Woke: from civil right movement, someone who is weary of loyalty to the state and instead examines society/policy/politics himself. - in modern times used as slur against progressive and ecological conscious people by right wing people.

Tankie: Someone who is authoritarian to a degree he sees using the army (tanks) against the own civilian population as a valid and legitimate action.
Sometimes used as slur by people against those measures (or generally highly authoritarian top down approaches of state theory) or as (positive) self reference by people in favor of such measures (or generally highly authoritarian top down approaches of state theory)

Don't know what your problem is defining both.

EDIT: Not to be confused with "I know exactly who a tankie is and who isn't - my definition is 100% correct" or even "there are exact boundaries and conditions to what a tankie is"

Its like "peace", " progressive", "right-wing", different people will give you different definitions, my point is, that there is a concept to which the word refers and different interpretations/ambiguities don't render the term useless simply by existing.

Agree with not liking Stalin is great, but calling that "anarcho-" is just stupid. Anarchos generally believe you can run big nation States in a capitalistic world without any central power comparable to today's nations (not even a democratically controlled one) but instead jump right to the classless society by getting rid of all (or most) institutions and it will just work fine.

Communists/socialists on the other hand believe you need time, practise and fair game rules to form a classless society with enough time, especially in a capitalistic world, where the USA can just invade you, if you have no army and not even a generally recognized government.

Not liking the real life dictator countries, no matter what they call them self's should be a disconnected question from the philosophical one on how to best archive a harmonic world

I was imagining something like this in hexbear or lemmygrad, as people there seemed quite dogmatic at times, but even on Lemmy.ml? Sad to see this, as I had mostly positive interactions there till now

First of all Linux isn't a company, but the name some dude named Linus gave his code he put for free on the internet.

Most modern Linux distros are still not run by companies, that's why they don't force the data collection, ads, ai etc down your throat.

That said: Linux is made from thousands of interlocking programs, scripts, services and libraries, made mostly by some guys or gurls in their free time. So with a lot of stuff you need to fit it to your needs, as granular customization is to troublesome to have working out of the box for every different usecase there could be. So with most stuff you should not be afraid to learn the basics of terminal commands (packet manager, editor, foldermanagment)

Some OS like Ubuntu and manjaro do a lot for you, but if you have weird double monitors, you may need to manually do some stuff.

If you want as much as possible easy install options I would go with manjaro - then you can install everything where users made an AUR (arch user repository) package. Check if they have all programs you want, if not look for alternatives.

If you want a more stable system but with a bit less possibilities, go for Ubuntu, debian, popOS or something like that.

Some things may never run, for example for my music daw(ableton) with low latency and not native support on Linux or andbvive wireless (where there isn't a driver for the PCI card for Linux) I keep a win machine around. Day to day use is on debian on my side

Okay maybe I'm mixing up lemmygrad and hexbear in my head a little bit to much, but alone the "we are very nuanced abut realsocialism, what you mean are just insincere memes, don't take them seriously" doesn't fit with the "we always argue in good faith, we are just sometimes not that polite" another hedbear user stated in this thread.

I think for people being tankies you could just dismiss the dumb comments as jokes, as you see quite few of them. When being actually wholeheartedly of the opinion that Stalins way of running a country is bad for not only minorities but everyone else and also inhumane, you get a lot of hate.

Sure you can say all the hate are jokes, all constructive discussion is for real, but that's making it to easy in my opinion.

The only discussions I head with hexbear people that were productive were the ones where they where on a different instance than their own, and arguing against multiple people, they sometimes made good arguments, but as soon as there where lots of them you would just get buzzwords and name calling along with down voting ton oblivion.

As for the "we are a colorful left scene", I kinda doubt that... Every time even I mentioned people like horkheimer or ardorno or said that the world isn't automatically a paradise as soon as someone gets president who calls himself socialist, I got called liberal and right wing and so on.

Nice map, but crazy how few (IMHO) good one are also the most famous.

There is so much good metal from Germany, but of course ramm- we hate women and love violence fkin -stein (who isnt even metal but "deutsche härte" and plays with nationalist pictures) is most famous.

List of ones I (personally) like:

Parkway drive, jinjer, the hu, bloodywood

Also respect for the ancients (metallica, etc.) just not my personal taste.

I understand firefox is free software and greatly customisable. I think forks like LibreWolf are fantastic. But I believe the FOSS community needs to be more critical of mozilla. They haven't been the sharpest tool in the drawer for a while......

For real though - its a chromium, those are there as long as google let's them (still provides the source code for the newest version). There are obvious concerns regarding manifest v3 and the possibility (being discussed/implemented right now) to remove of adblockers, tracking blockers etc. In the matter of one update - the company deciding to roll out the update being the same making most money from advertising with google AdSense.

Also they build a monopoly and will slowly transform it I to a cash cow once all competition is whipped (same what is happening with YouTube at the moment).

For real though, repressing minorities is a tool which at the moment capitalists use to get days of unemployed, wage slaves or to split the working class. By fighting the capitalists you can help minorities, but you dont nessescarily do so.

It's important to remember, that discrimination predates capitalism and won't automatically perish by fighting the class war but by fighting it in solidarity and activley addressing all kinds of unfair and unethical behaviour together.

If you make that face when a women talks about being denied an abortion or a subaltern not able to participate in discourse, you haven't understood solidarity and won't get very far.

Yes the wording of this post is needlessly demanding, but people here blaming the disabled for a world that disables them need to think about their life choices.

You don't tell a guy in a wheelchair to "just get legs" when he stands before a stair without ramp, you tell the guy who build the stairs to build a ramp.

Equally you don't tell someone with impaired vision to "just host their own instance" you tell the guy who implemented the captcha to include an audio captcha.

Sure it should be done niceley and understanding from both sites, sure both should work on the solution, sure sometimes it isn't possible to include everyone. But if someone would be to blame, its the ones excluding, not the ones excluded.
