We are relitigating everything that’s happened to empower women since Woodrow Wilson became president. I hope young people who take issue with Biden’s age and/or foreign policy understand what sitting out any election -most especially this November -means.

@GottaLaff people forget NY is a large mostly rural state. There are huge swaths of GOP counties and they have a lot of say in state politics. It’s really more purple than blue overall. But the downstate city voters have more weight due to sheer numbers. Laws like this are no surprise to those who live here.

Richard Blumenthal have intro’d legislation to enforce the Constitution's explicit language banning foreign by prohibiting the President, VP, Cabinet officials and Members of Congress from accepting payments from foreign governments without first obtaining the consent of Congress.

Officials would be prohibited from accepting foreign payments without Congressional approval during the entire time in office and for two years after leaving.

The remedy for this is not quick, and not easy.
Until their terms are up nothing will change. That’s the wrong focus ( but a huge source of grief and frustration) so let’s lift up our eyes, see the road ahead and vow never to let this happen again.

That road starts in November and does not end until the Robert’s court is no longer. Democrats must get our help ( not just telling them to fix it ) and we need to have the House, Senate and Presidency to create it.

    Trump's a lying coward. He didn't break the today that I know of. He made a point of avoiding it, in fact... so far.

    If he were really willing to be a martyr, he would have made sure he was in jail by now by bashing the jury. He's doing this to rile up his base, but he does NOT want to be in jail.

    @GottaLaff @atrupar all they really need to do is take away his phone for the duration, but I don’t think that directive is allowed by statute/ law.

    He is reliably bad at resisting bait when bait is thrown and it will be. He will be contained for about three days, then his compulsion will be too much to resist and he’ll be incarcerated by this time next week.

    "Chain migration" is the BEST kind of immigration. You want people who move to you country to have a local network and support. You want new immigrants to bring their family, and the economic activity they generate and the value they add to communities to be in YOUR country.

    I can't believe we let them use it like a slur. It's good and do it more.

    What? They brought their elderly parents? That's good for US and for them (the new American we want to be successful and happy.) RIGHT?

    @futurebird they don’t come here to take anyone’s job. They come here to create opportunities of their own. Business ownership rather sole proprietor or llc/inc are a HUGE part of why immigrants come here. It’s what so many of them dream about, the opportunity to self determine their future.
    They also love to be active in their communities. They understand democracy better than most Americans because they lived without it for most of their lives before coming here.

    This feels like a refinement of the cases and charges, not an alarming omen of things to come. I’m not confident the prosecution will go back and indict again on the dismissed items. There’s still plenty remaining to get a conviction on the evidence.

    But I can see a lot of anxiety starting to churn from those who believe Trump will get away with everything. Since most of his life he’s been successful at avoiding count ability, I understand the concern.

    @GottaLaff it’s gonna get crazier because he’s trying out options that may stick - not with the courts, but the court of public opinion his followers represent.
    This is so on brand for him, I would be immune to it if I didn’t care what actually happens in Nov. problem is there are too many who don’t care, vote based on sound bites and Fox News reporting. I believe the numbers are favorable to Biden but I also know the media seems to be making a turn back to 2015-16 reporting.

    Friendly reminder that, as someone who lives in NYC, in the South Bronx (represent!) and who works in Manhattan and Brooklyn ... nothing has changed in this city because of immigration. You'd need to send like half a million people here before we'd even notice, and we'd mostly like it?

    @futurebird can attest! Was in the city on Saturday and it was just as it was before the pandemic, except for outdoor seating for dinner in the winter which I find curiously fantastic.
    The city and states need immigrants. They are not a drain, they are a boon to the economy. I wish pro immigration people would get it together and talk about all the benefits the economy gets from them, and about how they make us better people and a better country.
