Having spent several summers living with dirt daubers, they don't build nests in the ground, they build them right above your bed. Which I'd be fine with (cause they really never bother anyone) if they didn't decide to do it at 6 AM SOUNDING LIKE AN ELECTRIC DRILL.

MicrowavedTea ,

I've finished mario kart in 4 different platforms. Not exactly hard but it does take some time so I'll consider it an achievement.

Auto-translate?

I see a lot of feeds in other languages that I don’t know (I are a merican so i just know the two - baseball and cursing.). But I’d be very interested if there was some kind of babelfish auto-translation for the other posts so I could see what they were about - does anything like that exist or is there any known effort...

MicrowavedTea ,

I know it was just an example but is there an actual advantage in using chatgpt over a translation service, say DeepL?

MicrowavedTea ,

I've always wanted to try this but is there a privacy implication? I guess it connects to an openstreetmaps account, which will then keep a public history of all the places you've been.

MicrowavedTea ,

Yeah it's the public part I meant. All changes would be shown under a single account.

MicrowavedTea ,

I don't know what brown sauce is but of the other two definitely mustard. Can we add chilli sauce to the list though? That's what I put on everything.

MicrowavedTea ,

It depends on the kind. Pretty sure there are chili sauces without tomato.

MicrowavedTea ,

Nvm, I can't read

MicrowavedTea ,

English-learning books call those phrasal verbs and there are entire chapters focused on them. I remember them as the most hated part of English lessons.

MicrowavedTea ,

I do have a license but refuse to drive. I guess the main reasons would be:

  • I get lost very easily and navigating while driving is much harder (no stopping, turning around etc)
  • You can't entirely zone out or use that time to do something else like reading so if it's a daily commute this is just lost time
  • Road infrastructure here is terrible. I actually find it much safer to drive at night because at least you can see the headlights of cars coming out of blind intersections
  • Just like there are (many) places you can't go without a car, there are also places you can't go with a car because there is no parking, mainly the city center, which is the place I visit the most

You also can't drive drunk and I kinda like drinking.

MicrowavedTea ,

You can't always put on more clothes. If your hands or face are cold you can't exactly walk around with a ski mask and bulky gloves on.

MicrowavedTea ,

That depends on your body though. I never get sunburns and while 30C is warm but comfortable, anything under 5C is actually painful. So I don't get winter fans either.

MicrowavedTea ,

I wouldn't call that hell either tbh but if your winter is 15C there isn't much excuse to wait for summer.

MicrowavedTea ,

I prefer warmer weather like 25-30C but that causes most places to turn up air conditioning. 20-25C is the best so you don't have to carry around extra clothes.

MicrowavedTea ,

Swallow pills. It takes 3-4 tries every time for the smaller ones.

MicrowavedTea ,

I haven't had to take one in a while but I'll probably try this or simply try without water next time.

MicrowavedTea ,

Probably when not paying attention. But also, sometimes I chew soup if there's rice or other small things in it :p

MicrowavedTea ,

Something that comes up a lot but probably can't be made open source is a wallet app. But if we ignore the payments part, Google wallet has some really nice features when dealing with plane tickets which I'd love to see in a standalone open source app.

MicrowavedTea ,

Came here to say Brașov. Apart from being really beautiful (I went in summer) I was surprised at how walkable it was. Romania is good in that regard in general but Brașov was seriously fun to walk around.

MicrowavedTea ,

I feel this is mostly the case with short stories (and a lot of those works were short stories). Where there isn't enough material for a full movie, the writers are free to add more to the story without messing much with the original. DADOES did have enough material but the movie decided to go a different direction while keeping the main theme. I wouldn't say one is better than the other in this case as they're pretty different.

MicrowavedTea ,

When it comes to card art definitely Dixit. When I Dream also has really nice illustrations (and is pretty fun too).

MicrowavedTea ,

Maybe you could post in !books too? There are many subscribers but not much traffic.

MicrowavedTea ,

I can bring my hands from the back of my body to the front (and the opposite) while holding them together. There might be a use for this if I ever get tied up.

