The largest veteran housing development in the U.S. broke ground Friday in West Los Angeles, a project dedicated to providing more homes and services for former military service members throughout the region.

More than $1 billion is committed to the project. Advocates said they hope to have the 1,200 units built by the year 2030. #

@lunastation I still read the text messages from my dead sister. Her Facebook comments still pop up on my page. I can still go to her Instagram page and remember the beautiful and artistic person she was. I do have a few letters and cards, but I don't read those nearly as often.

From 1978 to 2022, CEO pay grew by 1,209% while the typical worker's pay rose just 15%.

This explosion in CEO pay relative to the pay of average workers isn’t because CEOs have become so much more valuable than before.

They've just gamed the system to line their pockets.

@rbreich I worked for a company where the newly hired CEO took away the employee's 401k match. A year later he left with a $1 million payout. He literally pocketed the employee's 401k match to the dollar.

This is Mike Johnson, smiling as he hands out medals to women who worked in factories during World War 2, building the military equipment which was used in Europe to fight the fascist dictator Adolf Hitler.

That is right… The very same Mike Johnson who is deliberately preventing the delivery of military equipment to Europe which should be used to fight the fascist dictator Vladimir Putin.

600 civilians were killed in Russian missile strikes across Ukraine in March alone.

Walmart hiked prices on its Great Value food brands.

The result? Its net income spiked 93% to $10.5 billion towards the end of 2023.

Walmart rewarded shareholders with $5.9 billion in buybacks and dividends.

When I say price gouging is driving inflation, this is what I mean.

@wdlindsy Aligning themselves with the movement was the beginning of the end for the GOP. The "young guns" never really understood the forces that they helped unleash. Trumpism accelerated the right wing extremism and the white that is prominent now. This will not stop when Trump is forced out.

We live in a changed world.

This is not the same climate and environment your ancestors lived in. This is not even the climate and environment YOU were born into. It is a completely different and increasingly dangerous place, thanks to the destructive actions of capitalist commerce and industry.

Worse yet, we live in an actively changing world. Nothing is stable. And perhaps the best indication of that is a single word.

Permafrost.

What does that word mean? Here's how National Geographic defines it: "Permafrost is a permanently frozen layer below Earth’s surface."

Or, anyway, that's what it used to mean. Because now, in 2024, the arctic permafrost is melting. It is no longer permanent...

"As global temperatures increase, this permanently frozen ground could give way to create new rivers and expand existing ones, which would release huge quantities of carbon into the atmosphere, potentially resulting in a devastating feedback loop, scientists have said."

@breadandcircuses By the end of this century, according to work by Walter Anthony and colleagues, up to one million square kilometres of new, abrupt-thaw thermokarst lake areas are expected to form in the Arctic alone. Thanks to the speed of thawing and the morphology of these new lakes, the release of gases is happening at an unprecedented scale.
