It is without hyperbole that I say the world is terrified of another Trump term.

Resistance to a New Trump Term Has Already Started
New York Times: “Opponents of Donald Trump are drafting potential lawsuits in case he is elected in November and carries out mass deportations, as he has vowed. One group has hired a new auditor to withstand any attempt by a second Trump administration to unleash the Internal Revenue Service against them. Democratic-run state governments are even stockpiling abortion medication.”

I would also add that when considering a candidate it's important to consider those people with whom the candidate is surrounding him or herself. We should not consider the “president-as-king” angle that is promoted by those pushing for the unitary executive theory of the presidency. Do those cabinet members have a credible claim to truly add value to the roles for which they were hired?

Indeed, airlines are the cradle of junk-fees, the business that figured out how to extract 100 percent margins on "extras" that don't cost them anything to provide, like seat selection. The Big Four airlines pull down $8.3 billion/year on junk-fees, and it's all thanks to one fella: Jay Sorensen, founder of Ideaworkscompany, a consultancy that teaches airlines how to rip us off. - @pluralistic

@rberger @pluralistic For those who don’t want to pay for seat selection, the latest seems to be purposely putting passengers “randomly” into the middle. 9/10 times that’s my default seat even if I’m registering way in advance and there are dozens of empty aisle and window seats.

What if instead of polling, Does Trump's felony conviction make you more or less likely to vote for him?" instead poll, "Does GOP's wholesale attack on rule of law make you more or less likely to vote for it?"

"Does fact Trump found guilty of defrauding university students, charity donors, banks, and NY state make you more or less likely to vote for him?"

"Does fact Trump pardoned Steve Bannon for defrauding his own supporters make you more or less likely to vote for him?"

@GottaLaff
Despite DNA evidence proving their innocence, does Trump's insistence on the death penalty for the Central Park Five make you more or less likely to vote for him?

Does the fact the 24 of Trump’s picks for the presidential cabinet and other top advisors have spoken out against him make you more or less likely to vote for him?

Does the fact that 8 of Trump's hand-picked advisors have been sentenced to jail make you more or less likely to vote for him?

There’s a LOT of material!

LOL. The weather will get even worse!

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) “has cut short a disastrous book tour after receiving withering criticism for her story of shooting an ill-behaved puppy and unverified claims of meeting North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un,” RealClearPolitics reports.

“Noem sat for a series of in-person interviews in New York and was scheduled to travel later in the week to Washington, D.C., before canceling the tour, citing inclement weather.”

@DemocracyMattersALot She also claimed she had a meeting scheduled with French President Macron, and then canceled it because she didn’t like what he said about the Israel-Hamas war. Macron’s office said they had no record of having a meeting.

It’s not just that she lied, it’s that she is so tone deaf and ignorant as to not even conceive that basic facts about world leaders can be checked. And that she has surrounded herself with a press team made up of idiots.

Wow!!

How many young voters, do you think will vote Republican after being reminded what they stand for with this ad?

@randahl I hope this ad works but I fear that for many it might be viewed as shrill, left-wing doomsaying. Many might not take it seriously. I think real testimonials that are happening already are more powerful. This, just one of many already, comes to mind. I don’t want to rely on the benevolent, unaccountable billionaire. They can never be voted out of office. Imagine if Bill Gates, arguably spending these last decades much of his $$ to improve the world had been Trump or Musk?

    Plus, research shows a disproportionate number of corporate leaders are sociopaths or psychopaths. People with psychopathy crave power and dominant positions. I don’t want them making decisions to change the world.

    Researchers estimate that if the top 1% of Americans paid the full amount of taxes they owed, it would raise $175 billion a year.

    That’s just UNPAID taxes. Not new or higher taxes.

    How about we make them pay their fair share and use the money to invest in the American people?

    ForeverExpat ,
    @ForeverExpat@mastodon.world avatar

    @rbreich
    Don’t frame taxes is terms of % (ie “if a secretary pays 25% then a billionaire should pay the same). Instead, mega rich “consume” govt programs that secretaries & plumbers never will. Billionaires rely more on the justice system to enforce contracts, police to keep safe their businesses and the distribution system, highways for shipping goods, the education system for productive workers, US foreign policy and navy to keep open supply lanes & markets, etc. 99.999% of us don’t.

    Funny how wealthy Americans will readily accuse Biden of “buying votes” with student debt forgiveness but had no issue with Trump signing massive tax cuts for themselves.

    ForeverExpat ,
    @ForeverExpat@mastodon.world avatar

    @rbreich
    These complaints are disingenuous. Recall that Biden the candidate was very clear about student debt relief as part of his platform. If he’s buying votes it was 5 years in the making. Also recall that Trump even robo signed stimulus checks that he begrudgingly agreed to.

    No shots hit him. So layers of incompetence cancel each other out a little here.

    @futurebird No one mentions that, among the flurry of bullets at the car, some may have missed. Funny thing about bullets, they tend to keep going until the hit something or someone. This is a residential neighborhood. Complete and utter recklessness. How can this be standard procedure: a barrage of bullets from 25 yards without any pause to assess the situation?

    @TexasObserver And let's watch the workforce participation rates drop as women are unable to afford day care so drop out of the workforce. With unemployment <4%, who will fill those roles as Texas brutally suppresses immigration? And watch for longer term issues, in States that cut safety net protections, as desperate people commit desperate acts to ensure their children are fed.

    The "party of fiscal responsibility" is creating an economic time bomb.
