@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

You can't really compare budgets to older films due to inflation but I get the point that the budget does seem excessive.

Has somebody just watched Linus Tech Tips 😁? They've recently done two videos where they pull apart scenes likes this.

How did they ignore time travel? Cruise only time travels when he dies and he stopped doing that about halfway through.

A great film and it's a shame a sequel never materialised. We did however get this reunion for a charity auction in 2017.

Hooray, more pop culture references!

UKFilmNerd Mod , to movies in can we talk about how derivative the new aquaman was?
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

I watched the original but during the big end battle, because it was all underwater, I wasn't sure who was doing what. After that, didn't take need to see the sequel.

I'm not sure where to implement it, but something featuring Kryten.

“Go to alert!”
“Are you absolutely sure, sir? It does mean changing the bulb!”

Or failing that, maybe an error that is contained in a quoted Space Core Directive?

UKFilmNerd Mod , to movies in How 1989's Batman Made Tim Burton A Box Office Superhero - SlashFilm
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

1989, the gold and black Batman logo was everywhere. It was the film that made me a Batman fan as well. Also, my grandfather misread the poster and thought it was a mouth with weird gold teeth. 😁

If you want to go really in depth, check out the podcast, “BEST MOVIES NEVER MADE” by Stephen Scarlata & Josh Miller. In particular this episode which is the first part of four where they run through all the scripts they could find which lead up to the 1989 final film.

With regard to breaking even, I was just recalling what I found on a small article about the film. So who knows what it would really need to break even? Double sounds more realistic though.

Del Toro was incredibly close to shooting an adaptation of At The Mountains of Madness in 2011, when Universal shut the project down. They decided they weren't going to risk a $150m budget on an R rated for film which would probably need about $500m to break even.

A couple of years ago Del Toro shared a thirty second clip of pre-viz by Industrial Light and Magic. Another film to add to list of what couldn't been.

Industrial Light & Magic kept their original locations a secret, as they didn't want Star Wars fans rummaging through their trash for bits of models.

UKFilmNerd Mod , to movies in [Meta] Do you have ideas for a new icon and banner?
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

I had to log in into the default web UI to see what it was on my PC, but it's great. Perfect for the sub. By default, I use phtn.app to browse lemmy on my laptop, and the icons are on the small side.

However, on my phone using Thunder, it looks great too.

UKFilmNerd Mod , to movies in Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez clarifies new movie's timeline
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

I love sci-fi and Alien doesn't feel like a gory horror film. There's flashes of gore but it doesn't bother me.

The director's first film was The Evil Dead remake. I love the original three films but I couldn't even make it through the red band trailer of that remake. 🤢
