The “you tell me who’s winning” pretty much shows that that’s what they’re doing though…

I wouldn’t call it a homophobic trope, there’s a lot of truth to it. Closeted gay men in these hardcore homophobic communities tend to have massive self loathing issues, and take it out on everyone else.

Either Mind Control, like Killgrave’s in Jessica Jones, or if I can cheat a little, Legion’s powers in Legion on FX. He sort of has multiple but they can all basically be chalked up to “mind powers” if we’re being loose with it.

For the record I’m not saying I want to be like Killgrave, he’s a disgusting small monster, but… his abilities are insane. Hard to resist something like that.

As for Legion’s, I mean I’d effectively be a god. Hard to pass that up, tho maybe not if it comes bundled with the schizophrenia.

Yup, walking everywhere when I briefly lived in Europe was huge for me, both for my physical and mental health.

My dad did the same with keylime pie. Like literally he had a serious Chef try it and the guy said it was the best he’s ever had.

The issue? My dad’s a binge eater and couldn’t stop himself from making it constantly. I have the same problem so I’ve actively avoided learning the recipe.

I’d also throw in Justified, and Fallout. Neither is too challenging and are good shows to just enjoy.

If you’re looking for something a bit more intense you could go for Chernobyl, The Last of Us, The Boys, or House of the Dragon. I’d also recommend Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul if you missed either of those.

Some more fun defaults I go to are It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, South Park (I’d recommend starting with Season 4 if you’ve never watched it), Moral Orel, and Futurama.

I’d also recommend Legion and Wilfred if you’re looking for something a little weirder and more challenging.

“I’ve never experienced it so you must just be imagining it” pretty much describes the conflict of every issue out there, from race to mental illness. Hell, even things like homelessness.

So like… how do you think through ideas? Philosophize? You don’t bounce ideas around in your head and deeply weigh multiple options? It’s just… empty?

CaptainEffort ,
@CaptainEffort@sh.itjust.works avatar

I mean that’s the same as anyone. When people talk about their inner voice, the voice is still them. They’re in control of what it says. It can get a little out of hand sometimes (like getting a song stuck in your head) but ultimately it’s you doing it.

Same with being able to “leap ahead” faster than the spoken word. Like, if someone gets a knife pulled on them they don’t have to think “I will run now”, they simply run. The internal monologue is an addition, not a replacement, if that makes sense.

CaptainEffort ,
@CaptainEffort@sh.itjust.works avatar

Like I pointed out in the mugging example, it’s entirely optional. It can just get out of hand sometimes lol.

I say that as someone with an extremely active internal monologue.

CaptainEffort ,
@CaptainEffort@sh.itjust.works avatar

Mine never does unless I actively focus on it, like through meditation. But it’s still me lol, the alternative is what’s called schizophrenia.

Teen titans might be the best answer, that’s a good call. Spectacular Spider-man would be mine though.

'Horrific' violence at UCLA after counter-protesters attack pro-Palestinian camp ( www.bbc.com )

Violence erupted at the University of California, Los Angeles after pro-Israeli counter-demonstrators attacked a pro-Palestinian campus encampment. Bubbling tensions on the campus boiled over following the alleged breach of a "buffer zone" between the rival groups.

CaptainEffort ,
@CaptainEffort@sh.itjust.works avatar

"Law enforcement simply stood at the edge of the lawn and refused to budge as we screamed for their help," UC Divest at LA, a group involved in the encampment, said in a statement.

Fucking disgusting

CaptainEffort ,

In Windows 11 it saves every text file you open as a new tab, so every time you open a text file you’ll have tabs upon tabs of every previous text file you ever opened.

Here’s a Reddit post with some people talking about how to disable it, how frustrating it is, and even how it’s causing problems by straight up opening the wrong file if it’s named the same as a text file you’ve opened in the past.

Instagram Advertises Nonconsensual AI Nude Apps ( www.404media.co )

Instagram is profiting from several ads that invite people to create nonconsensual nude images with AI image generation apps, once again showing that some of the most harmful applications of AI tools are not hidden on the dark corners of the internet, but are actively promoted to users by social media companies unable or...

Donating plasma and blood are different, yeah. My dad would donate plasma and was given a card that would be added to every time he went. I want to say it was like $50 each time, but you weren’t allowed to go too often.

    iPhone users aren’t a species, they’re human beings that don’t have to be iPhone users. Thanks to competition they are free to choose from a wide variety of other competitors.

    This is the equivalent of saying that Walmart has a monopoly because Walmart customers are being forced to purchase items from within Walmart. That because Target isn’t allowed to set up a stall in Walmart, it’s a monopoly.

    US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones ( www.theverge.com )

    The US Department of Justice and 16 state and district attorneys general accused Apple of operating an illegal monopoly in the smartphone market in a new antitrust lawsuit. The DOJ and states are accusing Apple of driving up prices for consumers and developers at the expense of making users more reliant on its iPhones.

    green bubble and how their parents won’t get them an iPhone.

    Tbh I agree with a lot of what you’re saying, but this take is embarrassing and doesn’t even make sense in the modern day. You realize plenty of Androids are the same price, if not more expensive, than iPhones right? What year do you think it is?

    Damn, this is a good idea! I used to lean mine against the wall but one day it slipped and ended up shattering (was 99% glass, whoops). Since then I’ve got one flat on the floor but it’s a little in the way, so something like this would be great!

    In the US at least, sadly, it’s imessage. It’s a weird social thing - if you have “green bubbles” people really look down on you.

    It’s dumb and superficial, but it works.

    There are varying degrees of lethality. Some things kill nearly 100% of the time, while others kill less frequently.

    Getting stabbed isn’t guaranteed to be lethal, but that doesn’t mean that knives are “less than lethal”. They’re still lethal.

    CaptainEffort ,
    @CaptainEffort@sh.itjust.works avatar

    So either way the “human scale” idea is fucking dumb

    You'll never know what it's like to enjoy a sunny summer day, not a cloud in the sky, with a high of 82. Unlucky.

    God damn man this is embarrassing, and I say that as a Fahrenheit using American.

    You realize the only reason that 82 sounds like that is because you grew up with it, right? That to someone using Celsius, 28 degrees sounds exactly the same in their head? We’re not the only ones who get to experience the feeling “of 82”, others do too, they just call it something different. This isn’t complicated stuff.

    I swear the only explanation is narcissism. Just an complete inability to empathize and understand other people’s worldviews.