MicrowavedTea ,

You mean that isn't normal? Well TIL

MicrowavedTea ,

The question is, is there a practical difference between lucid dreaming and dreaming about being lucid? I like to think it's the memory afterwards that counts.

MicrowavedTea ,

At periods when playing a lot of geoguessr I often catch myself looking at license plates and street signs when walking on the street, as if trying to figure out where I am.

Also years after I stopped playing assassin's creed, I still get a mental image of a red outline when I walk too close to a cop.

MicrowavedTea ,

Yeah don't worry, this is pretty bs. The only one that's kinda accurate is number 4 but with outstretched fingers, not stuck together. And even that is slowly being fazed out in favor of the middle finger.

MicrowavedTea ,

Probably not very popular, I miss the culture of r/morbidquestions that was the place to go for most weird topics without much judgment.

MicrowavedTea ,

If you want more there's also this site with pretty much every lacing technique that exists https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace

MicrowavedTea ,

Usually not and I always found it weird. In the rare occasion a smartphone appears in a dream it's always impossible to use, like nothing works correctly. I actually had a dream today where I was lost and Google Maps was giving some very bad instructions.

Strangely enough I don't think I've ever dreamt of a computer even though most of my day is spent in front of one.

MicrowavedTea ,

That's pretty cool tbh

MicrowavedTea ,

Technically there is Samsung Pay and Garmin Pay. But Samsung is not exactly better than Google and Garmin Pay sadly requires a Garmin watch.

MicrowavedTea ,

It's not a weird animal but cats. Stray cats are literally everywhere and aren't afraid of people so many will stop to pet them. And on the other hand, when visiting other countries, the lack of street cats does strike me a bit weird.

MicrowavedTea ,

Greece but pretty sure it applies for Turkey too

MicrowavedTea ,

I don't know what happens with dogs (there aren't that many strays) but most street cats were never pets, they've always been free. There is an effort to reduce them that's definitely failing.

Hey i just wanna know are raccoons evil in some kind of way ?

A lot of things i thought were cute and nice like dolphines, ducks, cats (i saw one cat eat anothers new born), dogs (multiple cases of eating dead owners due to a variety of reasons starting from trying to wake em up to other malicious reasons), hamsters etc turned out to be wrong . Raccoons are the only thing i believe in...

MicrowavedTea ,

What the others said, animals aren't "evil". But I'm curious now, what did hamsters do?

MicrowavedTea ,

I know I shouldn't but I laughed. Thanks, I'll now keep thinking about this every time a kid says they want a cute hamster.

MicrowavedTea ,

If you've come across the short story Guts at some point, it's apparently part of the book Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. I haven't read the whole book so not sure what the other stories are like but this story is really trying to be both gross and fucked up.

MicrowavedTea ,

I looked it up again when writing this comment and even though most reviews are negative they do make it sound pretty interesting. I've put it in a maaaybe list.

MicrowavedTea ,

Not sure if I'd call Area X fucked up but if you liked it definitely take a look at Borne (same author). It mixes the weirdness of area x with bioengineering and much more relatable characters.

MicrowavedTea ,

Yeah the second book was probably more disturbing, then the third went a bit off the rails. I should probably reread them at some point. I don't remember what happened to Control but the Psychologist's ending was pretty disturbing too.

MicrowavedTea ,

Alternative representation, more like a binary tree

MicrowavedTea ,

Qué te pareció la serie? La verdad, no me gustó mucho ese libro pero estoy pensando en verla.

Linking Fediverse identities

When posting from Lemmy in my profile I can look for all of my posts but when I reply to a comment from, let's say, a Mastodon account is not shown as my post because it was created from another account. Is there any way to link my accounts, at least in Lemmy, to show that all posts from a different account belong to the same...

MicrowavedTea ,

It also seems like mastodon follows a "named" culture while lemmy an anonymous/pseudonymous culture. Similar to twitter and reddit. It doesn't feel right to mix those

MicrowavedTea ,

Using Eternity and can confirm, I have the same behavior. But when going to the user's profile there is an option on the three dots menu to send a private message which seems to work (but I didn't click send).

MicrowavedTea ,

Did you get the card online? Or do you have to actually go to Kentucky to get their library card?
