Well, I guess the physical home release would be the final deadline but would the studio be willing to pay any more money at this point?

Batgirl directors lend sympathy to Coyote vs. Acme ( www.joblo.com )

When Warner Bros. Discovery dropped an anvil on Coyote vs. Acme, it was like Batgirl all over again --- except it might have been an even bigger blow. While it's up for serious questioning as to whether or not Batgirl was truly "unreleasable", Coyote vs. Acme was by most accounts looking to be a pretty darn good movie. Now, the...

Wow! This one has been in development for a very long time. I remember when it was going to be directed by John Woo!

I feel like the producers of the original film think they have a small cash cow as they have been behind every film since including this one. Although this film has taken over a decade to get to this point.

This reminds me of a podcast I listened to recently where they revealed someone tried to make a film of The Far Side cartoons. From the sounds of it, it was literally the cartoons realised in live action. There was even a test shoot and you can find a couple of photos online. Obviously the project was canned.

No idea how that film could've worked.

I was amazed to find out that after throwing a steam train off a cliff for the previous film, almost the entire thing was replaced digitally. The live action footage was used for reference.
Don't get me wrong, if I'd never seen the vfx breakdown, I'd probably never know. It's some amazing work by ILM.

I like the minifigs, but not impressed with the tree.

I first saw this film when I was way too young with my Dad. I made it through the chestburster scene, but the tension with Brett in the wet/chains room put me over the edge. I had to stop watching and left the room. My Dad found it funny and asked what am I afraid of, “it's all rubber and slime”.

I feel sorry for these poor kids from 1979. The parents are bonkers. Taking them to R rated films because they love horror and the other excuse about “it could be all true”! Okaaay.

I was a sucker for these fmv games back in the day. The more CDs the game came on the better. Bonus for lots of recognisable actors too.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at 40: Spielberg’s hit-and-miss relic ( www.theguardian.com )

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom begins with an action sequence that’s almost exactly 20 minutes long, starting with a show-stopping east-meets-west rendition of Anything Goes at a Shanghai nightclub in 1935 and ending in the whitewater rapids at the foot of the Himalayas. For the director Steven Spielberg, whose Raiders...

So The Guardian are shitting on another beloved film for clicks and eyeballs. I remember when they did this about Shrek, too.

Whenever I post in the Tron community, there are people already writing off the upcoming film just because he's in it.

I understand people have opinions, but I like to watch the finished film before making them. :-)

Way back when, Pixar were going to make a film called Newt. It was about two rare species of Newt, one of each gender, who needed to mate to save their species. Unfortunately, the female couldn't stand the male. For whatever reason, they escape the lab and have an adventure.

Apparently this was around the time Rio was released and the stories were apparently too similar. (I haven't seen Rio, do I don't know), so the project was canned.

It's a shame as I really liked the concept art which can be found online and I really liked the style.

In fact, newt makes two small tiny cameos in other Pixar films.

Edgar Wright In Talks For "Barbarella" - Dark Horizons ( www.darkhorizons.com )

Beloved British filmmaker Edgar Wright (“Hot Fuzz,” “Baby Driver”) is in talks to direct the new “Barbarella” at Sony Pictures. In addition, Jane Goldman and her daughter Honey Ross are also in talks to write the script for the project which is still in the early development stage. Jane Fonda famously played the...

I'm sure when I was a lad there were only two types of trailer, or at least the ones I remember. First there was a teaser trailer that would only last for about a minute and was quite coy in what to reveal. Although in fairness, that's probably because there wasn't enough footage ready to make a trailer, especially if it contained special effects elements.

The second trailer would later arrive, two minutes at most, containing special effects shots, and it would give you an idea of the film without revealing too much.

What have we got now? The entire film in three minutes to make sure everyone comes to see the film. I don't, I feel like I've seen it and have no plans on watching it now. cough The Fall Guy cough

Instead, we get this over and over again.

You've reminded me of The Force Awakens teaser trailer. Only a few shots of the main characters with no idea of the story at all.

This also carries on to the next 2½ minute trailer with no clues to the story really. I thought they were well done.

UKFilmNerd OP Mod ,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

I did wonder about the trailer, was it the whole plot or just the start of the film. It's a bit of a gamble.

The problem with those videos is that they're designed for the YouTube advert system. Show the big moments to get them interested and then they sit and watch the ad/trailer rather than skip it.

It looks odd when you're viewing it separately though.

In the beginning, it was a mix of LiftOff! and Jerboa. The dev of LiftOff! had twins and understandably, he hasn't returned and the app has fallen to the wayside.

So I tried Thunder (available on Android and iOS) and it's been really good, lots of regular updates and features as well.

B-Movie King Roger Corman Dead At 98 - Dark Horizons ( www.darkhorizons.com )

Did you know, it was Roger Corman who told a young writer that if he could write a Mad Max rip off, he would let him direct it. The writer, Peter Radar, wanted to be a director and came back with a script he wrote called Waterworld. Corman liked the script but said, “Are you out of your mind? This would cost us three million...

Honestly, I was slightly let down by the experience fidelity-wise. Because of the CGI used, many elements were blurry here and there and because of the composite shots combining real elements with CGI, there were some moments where for example Jar Jar Binks would be blurry but the background would look normal. Also there were these weird pixelated colored dots that'd appear onscreen every five minutes or so.

But hey the audio was fine and the movie is WAY better than I remember.

I haven't seen this theatrical re-release but I saw it when it opened back in '99. There was no way it could live up to the hype of a brand new Star Wars film after about 16 years.

I bought the DVD and watched it a couple more times and then forgot about it. I bought the Blu-rays in late 2020, and watched the prequel trilogy again for the first time in over a decade.

I think Phantom Menace held up the best, possibly because the healthy amount of practical work. The CGI of the sequels hasn't held up so well.

My review of the Episode one from 2020.

Sylvester Stallone's Rocky origin story is punching its way onto the silver screen with Peter Farrelly directing ( www.joblo.com )

A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role. The...

I could just cheat and say, check out my blog. 😁

I watched more films, but I don't review every one I watch. So far in May, I have reviewed:

Titan A.E. — A Don Bluth (Space Ace, Dragon's Lair, The Secret of Nimh) animated space adventure. Unfortunately, it's just meh.

Rebel Moon: The Scargiver — I know these films get a lot of bashing and hate, but I've really enjoyed them. Looking forward to the R rated extended cuts too.

Beowulf & Grendel — Gerard Butler in an adaptation of the classic poem. Not a bad film, but the 'making of' documentary was more interesting than the film itself.

Terminator Salvation - I love the Terminator franchise but after Judgement Day, the quality starts to fluctuate. I decided to give this another watch and see how I felt about it. Probably haven't seen it since I bought it on Blu-ray over a deade ago.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire — Here's my Letterboxd review. I enjoyed it, not quite as much as the original, but it is really a set-up for the next film.
