Image of a cottontail rabbit sitting in a small field of short, green grass or lawn. The rabbit is facing the camera with its head turned left and down. The rabbit has raised its right rear foot to touch its down-turned muzzle giving the impression that it is smelling its rear foot. Cotton-tail rabbits have brown fur with white mottling and a white, cotton-ball-like tail. Cottontails have typical rodent features (large, whiskered muzzles, large eyes, larger back feet, etc.) with the exception of their ears which are proportionally larger/longer than other rodents.

    This is common hepatica or liverwort (Anemone hepatica aka Hepatica americana seems likely). It is a native to woodlands in the Northern Hemisphere. I found this little clump last spring along a woodland trail and it was my first encounter with the species. I think it's just delightful and hope to see it again this spring.

The flower are at the end on long, dark brownish purlple stems that seem to be extending from the same plant. The plants sepals are also dark brown-purple. Common hepatica flowers have lobed, pale purple-pink petals that radiate from a center filled with white stamens with white anthers and a green pistil.

    I mentioned this past week that we may have two active eagle nests this year. I've known about one nest for three years now but last year on the trail people kept telling me about another location. I finally found it👇 and plan on monitoring both this year as much as I can to be on the lookout for chicks. Typically, I see eagles around the nest when the nest is being used so this pic is a good omen👍.

The nest is made up of large branches and is wide and deep enough for the eagle to fit comfortably with plenty of room to spare. Adult eagles are typically around two and a half feet tall with a wingspread of six to seven feet. Just a guess but the nest looks as though it may be roughly four to six feet wide and four to six feet tall. Bald eagles have brown body feathers, white head and tail feathers, clear, light yellow-green eyes with large pupils, yellow-orange beaks that curve downward to a point, yellow-orange legs, and yellow-orange feet that end in sharp black talons.

    My primula is setting tons of blooms since I've been dead-heading. New plants are a struggle until I find the best watering schedule. I use really well draining soil because I tend to overwater. The primula has dried out too much a couple of times due to that. It one of THOSE plants with the paradoxical best-practices guideline "Primula's like wet soil but not TOO wet."🤷‍♂️

    Bumblebee on purple coneflower.

    Closeup image of a bumblebee atop the center of a purple coneflower. The bee is facing right with one eye visible. Purple coneflowers have purple petals that radiate from a center containing tricolor florets. Only the flower's florets are visible and each floret is green at the base, orange in the center, and deep red at the tip. This species of bumblebee (likely the brown-belted species) has a black abdomen covered in fine, black hairs, a "belt" of brownish hairs where the abdomen meets the thorax, a thorax covered in fine, yellow hairs, a black head covered in brown-black hairs, two large compound eyes and three, small simple eyes, two short antennae, large mandibles and pointed proboscis, and six legs with long hairs on the hind legs used to store gathered pollen.
