MechanicalJester ,

Again? I have a lovely quilt made by my great grandmother out of sack cloth.

MechanicalJester ,

Sometimes.
You cannot go to a store and buy the freshest, most mouth watering and delicious fruits because they cannot handle being shipped even locally.

A warm, juicy peach right off the tree is an amazing experience.

Also, you know 100% of what what was and what wasn't done to your stuff.

That said, I don't have the time or will to grow all my own veggies that I like daily.

I can, however make enough other stuff that's saleable so I can afford fresh veg year round.

MechanicalJester ,

Haha no.

The fruit will not travel.

Some produce has to be enjoyed immediately or preserved immediately.

If you mean at the farm where it came from then sometimes.Youd have know when it was picked.

The best sweet corn is heated, not cooked, within minutes of picking at peak quality.

MechanicalJester ,

Some things are ridiculously easy to grow in some places and we should for exactly that reason.
It's like drinking bottled water when you have an amazing spring in your backyard of great tasting clean water.

The art of what now?

MechanicalJester , (edited )

What's wild to me is that this the life that baby dinosaur grew up to be.
AGAIN

MechanicalJester ,

throws a Timex at you
What a weird request. Now what? What?

MechanicalJester ,

See now. It's funny that you say that because George actually had raised 43.7 million in campaign funds by selling specifically chocolate bars. Unfortunately, just as he was taking the money to the bank, he was robbed by a traveling band of Jewish Nazi members of Hezbollah sent by Joe Biden.

MechanicalJester ,

It's an ingredient that I overuse to spice things up.

MechanicalJester ,

Right? Or prehensile tails and yodel like the Swiss do when you carefully crush their nuts in a vice?

MechanicalJester ,

We only send the death row frogs to classrooms. They know what they did, and they deserve it.

Frogs are wonderful! You'd say
Frogs are helpful! You'd exclaim

Well you know why they're all so fucking nice?
Because the bad ones answer to US, The International Law Enforcin Frog Clobberers

You're welcome!

MechanicalJester ,

They need a small greenhouse for it.
Leave it where it is, put weed block down 8'x8'
Get 3 45deg top fittings for fence rail pipe 10' long
2 8' 2x4 boards

Make tall triangle greenhouse using the pipes for the 6 legs 4 feet apart.

Use the 2x4s on the inside to hold the pipe spacing and structure

Cover in greenhouse plastic.

Go bananas

MechanicalJester ,

The stellar jays are dumb, but have learned to not be dixks around the other songbirds where I live.

They do a decent red tailed hawk cry imitation that's wild.

MechanicalJester ,

Except Capitol cops it's okay to hate them and celebrate their death or injuries because they are uhm deep state and stuff yes.

MechanicalJester ,

I've never had a lick of problem with the barred owls. The northern spotted owls look rather similar really. They also interbreed.

I hate this owl murdering nonsense.
Why are we funding this?

MechanicalJester ,

We didn't break it.
It's evolution.
The barred owls simply out nest out, compete and out survive the northern spotted owls.

First, it was claimed that the northern spotted owls could only live in Old growth forests, but that was proven to be false. I've personally seen that it was false because they lived near me.

Then they said that the barred owls and the northern spotted owls did not interbreed, and I felt that that was false because I was pretty sure I came across hybrids. That was then proven to be the case too.

It is illogical to conserve one species by making another endangered. Nothing will change that makes the northern spotted owls better at breeding and surviving than The Barred owls that are similar in size, shape and even coloration.

MechanicalJester ,

Guys I tell you what I don't see what the fuss was I totally looked right at the eclipse and I am fine...

Because it was very cloudy and dark.
And then the eclipse happened and it was still dark.

MechanicalJester ,

Moderate? He brags about overturning Roe V Wade constantly!

MechanicalJester ,

Moore's law predicts that compared to 1980, computers in 2040 would be a BILLION times faster.

Also that compared to 1994 computers, the ones rolling out now are a MILLION times faster.

A cheap Raspberry PI would easily be able to handle the computational workload of a room full of equipment in 1984.

What would have taken a million years to calculate in 1984 would theoretically take 131 hours today and 29 seconds in 2044...

MechanicalJester ,

Yes yes single threaded execution etc but now we just build a crap ton more and keep increasing the computational throughput per watt etc.

We've moved massive calculations into GPUs and thus in terms computational capabilities it holds up.

I mean check this out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLOPS

The geometric growth is real. Moore's law was just one way to explain it.

MechanicalJester ,

If your dome light isn't an LED, then you should replace it with one. It won't completely fix your problem but it will give you 9 to 10 times longer to catch it.

There's really no reason that every car doesn't have a voltage cut off to protect the battery such that it can still start. Additionally, if they just included a super capacitor then even with a heavily discharged battery, it could charge up the super capacitor to then start the car.

But if we went around doing smart stuff like that then we could potentially wreck the entire lead acid battery industry and that would just be awful...

MechanicalJester ,

No, also the massive SO2 that Mt Pinatubo put into the atmosphere slowly went away. And the CFCs.

Pinatubo created more sulfur emissions during its eruption than 10 years of all human coal burning.

And also on top of that we were also wrecking the Ozone.

Nature can always make our mistakes much much worse.

