Can us standing on the outside of the the pool piss into it?

Law enforcement in the U.S. in its current form is a gang. The key points here are lack of accountability, lack of oversight, and a lot of unjust laws. The latter may not be their fault per se, but it is still a factor that needs to be corrected.

It was instilled in me from a very early age that cops are not your friends.

EndlessNightmare ,

I don't think I've seen one at the top..

I'd say bottom because I'd rather not have the cord coming towards me, rather than away, when I'm using the phone. Also it seems more ergonomic for me to put my phone in my pocket with the top pointed down rather than up.

US says Israel has not violated international law during Gaza war ( www.aljazeera.com )

After Israel killed seven aid workers in Gaza, the US says it has not found any incidents of Israel violating international humanitarian law in the past six months. An Al Jazeera probe concluded the World Central Kitchen vehicles were deliberately hit.

EndlessNightmare ,

US is an accomplice, so of course they can't admit to Israel violating international law.

EndlessNightmare ,

Getting called out for it was unintentional.

War crimes and genocide. They are a terrorist state.

Alternatively: murder

We need to start using U.S. troops to make these food deliveries. These types of "mistakes" would stop immediately.

It's all over the board. Most don't melt, in my experience. Some become crispy.

The resistance to allowing WFH really shows how bullshit the push for EVs "to help the environment" is.

I'm not anti-EV and do believe they are better than ICE. But even better than an EV-driven mile is a mile that isn't driven at all.

I frequently use Jitsi w/screensharing. Been using it for quite a while this way with good results.

I am a big fan of Matrix and glad to see it getting some attention in this post. But it is definitely a bit rougher around the edges and esoteric compared to Discord. For more technically-inclined people, it's fine. But it's a bit much for some people.

I'm no fan of Apple (and don't want to divert discussion here), but part of their winning formula is ease of use.

EndlessNightmare ,

One of the interesting features about Matrix is that it supports some degree of interoperability. The Beeper phone app, for all the fuss about its ill-fated attempts to bridge to iMessage, can connect to Discord for basic no-frills text chat.

I refuse to install Discord on my phone but use Beeper for DMs and group texting.

Will using the browser version with the usual array of ad-blocks help?

Mid-sized stand-alone city. Think 50-200K people.

If I explicitly have to choose between big city or small town, then it comes down to employment options. If that is a non-factor (e.g. remote work) then small town.

For those saying culture or whatever, I'm ok with commuting to a big city once a month or whatever for that stuff. I don't need cultural attractions for my day-to-day life.

EndlessNightmare ,

A lot of big state university towns that are not part of major metros probably fit this. They are going to have a lot of amenities due to the university.

An obvious chipping away at old reddit. They are trying to get rid of it altogether.

I consider their new format to be unusable.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! ( pawb.social )

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

EndlessNightmare ,

Indeed, you've spelled it out plainly: there is no vote option to end the U.S. funding of Israel's genocide in Gaza.

I can either make a vote that won't end it, or I can make a vote that won't end it (and may actually make it worse, as you alluded) and will also lead to significant negative consequences for many groups of people here.

If there’s a single bone in your body that cares about the lives of your trans friends you will too.

Not just trans, but homosexual, non-white, non-religious, women.

EndlessNightmare ,

As I see it, the genocide is not up for a vote since neither candidate will stop it. It's the other issues that are up for vote.

They've decided to do genocide regardless of what the voters want.

From the article:

The answer was pollution. Counties that experienced the biggest job losses in the Great Recession, the economists found, also saw the largest declines in air pollution, as measured by levels of the fine particulate matter PM2.5.

Seems like a good case to promote work from home. WFH is such a win on so many fronts, yet there's been a big push to get people back in offices. We are in the bad place.

Hybrids do involve extra parts, but the wear/tear is split across the drivetrains to an extent.

Think if you have a set of regular "all season" tires and a set of winter tires. You have twice as many tires but the wear is split across the sets.

Of course you aren't splitting it to that degree, but you aren't just wearing 2x the parts either. In particularly, the Toyota hybrid system at least has been proven to be highly reliable. Part of this is the highly reliable transmission (eCVT) they use and some other parts (like the traditional starter motor) that aren't needed.

This article explains it a little: https://inhabitat.com/hybrids-are-more-reliable-than-gas-cars-in-recent-report/

Good charts comparing why the "just world fallacy" is indeed a fallacy.
