Democrats catastrophize, Democrats listen to their opposition and take their concerns seriously, Democrats take criticism (from the right, not from the left) seriously and adjust and respond (this would be a good trait were it more balanced.)

Stop it. Simply claim it was the best debate ever, best debate performance ever. Highest energy Biden we'd ever seen. Say it over and over and move on. That is how the Republicans would do.

Sometimes ya'll are too honest for your own good.

@futurebird This is a very insightful tweet.

But it also completely illustrates the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

And you're demanding they act like Republicans who deliriously embrace any lie that makes them feel better.

I completely understand your point of view and your frustration. But it's a bit like asking a cat to be a dog. I don't think it's going to happen.

OK, Biden had a bad debate. He was run over by a Gish gallop. He should have been prepared for this, but he wasn't. "During a Gish gallop, a debater confronts an opponent with a rapid series of specious arguments, half-truths, misrepresentations, and outright lies in a short space of time, which makes it impossible for the opponent to refute all of them..."

There are good ways to counter, a Gish gallop.

@mastodonmigration The media's appetite for a feeding frenzy of negativity dwarfs every other aspect of their function in a democracy now.

I’ve voted. Because the postal ballot arrived so late, I’m going to have to courier it to the UK. 🇬🇧 worth it at twice the price to see this foul, cruel, incompetent and corrupt Tory government go down to an historic defeat. #Vote #ukelection

I can understand if you feel disengaged or disenchanted with politics. But please vote. Vote in memory of the millions of people whose lives were made miserable under these fuckers. Vote in memory of the many elderly people who were discarded like so much garbage during the pandemic. Vote to honour the disabled people who have been demonised as slackers.

Let these fuckers know you won’t tolerate the society of cruelty the created.

The day after my ant presentation students and teachers kept coming up to me and saying how much they liked it. One teacher even asked her if I could show her how to get started keeping ants. She has a pet spider and is now curious about what it's like to have a colony!

I'm so happy!

@futurebird You are, without a doubt, amazingly cool.

Does sci-fi shape the future? Tech billionaires from Bill Gates to Elon Musk have often talked about the impact of novels they read as teens, from Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" to Iain M. Banks' "Culture" series. Big Think's Namir Khaliq spoke to authors including Andy Weir, Lois McMaster Bujold and @pluralistic about how much impact they think science fiction has had, or can have.

@CultureDesk @cstross @pluralistic @bookstodon too bad they didn’t embrace the hope inherent in most of it

Let me get this straight

A global conspiracy, involving every country on earth for 40+ years in order to spread mind-control chemicals from planes is real

Yet climate change is false

Hey Republicans from The South: ever wonder why no one takes y’all seriously?

@flexghost Well, on a positive note, at least all the paranoid psychotics in the world are identifying themselves with gusto.

It is their absolute certainty that gives them away.

Us neurotics... we're willing to entertain the possibility but have our doubts

Remittancegirl ,
@Remittancegirl@mstdn.social avatar

@flexghost no, not at all.

@flexghost I would never make an assumption on the structure of your unconscious, my dear.

And each of them have their positives and negatives.

We're all mad in our own very singular ways.

"As public awareness of the term 'Christian nationalism' grows alongside well-executed social science research, the mobilization of those who feel threatened by such attention results in one of two responses:

  1. 'Christian nationalism doesn’t exist and is just a made up term from those who want to keep religious Americans from bringing their faith into the public sphere',"

@wdlindsy how ironic is it that an atheist like me feels freer and more equal in a purportedly Catholic country like Spain that most atheists do in the US - a country established on the premise of religious tolerance?

"Racist pseudo-science is making a comeback thanks to Elon Musk. Recently, the tech billionaire has been retweeting prominent race scientist adherents on his platform X (formally known as Twitter), spreading misinformation about racial minorities’ intelligence and physiology to his audience of 176.3 million followers—a dynamic my colleague Garrison Hayes analyzes in his latest video for Mother Jones."

@wdlindsy There are very few people I genuinely wish would rot in hell very soon, but he's one of them.

Every time I see him interviewed, I get squicked. There is something so profoundly wrong with that man.

This is a new low in a series of them for this .

This case shouldn’t have even been heard — it’s below the dignity of the institution.

“Is POTUS an all-powerful god king?”

Easy answer: NO! Not “we’ll hear arguments in 2 months, even though we all know how we will vote”

Exactly this. I am sure they will not grant him immunity - and they know it already.

They just want to dunk their dicks in the water for posterity, and don't care that doing so will rob the US voter of the ability to make an informed decision in November.

They're despicable. They could have granted cert and denied the stay, too, but they didn't. Because they literally don't give a fuck about the country they were appointed to serve.