MechanicalJester ,

Well historically...kinda. Honiused to be Spring harvested because what was left the colony didn't need to survive winter. Now we take more and feed them sugar or corn syrup Which is awful.

MechanicalJester ,

I truly believe it is plausible because I worked somewhere that tried crap like that frequently.

Someone posted a scathing review on Glassdoor and one of the owners responded by threatening to kill himself if they didn't take the post down. Not, like in an email, no as a post. And gave his name and phone number.

Trump-allied election groups burned through millions with no evidence of widespread fraud ( www.cnbc.com )

Another problem that doomed some of the groups was their failure to secure any fundraising help from Trump, the de facto leader of the Republican Party, who remains the chief promoter of false claims of widespread voter fraud in the United States.

MechanicalJester ,

Wait they're wasting money ineffectively?
Wonderful

MechanicalJester ,

Ha Ha nice try but you're not tricking ME into admitting that I played Tradewars 2000 using that thing!

MechanicalJester ,

Warm new sponges get me so wet but not in a weird way I just fuck em

MechanicalJester ,

I recently saw it reported that Crypto was 2% of US electric use.

That's a whole lot of wasted processing, silicon, heat and energy.

MechanicalJester ,

glad to see the art of sarcastic ad hominem is alive and well

Do you often hear the ringing of switching power supplies and devices when you are in a quiet space?

I'm curious, how many people are aware of these sounds. I have designed, etched, and built my own switching power supplies along with winding my own transformers. I am aware of the source of the noise. So, does anyone else hear these high frequency sounds regularly?

MechanicalJester ,

Not anymore.Age.

When I was a kid I hated going to the city art museum because all the humidity and temperature control devices emitted this awful high frequency noise that made me nauseated.

I can't hear the "mosquito" pitch noise emitters used to deter teenage loitering in some cities anymore. I kept that longer than I thought I would.

MechanicalJester ,

Most dogs don't make it past 15 so that would be huge.

MechanicalJester ,

Whoa whoa whoa no e of that fancy new age Roman hippie crap.

It's XXVIIII per c, LVII per c, XIIII per c
None of that SuBtRaCt stuff thpppppt

MechanicalJester ,

We had carpeted stairs down to the basement.
We would tuck our pants into our socks and butt slide down it.later we would land into a beanbag chair. Then we just started jumping into the beanbag chair. Tended to ruin those chairs pretty quickly, but we had fun and stayed out of Mom's hair so...

Chicago banned unannounced migrant drop-offs. Now this Texas charter bus company is suing over the restrictions ( www.cnn.com )

A charter bus company hired by the state of Texas to transport migrants to Chicago is trying to flip the script on the border crisis in a federal lawsuit against the city alleging that its ordinance banning unannounced migrant drop-offs is unconstitutional and punishes transportation companies working with Texas, court documents...

MechanicalJester ,

You're late for your bus to Disney!

Bus dumps you in Dallas

Gonna cry?

MechanicalJester ,

Yep you can definitely build lots of skyscrapers, then just demolish them without any financial repercussion.

MechanicalJester ,

I hope you're respected in similar fashion some day and it hurts.

MechanicalJester ,

Mocking SpecOps who are KIA is something generally off limits for me.
I handed over a hundred of our flags to surviving family so I'm humor dysfunctional in that area.
However... jokes? Okay that's kinda funny. Best if served from combat vets I think.
I regret making a fuss. Dysfunctional.

MechanicalJester ,

"The official said crew on the dhow, which did not have a country flag, were planning to transfer the missile parts, including warheads and engines, to another boat off the coast of Somalia."

Looks like "Finding Out" to me.

The gallows humor is real. Coping mechanisms for traumatic jobs is real. Ever hear civilian firefighters joke around? Same. Military firefighters and combat medics probably have the darkest humor.
We've all collectively decided we want people to be really good at killing people and blowing shit up so other people don't kill out people and blow our shit up.

Texas blocks federal border agents from processing migrants in Eagle Pass public park ( www.cbsnews.com )

Texas state officials this week abruptly blocked federal U.S. Border Patrol agents from entering and patrolling a public area in the border town of Eagle Pass where they typically first encounter migrants who cross the Rio Grande illegally, two U.S. officials told CBS News on Thursday....

MechanicalJester ,

I mean, yeah, fuck billionaires, but if you can prove plagiarism then prove it.

A fraud is a fraud

MechanicalJester ,

I mean...the US Navy is roughly 40 times more capable than the Chinese navy just looking at aircraft carriers compared, nevermind the carrier group components or the planes.
A US super carrier is so much more capable than the 2 Chinese carriers combined.

MechanicalJester ,

Okay, but it's not just size and strength. Women have better color discrimination, better landmark sense. Men have better time/speed sense. While pregnant the long gestational period makes the woman more at risk.

Women certainly can hunt, men can certainly harvest berries, but these other traits came about for reasons. If we were wrong as to why, that doesn't change the differences.

MechanicalJester ,

This can be misleading.
For instance: raising dairy cattle in lush and water rich areas with no or limited dependency on fossil water is very different than dairy cattle being raised in the desert with 90% of the food being trucked in and the cheese also being made in the desert using extremely limited fresh water.

Beef is certainly super high impact, generally but how we go about it super matters.
