretty young so I never noticed. "I'm driving like I'm black" is a wild line.

Vinny_93 ,

If you do home automation you could hook it up to a cable permanently and use it as a Home Assistant dashboard. My brother in law used an old tablet for this.

What do people today act like is new, when it's already have been a thing or already been around? ( kbin.social )

Gamers like to make it sound like $70 is a new thing today for video games. When, I've seen adverts of games back in late 90s and early 90s that were priced $70. It's always been around so I find it ridiculous that so many of them complain that the pricing is too high when, it's been a thing....

Vinny_93 ,

I think the issue with the price thing is that it's more the rule rather than the exception. Back then maybe you got a super deluxe for 70, now 70 just gets you the base game.

In any event: the Apple Vision Pro is one. Apple puts out a VR headset that essentially does what any 800 dollar headset does for much more money and everyone loses their shit saying how revolutionary it is. It's not.

Vinny_93 ,

So, what, she has to be stuffed in the trunk?

Vinny_93 ,

It says only a food, this is cheating

Vinny_93 ,

Not specifically mine but definitely that of my wife: a company called Beurer in Germany makes this little tool with a small ceramic plate that you can heat. Press the hot thing against a mosquito bite and not only does the itch go away, the actual inflammation is diminished. For 20 euros one of the best impulse buys I ever did.

We've also put in an order for an electric bicycle which I think will lead to us leaving the car now often.

Vinny_93 ,

I suffer from eczema pretty badly so I always have some sort of cortisol cream nearby. They clear up any bug bites quickly. Luckily, mosquitos prefer my wife's blood over mine.

Vinny_93 ,

It's the same principle, true enough. But this tool I think reaches higher temps which makes it more effective.

Vinny_93 ,

Evanescence wrote 'Imaginary' in 1999, this is not really an original thought

Vinny_93 ,

We have one big orange neighbour boy who just uses our cat door and eats our cat food. We can him Brian, after the one brain cell.

Vinny_93 ,

Simple. Large game studios have become more about releasing IP content and less about actually creating art. If you look at all those yearly carbon copies EA releases, 2K has to follow suit. Any title that is not aggressively marketed will die a silent death because every genre is oversaturated.

The game industry now consists of just a couple of very big names and thousands of small games that aren't profitable. It's becoming more and more like the music industry.

Vinny_93 ,

Look, if JEDEC standardises it (which they did) it's in everyone's best interest to apply the standard.

The only thing laptop manufacturers have to gain is selling you a new laptop every for years... Oh.

Jokes aside, the LPDDR soldering has always been a cash grab. With efficient cpus and lack of dedicated gpus I doubt the 4W of RAM is really that much of a battery drain. The only reason you would want a laptop to not be upgradeable is because they don't want you to use your laptop for more than 4 years.

I'd say quick turns in the laptop market is good for innovation, but it's absolutely awful for consumers's wallets and e-waste.

I am all for CAMM.

It's the privacy vs convenience problem. For most people, the convenience is so much more important so when you can just use Google to sign in everywhere, you get rid of your passwords remembering issue (oh my god how many people have blamed me for losing their passwords, I'm an IT guy).

Companies want to maximise profits by 'knowing' (ie tracking) their customers so they can tailor their products or services to actual usage. A noble goal? They just want to be more convenient for us.

In the end I guess having an account anywhere and the companies seeing anonimised or aggregated, no personally identifiable records, should not be an issue. But they don't need to keep track of where I live, what my e-mail adress or phone number is and especially need not now any third party stuff.

It has become a very untrustworthy business just because the companies could do whatever they wanted and now that there is more scrutiny, they just find back alley ways to screw us over.

Vinny_93 ,

Read up on Intel QSV. You essentially only need a recent cpu. i3 would do.

Vinny_93 ,

I hear good things about the Intel Arc A380. You basically only need it to convert video and the Intel is not too bad at that for not too steep a price

For people who have psoriasis/eczema/bad skin, how did you get rid of your dandruff?

I've been dealing with dandruff since I was a kid, it's always made me really insecure and always wear a hat. I've tried plenty of different hair products, none seem to work. It's not just my hair on my scalp, it's my beard as well. I'm a 19 year old male (Caucasian), I've been already deciding if I want to go bald or not. I...

