@GottaLaff TBH, I think how they’ll vote is up in the air after this.
As Judge Luttig said on Deadline Whitehouse today: They could very easily rule #DefendantTrump has immunity in the narrow confines of the J6 indictments.
@GottaLaff@Joe_Hill
That was always the trickiest bit - the interpretation of Marbury they hung their defense on is WRONG. But I never felt it was rebutted as I, a stickler for precise language would have. But that's just me, a dumb engineer, not a legal eagle.
@GottaLaff The thing that puzzles me is; SCOTUS, knows that dictators will take power AWAY from the courts. Seems to me that the body that should be fighting Trump the hardest is SCOTUS.
@GottaLaff
One the other hand, the Presidential immunity case serves as a historical “loyalty to the Constitution” test for all the #scotus Justices. There is no legitimate reason for ruling for immunity and everyone knows this.
@GottaLaff I am losing faith in our country to do the right thing. The orange one has corrupted everything! I need to step away from the news, but it’s in your face 24/7.
@GottaLaff I keep thinking about Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation. Her husband and daughter so proud they were crying- and now it’s all just crap. Sorry- not very eloquent.
@GottaLaff Just woke up to this awful news. Even with my low opinion of the current SCOTUS, I am so so disappointed. What the hell do they think they’re doing??! It is so blatantly partisan, they lose whatever tiny bit of credibility they had.
@GottaLaff They may not be god kings, but they think they act on his behalf. "Courts recognize their authority is granted by God, and God, not the state or any government established by man, is the source of all their rights. You think that it is more important that they follow the rules you have. You are hypocrites!" https://robertvanwey.substack.com/p/contempt-of-court
Good news: if Trump wins this immunity thing, President Biden can use that new presidential power to refuse to cede the WH to Trump, should the unthinkable happen in November.
@GottaLaff The whole system of procedural democracy that has been created from the start with aim to prevent Almighty Kings from ever happening, have 2 common bugs.
The Myth of Holy Legal Processing created the new Almighty King everyone must obey to - The Supreme Count.
The Myth of Ideal Parliamentarian created prime ministers whose total terms never limited in the laws or constitutions, which created cases like Merkel and Orban who rule for decades with consequences worse every year.
@GottaLaff besides the SCOTUS decision which could break America in general, I have mixed feelings about delayed trial. Actually keeping it going without decision might not be that beneficial to orange ball.
Fact that they take arguments makes me nervous but this is America on the edge of civil war. It is what it is.
@GottaLaff if the scotus sides with him then any president can do the same - it's just idiocy to think that no one is above the law but then I remember, it truly is a confederacy of dunces.
Exactly this. I am sure they will not grant him immunity - and they know it already.
They just want to dunk their dicks in the water for posterity, and don't care that doing so will rob the US voter of the ability to make an informed decision in November.
They're despicable. They could have granted cert and denied the stay, too, but they didn't. Because they literally don't give a fuck about the country they were appointed to serve. #Scotus
@GottaLaff
Sounds like they would love to kick the can down the road past election day, and in their wet dreams are hoping that he wins, and maybe gets to appoint another crony to the court.
@GottaLaff I keep hoping for a @Teri_Kanefield post telling us not to worry and that it’s not really as legally bad as we think it is- because I sure can’t think of an adequate reason for them to pick up this case.
@GottaLaff@emptywheel No time, Laff, sorry. Busy welcoming every last one of the “wheels of justice” MSNBC pundits on the second hour of Nicolle today on board my ship, headlined by the lovely Ms. McQuade. This inevitable outcome was only entirely 💯 forseeable, so I’ll take no credit, but to believe or hope any of these trials will happen before the election now is grounds for permanent involuntary commission.
@GottaLaff
Great episode on podcast 5-4. On the case agai st Nixon on this very question. But we know these corrupt fanatics don't let the law get in the way of their shitty rulings with Sotomayor and KJB being the exceptions
