Color photograph of one of the exterior facades of the University of Iowa School of Music (Voxman Building). The facade's surface is paneled and made up of vertical and diagonal elements. The vertical lines of each panels are made up of slender grey, brown-grey, brown, and black panels that change colors each time they cross a diagonal element. Each panel is framed by three-dimensional, vertical support columns as well as the three-dimensional diagonal elements. Both the vertical and diagonal framing are the dark grey color. The photo was take at an oblique angle. In reality, the diagonal elements are actually horizontal.

    A common scene this time of year along the trail at #TerryTrueBlood Recreation Area.

    In fact, I believe this is my third year in a row for catching a photo of a dickcissel singing its heart out atop a color-coordinated mullein inflorescence.

    Photograph of a singing dickcissel perched at the top of a mullein inflorescence with out of focus green foliage in the background. The dickcissel is facing left leaving one eye visible. Its beak is opened in song and its weight bends the mullein spike to the left. Based on its coloring this may be a female of the species. This bird has grey abdomen feathers, brown wings, back, and tail feathers with dark bars and mottling, a bright yellow chest with grey on either side, a white neck with a slim black outline, a grey cap with a yellow mask across the eyes, a grey cheek with a yellow patch on the lower cheek, dark eyes, a silver-grey beak, and brown legs and feet. This variety of mullein produces a flower spike that towers above the plant. The flowers have five yellow, overlapping petals that form a shallow cup around the yellow center.

    Extreme closeup photograph of a great spangled fritillary butterfly with closed wings standing on a horizontal green leaf with out of focus green leaves in the background. The butterfly is facing slightly to the right with its head near center frame and the upper portion of its upper wing mostly out of frame. Great fritillary butterflies have orange bodies covered in fine orange hairs, six orange legs, two large, orange, compound eyes with darker spots, and two orange antennae. They have large orange upper and lower inner wings with cream-white spots outlined in black, black spots and striping, and orange colors that range from almost tangerine to burnt-orange.

    Extreme closeup of a leafcutter bee flying in between the pink petals of an Asiatic lily with out of focus petals in the background. The bee's back legs and abdomen are covered in a large amount of orange pollen that it has just collected from the lily. This leafcutter species has similar features to honeybees with a yellow and black striped abdomen, a dark thorax and head covered in fine hairs, two antennae, three simple eyes on the forehead, and two compound eyes facing forward, six legs, and transparent wings with dark veining.

    A gold and purple iris in my friend's garden. I never really paid attention to iris beards before and didn't realize they has such amazing color patterns.

    This flowering bush is along a route to a friend's house. It's populated by a small flock of house sparrows pretty much yr round & I catch a lot of sparrow pics there. Don't know that I've seen it in bloom before but appears to be a type of spiraea.

    One of those flowering shrubs that has tiny little white flowers that look lovely but are far more delicate & intricate when you take a closer look.

The clouds are somewhat thin and the sun is very bright and forms a bright quarter disk in the clouds in the upper right frame. The seed head is highlighted from behind creating bright highlights around the circumference of the fuzzy head and creating dark shadows in the seed head center where the dark, heavily textured seeds radiate from from the flower head. A great deal of the photo is in shades of grey except for the bloom's green sepals and stem and subtle rainbow colors where the sunlight is refracted by the fuzzy exterior which is made up of fine filaments.

Waxwings have red "wax" on the tips of some of its wing feathers and yellow wax on the tips of its tail feathers. The "wax" varies by bird and bird age and is caused by the accumulation of organic pigments that come from its mostly fruit diet.