Vinny_93 ,

I use a lotion called topicorte prescribed by a dermatologist. Not using it affects my eczema as a whole.

Introducing a new family member is difficult for any cat. They don't like change. Best thing you can do is keep the new kitten apart for a while, like giving them their own room for a few weeks. The older cat should feel like it's 'their' home, new blood upsets the balance of power.

After a while you can reintroduce the kitten. When you pet the new cat, use the same hand to pet the older one. Cats do a lot by smell so mixing their distinct smells will make it easier.

Also make sure the older cat has their own food, their own litterbox and make sure the kitten doesn't take in any of their favourite spots to sleep.

It's hard work, you'd have to constantly pay attention to the lil guy and you can't control what happens when you sleep.

Also kittens need to sleep 22 hours a day but with an older cat around they're gonna wanna harass the older cat to show they mean business.

I would not recommend introducing a new cat to any cat over 2 years of age. At this point best thing you can do is wait it out and hope your old guy improves.

It's important to understand why your cat is not taking to the new one. It's primarily the change in a familiar situation.

Vinny_93 ,

I haven't even seen the fourth one. Don't really see the need to.

How do you manage your headphone cables?

I recently switched from wireless to wired headphones (Samson SR-850, probably the best for the very reasonable price) and my chair's wheels instantly started eating its cable. Right now I'm using a small plastic hook that came with a face mask to keep it off the floor, but I'd like to hear other solutions.

Vinny_93 ,

NZXT Puck. I have 2 which means I have 4 cable holders.

Vinny_93 ,

This is probably because in school you need all these intricate, factually accurate details.

If you can pick and choose which things you actually find interesting it becomes way easier

Vinny_93 ,

Yeah and the other half that doesn't is either dead or so famous that they don't really need the money

Vinny_93 ,

I'm sorry. I'm just absolutely flabbergasted by the Jeph of it all.

Vinny_93 ,

DLSS works on Tensor cores only available to Nvidia. FSR works on anything. This means that DLSS is more specialised and, if implemented in a game properly, will work better.

GSync only works on Nvidia cards and GSync monitors, whilst FreeSync works on FreeSync and GSync monitors with any gpu.

Now ray tracing works on RT cores for Nvidia and I believe AMD have something similar. The key difference with the former technologies is that ray tracing doesn't have an Nvidia or AMD version, the tech is part of the DirectX 12 Ultimate specification. (I think Vulkan has something similar). Both GPU makers use DX12 so they use the same software to apply ray tracing.

The fact of the matter is that the RT cores of Nvidia are more effective than the ones AMD utilises. AMD usually combats that by just adding more cores.

In the end, it all hangs on implementation. In some games, AMD will be better because the game devs have optimised it for AMD GPUs. In most games, Nvidia will be better. I suggest looking up benchmarks for games you play with and without ray tracing.

Essentially the same as when I was in college except when I was in college it was social drinking.
I try to not drink a lot, so sometimes I'll just stop after two or three a day, some days I have none. It basically starts with me not buying alcohol, when I only have expensive wine and stuff I tend not to casually drink.
But I don't drink if I drive, if I work or if I have stuff to do later.

Vinny_93 ,

Same goes for placing a cucumber near them to make them jump.

It's just jerk behaviour to bully your cats into doing something funny.

Vinny_93 ,

I understand how you might feel this way. But a key difference to the early 1930s is that there are many large-scale protests against far right extremism in Germany. The elections in the Netherlands did produce a right wing tendency, but there is no government as of yet and the PVV is still pretty far away from fascism. The other three large winners of the election are not even that right wing. At least no more than the party that ruled for the last 15 years.

That said, I do kinda hope that this phase passes quickly and that people will start to finally get along and care about our fellow humans. Even though we never have.

Vinny_93 ,

In the exact same situation here, but a few months ahead. I was told by a vet that a farting kitten is an indication something is wrong with the diet. Our little girl does both, being really smelly on the box and walking around passing gas. The farting got less over time.

Problem is we also have two older cats so we can't really get specialised food for one. We'd need special food for all three which can get really expensive.

We hope the problem will pass with time, maybe she needs to get used to the diet or something. Maybe at some point she'll prefer doing her business outside and we'll notice it less.
